@@staceyt1366 most grad school want people with a GPA above 3.0. What grad school accepts you with a GPA of 2.5?
@staceyt1366
@staceyt1366 4 жыл бұрын
@Jew 3.0 is a standard, but most schools will accept a lower overall gpa. 2.5 or higher means you graduated. Many schools are liberal arts so there are non major course requirements. Many schools will look at your core gpa (only courses regarding your major) for grad school. Also, gpa is only one factor for acceptance GRE scores, personal accomplishments, letter of purpose, and even work experience can all be weighed in deciding entry. Of course there are exceptions to this, top schools like the Harvard and Berkeley types are super competitive, so you need top marks all around. Medical school or fields related to medicine are tough too. However, other majors especially at state universities are very flexible. If you are interested in grad school, but have a lower overall gpa, I would reach out to the department and discuss your unique situation. More than likely you’ll find a school that will accept you (and it won’t be that hard). Depending on your major you won’t have to take the GRE either.

My family is in the field so they're tutoring me and getting me prepared for the real stuff and if I get a 2.0 GPA or higher, I can join the university's COOP (internship program) which basically lets me get internships in more than a 100 companies and in different countries as well. I am a good programmer, BUT i'm a bad student lol, physics, calculus, I'm doing terrible but as a programmer, I'm blessed. YOUR GPA DOES NOT DEFINE YOU, PERIOD. ESPECIALLY IN SOFTWARE ENG SINCE WE HAVE USELESS SUBJECTS LIKE CALC, PHYSICS, AND CHEM WHICH HAVE ZERO EFFECT ON YOUR CAREER (I'm sure at least 75% of software companies don't need that knowledge)

Still don’t quite understand the American choosing your own courses route to a degree. Does everyone end up doing the same core skills or something to average out that graduates at interview have similar skills to be hired for? And that sea kayaking and biology were part of your course is great for being more rounded but kind of weird from the UK as compared. P.s. was the biology valuable or maybe you had an interest in software related to biology as a job? (I know we have hired biology into research and ux positions in the past as value diversification of skill set and research mindset)

I will either go to grad school and work for a think tank or go to law school. I need a high gpa in order to get to top law schools. CS would cause my gpa to be shit. I'm afraid that if I can't graduate with a CS degree that it would ruin my gpa. If I knew I could graduate CS then I'd go ahead and do it. I am an attorney who went back to school for CS. I can tell you from direct experience that getting a CS degree is a lot harder than going to law school. Yes law school is hard, especially since you are overwhelmingly busy, but IT IS ENGLISH, WRITTEN BY HUMANS! The math in CS reminds me why I went to law school in the first place! You are correct that people who want to go to law school are often scared away from STEM undergrad programs due to the worry about GPA, but law school admissions people understand this, so I think they adjust. But don't go to law school. There are too many lawyers and not enough jobs. The chance of being a very successful lawyer who makes a lot of money is about like the chance of getting into the NBA or NFL. If you think about it, about one football player per Division 1 team gets drafted each year, so the percentage of people who were superstars in high school, then stars in college that make it to the big time is miniscule. Lawyering is about like that. You read about people who make millions of dollars per year, but never hear about the million who make $60k/year and are miserable.

@Ezra George no I can't, I have a criminology degree, 2.7 gpa, just heard back today from Drexel University got denied to their graduation certificate, I pleaded with this bitch over the phone she Said the gpa requirement is 3.0. now I might just end up killing myself sometime in the near future.

@@leslieclarkson2291 thanks I don't want to do another bachelor's degree completely that's why I'm so disappointed I'm hoping to still use my bachelor's degree credits and get a graduate certification in computer science, then possibly continue on for a master's if possible after that, but that's what I was planning on doing at Drexel University, now idk I'll have to find somewhere else that would take me in a program like that.
