Thank you so much for sharing. It is admirable to be open enough to share your grades because getting C’s aren’t shameful. College is tough, especially for STEM majors. I hate some creators make videos to complain how hard the program is but they’re constantly getting A+s.

The intro was so relatable. Most of my high school friends made it into famous/ivy universities and I had to “settle” for my state school. I remember thinking that Georgia Tech was going to be my safety when I sent out all my applications, then getting rejected from every one that I applied to besides my state school. It was a really humbling experience, but in the end it kind of worked out since I got a really good scholarship for my state school that let me graduate debt free. Moral of the story, please don’t compare yourself to your friends. Famous/Ivy uni’s are definitely not the end all be all especially if you have to take on massive student debt.

Computer Organization kept me up at night. That class stressed me and kept me up at night. I'm still not good at Boolean Algebra. I got a B-. It might have been due to the fact it was the first COVID-19 semester where we were remote. I went to East Tennessee State University. I'm about to have my M.S., in Data Analytics, from ETSU, as well. Congratulations, BTW. Happy for you!!

I’m currently studying Computer Science at a university in germany and I’m amazed how big the differences in the degrees are. Here we have a Bachelors / Masters system and 95% of courses you take are Comp Sci related. I only go to (in total) 5 psychology lectures since we have to take a really small amount of non-compsci courses. Everything else is compsci (and math).

@tarantelfaser4772
@tarantelfaser4772 8 ай бұрын
@@ahmedhassan7552 in germany it doesn't really matter which uni you study at. The quality is basically the same. If I had to chose my uni again, i would rather look at how the student life is in the city. Here in Chemnitz the student life or nightlife isn't as great as in bigger cities or more student centered cities such as Leipzig, Halle, ... But maybe i just feel this way because of online semesters because of covid and computer science in general (most students are pretty introverted and sitting behind a screen for programming tasks is kinda isolating sometimes) The lectures and knowledge I learn is really great tho! Super interesting :D

@@tarantelfaser4772 Oh i see, Thank you very much for the response. Well CS does kind of swing that way, most students will spend their time behind the screen doing programming haha. Thank you for recording this video. I'm glad that you were able to look back over your experience and realize that you may have needed to focus more in high school. However, don't beat yourself up too much because high school is the time when you are discovering who you are and what you like and want to do. It's never set in stone. I do have one request, though: don't say that you didn't get into a good school because Eastern Michigan is a very good school. It may not have been your top eight or nine choice, but there are people who have it as their number one choice because it is going to give them the education and experience if they want. Also, the ad that came on right after your video played for me was one from Audible. I thought you'd get a kick out of that. Thanks for the information and content!

I'm currently a junior CS student at a university and I can relate to you. It took a year for me to choose what I want to pursue out of high school while my friends went from high school to the university directly. In the middle of my sophomore year, I paused my studies to pursue a completely different job that came as, what I thought at the time, an opportunity, only to learn a couple of years later that I should have never paused my studies and pursue what I really liked to do and not look for the easy way out, the better circumstances etc. I'm now 28 and I am back into my studies and I will never make the same mistake again. I am going to work my ass off to get my degree and live the life that I want, no matter what. By relate to you I mean that I was also behind my friends / started slower etc but still going to make it.

9:15 thats honestly just the reality of anyone first taking a statistics and probability course. Now I dont know if that was your first course or not, but I just believe that statistics and probability is so different from our common way of thinking that it takes everyone a good amount of time to get used to it. I mean questions like "What the odds of rolling two dice that sum to 3, given that you rolled a 2?", seem trivial and easy now, but I vividly remember myself and others struggling to see why thats true. If anyone has the chance to take a class in HS or online, id definitely recommend it because it will make the college class so much more enjoyable grade.

@Sayhyuun
@Sayhyuun Жыл бұрын
aha i could go on and on regarding tips, but I guess for math specifically there's typically two kinds of people. The first kind understand the theory really well and can more or less dissect any problem thrown at them. The second kind have to do tons and tons of practice problems (which is painful) to recognize the patterns and do well on the exams. I'm more of the second kind and I didn't realize it until my last few math courses 😅. I say, if you're doing cs, spend more time focusing on those classes and just focus on getting by in math.

Math and CS double major here, *practice*. That goes for both CS and math. Don't understand how Java works? Look up a tutorial, follow along, but don't stop there. Code something with the knowledge you got. Something original. If you can't think of something, look up coding project ideas and see if you can implement it. Just following a tutorial will give you the tools you need, but you won't know how to use them, that is where independent practice comes in Same for math. Say you don't understand how u-substitution works. Watch a tutorial for one or two integrals, and try it yourself. For calc 1-3, differential equations, and linear algebra there are *plenty* of practice problems online with answers for you to try to make sure you are getting it. Practice makes perfect, practice will make you just as good as the top students Another huge tip: Use office hours! Your professors are there to help you succeed, and they set aside several hours a week to help you do just that. Don't waste those office hours, if you are struggling or have any questions, go to office hours! I didn't do that nearly enough when I first started, but it is the thing that is keeping me sane!

I have never coded anything in my life so it’s a little bit overwhelming to think about however, I am looking forward to the challenge. Thanks for your advice. Not to answer this 11 months later but I can only speak for my experience which was years ago. And comparing Berkeley now to umich years ago may not be comparable. But some courses at Berkeley are harder in some ways but some are easier than any courses I took at Michigan so it depends. I think the grades can be less generous at times and the class sizes are huge. Umich still somehow has smaller class sizes even though the computer science department is big. Michigan hires more people to teach I think. Michigan professors felt more available to me than it seems at Berkeley. I felt like research opertinities were easy to come by but for a long time they favored a few fields and less others. Not a lot of compilers professors or language construction profs. Overall I think the degrees are very similar in quality but Berkeley has always had more variety of courses than Michigan. That has changed a bit in recent years. Berkeley has more money and there is a proximity bias for Berkeley with companies but recruitment from Michigan is really high overall so I would not be concerned.

Also I would like to add that I think michigans stance on how to provide services and evaluate students during the pandemic were far better than Berkeley. And I can tout for michigans disability services. They are far from perfect but in my experience much better than a lot of public universities.
