I have never “upgrade” to Pte property. Have been staying in my fully paid 5 room HDB. Now retired at mid forties, have a million in CPF and almost 4 millions in equities. Living my best life, playing games I missed, learning instruments and most importantly seeing my kids grow up, accompany them and around for them when they need me. I think if i upgrade to landed, i would still be in the rat race.

I don't know how many successful corporate leaders can say they spent time with their aging parents and having ample time with his/ her family to build lasting memories. Absolutely loved this series of interviews with Mr Christopher Tan. Kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for each part to be released. Repeat watching with my husband later. Taking down notes so we won't forget all the key points. We are also Christians raising 2 children in this identity. Aligns so well with our values that we want to instill in our own family. Also went through the same with my ailing mom following her to SGH for medical appointments and all. It spoke to me on a deeper level.. Both my parents are also passed on now but spending all that time with them was something I wanted to do and remember for my lifetime so no regrets there. Thank you both for bringing this content onto the mainstream outlets. Appreciate the time and effort that goes into these episodes. God bless you and your families greatly! Great interview! Great to see amazing minds at all ages. Mr. Chris obviously bring up his children in such way. It is hard to have life clarity in a place in Singapore. We should eliminate hierarchy as much as we can, when there are so many already. Things to divide people based on education, money, profession, family background, race. Look at people’s souls instead of those extrinsic stuff.

What a man of God! Filled with Wisdom and humility like a servant of Christ ! As Christians, we can memorise scripture and quote them to ourselves and others, living it out on there other hand, is not easy. Chris walked the talk and he is so humble and unafraid to share he has struggles too. May there be many more like him who follow Christ wholeheartedly, not just through words and speech but through daily lives that inspires others that it can be done. He has shared this with the other finfluencers, do not turn back and judge others after you have achieved because each of us are given portions to steward. Some are more successful than others but it doesn’t give anyone the right to put another down. So so rare and such wisdom from above ,so so needed in this crazy world today and in current times!

Me and hubby started from HDB then to condo apt then to strata title landed and now to a freehold semi landed. With the right investment and savings, we still travelled with our initial 2 to 4 children all over the world too. Upgrade step by step..when children are independent, then we would most probably downgrade in size. Bottoming is live within your means..I stopped working many years ago.

We should normalize what Chris does. He brings a lot of wisdom. There is freedom in being able to live in HDB and taking public transport and not being pressured to keep up with the Joneses so that one is free to pursue the most fulfilling things in life. Life is too short to be trapped by things if you’re not fulfilled by it.

I downgraded too as it was a rational thing to do was driving an underutilised BMW car previously and I sold it for profits as the COE went up so much and went back to motorcycle. imagine the embarrassment I felt from friends, colleagues, and relatives.

No need to feel embarrassed as long as U are comfortable. We don't have to live under other's expectations
@lidna82Ай бұрын
@@nanayue5388 It's a social stigma in Singapore or in any big Chinese cities especially - it's a face thing. In other major cities like New York or Tokyo, one just want to get from point A to B quickly - what ever vehicle it is nevermind brand.
@DonaldTrumpJr88Ай бұрын
I think many who down graded from condo to HDB may have different thought after having stayed there for a while. There is virtually no wrong when come to staying financially self sufficient. Taking public transport is also something we should not be ashamed of. I drove my own car for almost 33 years until I retired at 70 and resort to using public transport. You may continue if you can afford for whatever reasons best known to yourself. But I know I am now living on my car morgage and maintenance account (if I chose to continue to drive.)

Nice sharing. 👍Thank you.🙏 I understand that for some, living in private property or a condo, owning a (luxury) car might symbolize status, but that’s not the case for everyone. I agree that in Singapore, it's too often that we hear the term "upgrade" or "downgrade". I know it's not right or wrong using those terms, although I just don't really like to use that. People choose their homes for a variety of reasons-investment potential, financial strategy, personal preference, it's also because citizen cannot own two or more HDB units in Singapore, and many more reasons. Some people also choose to use public transportation not because they can’t afford. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable with your choice, regardless of others' perceptions. There's no need to feel embarrassed about where you live as long as it suits your needs and goals.

The best is don't even have to downgrade. Which means, start off with humble life and end with humble life even though one is financially successful in his/her career or business venture. Unfortunately, social medias and some influencers nowadays are propagating very wrong signals & values to our society & younger generations.
@alvinhuang1345Ай бұрын
Ego is definitely at play. And agree that adjustment issues seem to be an issue with Mr Tan. I hope he can adjust over it soon. I used to drive an R8 while my wife drove the family MPV. Due to business challenges in 2019. I sold my R8. I still pay for the MPV, the servicing and petrol. But I never see it as me paying and her using. I grab to office all the time. And recently to clock steps I walk to the MRT and take MRT instead. SG public transport is top notch. I stay in landed and this is all fine. I feel that most of the time it's our own associated self worth of our position (I'm a CEO with 70+ team members) , wealth and standing. If we can let it go, it doesn't matter where we stay, what we drive as long as we can overcome our own mindset.

Chris only mentioned he is a CEO. Which firm n industry, he did not mention. This is an individual choice not we need not necessarily follow him. However, one takeaway advice from him is to remain humble if one has reached his goal of success and not be too critical over others. To remain low key and that’s what I like for myself, at the same time feeling good inside you and be grateful to God for His providence.
@SummerTan-de9xk29 күн бұрын
The BIG problem in SG is this mindset that HDB dwellers are poor and those in pte properties are wealthy! Even in elite schools, the students see n engage in this divide. Not true? SG’s obsession with wealth and elitism and the HDB vs Pte Property division will not be healthy for the population in the longer run. Today, race and religion are not the divisive issue. Authorities and the elites ought to understand the history of nations that face revolution. Parents of pte properties should not create a false superiority mindset in their kids. Education based on only achieving elitism and staying in pte properties as a way of success in life is totally unhealthy.
