@@bas-tn3umRussia, Georgia, Romania and other true Christians are all east of Vienna where Papist Roman Christians held the line for themselves only. Eastern Orthodox Christians who had been attacked much longer and all the front lines held their own lines having both wins and losses just like the Papist. Papist did not somehow preserve Orthodox Christianity, our ancestors did that for themselves. I’m glad that Papist beat the Mohammedans in Vienna for sure, but that had NOTHING to do with the survival of true Christianity even if one is to be charitable and consider Papism to still be related to true Christianity… given that your Pope grovels at the feet of Islamist invaders like the boy raping coward he is or if one is not bring up the simple fact that he brought a Pagan of goddess of the western Hemisphere into St. Peter’s. Call that shit true Christianity? Or Bring up how your Pope is persecuting American Papist just for wanting ‘Mass’ in Latin or destroying Papist Bishops like Strickland for hold basic Papist doctrines? Call that shit real Christian? Yeah-no, kudos for Vienna but neither that specifically nor Papism in general hand anything to do with the survival of corrupted ‘Western’ Christianity let alone the true Church- the Eastern Orthodox Church- that the Papist split from when they embraces heresies such as the Filioque and Papal Infallibility. Jeez, it was even one of your own filth little infallible Popes that persecuted the Templar and yet your still choose to Worship Francis rather than Christ. Sad. You even had you own Muslim Pope in that pussy John Paul II. What a pathetic joke Papism is.

The depth, richness, and reverence for our Lord is unmatched, and I am so thankful the Holy Spirit lead me home to the church. I’m grateful for my Protestant background, because I learned a lot of Bible. It was a great stepping stone for someone coming from the occult and criminal background I came from. Although my experiences with Orthodoxy have been positive, I remain Latin Rite for a number of reasons. Although the LR church has severe problems so too has Orthodoxy albeit different ones. The Latin Rite is my heritage and is worth fighting for. There are doctrinal issues, one being the role of the papacy (authority). I see much good remains in the LR. And finally the most important reason - God has not (so far) called me to Orthodoxy. If I had the sense the Holy Spirit willed it, I would obey.

As a Catholic brother, I am so glad that you are still in the apostolic church by becoming orthodox. I just ask what do you think about the difference in cultural adaptivity and the power of missionary witness that you find in the Western Church as opposed to the Eastern Church. I love my Orthodox family and feel them to be our brothers but I have struggled with the static nature of Orthodox practice and the relative lack of powerful mission work to spread the gospel and care for the oppressed. I know the hold they the true faith-as I nelieve we do in the West-but as an African American I appreciate that our Catholic liturgy can validate through incorporation of my culture's practices in our Christian worship. We have ultra-"traditionalists" who believe that the form of the liturgy is more important than the fiath it should lead to and nourish but they are the fringes. As a Black man our culture's gifts and practices are able to bne expressed in the Catholic Liturgy, in pur language and ethos. St. Paul saidhe was "all things to all people," and he used the particular culture of a people to teach about the truth of the gospel as in the "unknown god" discussion in Acts 17. Is there any possibility of African American tradition in the Orthodox way of worship? This is a genuine question. God bless your journey loved one.

@RedRiverMan the Orthodox Church is “all things to all people”, and most importantly, is the saint maker and the healer of souls. @@RedRiverMan, so, you want God to be like you, not you to be alike God, right? You want The Bible to be changed by your face, shape, form, whatever, not you to get closer and closer to your soul salvation? You want numbers of people, like in politics, or you want faith? Asking myself what Father Pio da Pietrelcina would think about your understanding of Catholic Christianism... he didn't went out for people, the people came to him. Orthodox here; one that can recognize a real, true saint when seeing one and Padre Pio da Pietrelcina is one, very much alike to the Orthodox Saints.

Prayers with you. It's very hard to go against everything that so many people before you in your family taught you. Sadly I don't think the strength of the Church will begin to show itself in North America until tines are so hard that only the Church can give that place of endurance. On my mother's side we were conquered ny Muslims in 1360 and not liberated until 1912. My grandfather was born property of the Caliphate. At no point in those nearly 600 years did we leave the Church. On my father's side it was 1460 to 1821. No wavering. No offense but no western tradition can understand what it means to endure against oppression like that and maintain the same faith going in and coming out. Because no western tradition will be able to endure that. The day will come to America and all those western heresies will fall. Sola Scriptura means nothing when 10 straight generations are never taught to read. But the Grace of God through his Sacraments maintain the Faithful. I pray your wife sees your faith and joins you soon!

Thank you. I am overwhelmed by what you have spoken. I have been seeking with all my heart, wanting the three things you have described. God has spoken to me, a few hours ago about a sin that remains in my life, I will remove it today. After I have prayed repentance and asked forgiveness, I ran across you. Like you, I was raised a protestant. Studied the Bible as protestants do, went to church faithfully as protestants did. Started as a Missouri Synod Lutheran and went through Methodists, Assembly, and ended up a Southern Baptist. Also like you I have wanted more so I have started researching the Church of the Apostles, and thus find no other place than the Orthodox Church. I have been reading the Anti-Nicene Fathers and hope to get to the Desert Fathers next. There is no Orthodox church where I live, there are a hundred Catholic churches as I live in the Philippines. There is one Orthdox Church in Manila, but that is a long was from me in Bohol. I am starving to learn, receive the Sacrament, and participate but as you know, there is only so much you can do yourself. God is moving me closer and I am thankful. Thank you so much for sharing your journey, you help to continue to inspire mine.

I've listen to both Baptist preacher (Charles Lawson) and Father Spyridon for many years on and off. To some degree they have both helped me grow. Even though I went back to sinning something always brings me back to repenting. Even though I have at least one sin I have a tough time with, I've corrected others. I still don't understand some of the bible but I learn and research.

It is sad how protestants ignore the lives of the saints almost completely. There's so much to learn from those who struggled before us.

It is my pleasure to have been - as a white men - a student and a servant of the African church and the Eastern church for many years. I admire the willingness of African Orthodox christians to follow Christ no matter the price they have to pay. There are hundreds of thousands of Christians in Egypt that have to make a living with the most dirty work because they do NOT betray Christ for a better living. Let us keep in mind John 15 verse 20: "Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also." Christian faith is NOT spritual entertainment, but paying the price.

Racial strife has always been a problem in the Church. Race is not abolished by Christianity, but rather, our racial differences are reconciled with each other. I only hope that the reconciliation is true, rather than a cloak for some worldly political agenda. Faith matters more than anything, but still, lesser things such as race do matter, although they matter to a lesser extent than faith.

Had no idea Athanasius of Alexandria was black and "Athanasius is also the first person to identify the same 27 books of the New Testament that are in use today; up until his Easter letter, various similar lists were in use. However, his list was the one that was eventually ratified by a series of synods and came to be universally recognized as the New Testament canon."

Except he wasn't black, he was a North African from Alexandria, likely Greek or Semitic. The "black midget" phrase was likely an insult from Julian the Apostate.
