The alocasia dragon scale had a flower/inflorescence on it. I think all if not, definitely most plants in the araceae family do flower on a inflorescence called spadix. We houseplant enthusiasts just tend to appreciate plants more for their foliage especially aroids

Lovely human being, sometimes your self talk is so mean! I was glad when you said you'd been smart to keep the tags on, because YES! You're smart, you're funny, you're fabulous, and you're also parenting a baby and a toddler! I was so glad to see the blue oil fern - because it looks good, but as I suspected, it doesn't look as neon blue as the pictures online... I would buy one if I build a larger terrarium some time, but it isn't an absolute must-have.

That's a flower on the aroid... but part of it is slightly rotted or maybe even dried out... thus preventing it from opening super successfully on its own, lol. I know that on roses, it's called bud-lock or something?? That is when a tiny amount of moisture, or nighttime dew, gets on the unopened bud, and then dries the bud shut. I'm not an expert but that looks like what I'm seeing. It's almost like the cataphylls on philodendrons, where the new leaves come through a papery sheath; sometimes you have to get them through by hand :-)

In my experience Dragon Scale are a pretty hardy anthurium not requiring a ton of humidity. I was also apprehensive about it but I bought one recently on a trip to florida and brought it back with me to Las Vegas and its doing great! the leaves on that one are thick and leathery so they are tougher than more delicate anthuriums requiring more moisture.
@millefolium93032 жыл бұрын
Definitly go with Three Kings, syngoniums are easy. But the dramaqueen Dragons who drops a leaf every time you water it because you didnt do it perfectly and dies if you dare try to repot it... NO. I will not waste money on it again.

I have heard that decomposing foliage can be bad for surrounding plants. Do your own research because I could be wrong. I think a clean out of dead leaves and a nice dusting will do you terrarium some much good. You know, if you have the time. For a terrarium, what do you feel is easier to situate and work your plants in... a front open or top open enclosure? Thinking of jumping in, but unsure if I want to put the time and effort into a front closure with a living wall type display, or terraform a top opener. Thoughts/opinions please!
@plantwithroos2 жыл бұрын
I think front opening is easier and preferred (I have several of both). I tent go put stuff on things including the terrariums so then any time I want to look inside I have to take everything off 🙄😩 also my top opening one is a aquarium so te top is black instead of glass which I don't like
