Mom had this on an old piano roll. Every time we would mention this song to anybody they would never know what we were talking about. This is the first time I ever found it here on KZbin!

Mmmmmm, wonderful record with excellent resonance. The Wigmore Hall certainly has magnificent acoustics.

To me, this is exactly what live music sounds like in a larger space such as a gym or dance hall. It's the sort of recording that allows me to imagine I'm transported back in time to a 1920's dance hall: I'm dancing with my "cutie" and enjoying music meant for dancing, in a large space also meant for dancing. The key word here, in case you didn't notice, is "dancing"! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful recording with us! :^D 🎺

l know l am in a minority but l just do not like those Hall recordings.A small band just cannot cut it in a cavernous venue. The sound is lost slightly to my ears and it feels a little cold. Ahola made reference to this fact in some journal at the time.A big band like Hylton's might sound better at a big high ceiling venue..But most people do seem to like the echo sound...

Personal taste - that's why record companies offered alternatives. I like the performance, and this is the only form we can hear it regardless of our preference. The Wigmore Hall was designed for small bands: it was Bechstein Hall originally - a piano showroom - and you'd be hard-pressed to get more than a quartet on stage. Personally I'd prefer to hear this live, today, in perfect sound, or the very best modern recording.

Usually, I don't like public hall recordings either as sometimes they're way too echoey , but I do give the Thumbs Up to this one myself. I think it is great !
