I think Power Rod (his new name) banged his shin pretty well on the log and the yellow area is mostly bruising, but it still would pay to run a course of anti-biotics as the Potomac's a dirty river. A good way to track it is to use a sharpie and outline the red area, then compare it 12-24 hours later. If the red spreads outside the line it's getting worse. If it reduces, it's getting better. I hope he has time to relax and recover in New Orleans.

I never fished Potomac much but it always has been a polluted river. There is mills and such to the north and of course DC area. Nuff said. You really got to get up river to find some pristine areas. Hope all is better soon with Dad. I can attest to freaky bad luck fishing too with injuries.

Flesh eating bacteria is naturally occurring, not pollution. I have never heard of it in fresh water though, it's usually in brackish and saltier water.

That's crazy bro, I just let the doctor getting antibiotics from fishing in the gunpowder river. It's the blue green algae, which y'all walked thru plenty of in this video. I got an infection on my foot. Make sure u shower immediately after being in a river this time of year, if the bacteria gets in a cut and isnt cleaned you'll get an infection.

Yup most all the waterways in MD around DC are polluted to a high degree, especially the Potomac, same for the waters in and around NoVa. It's an issue in any urban area around large bodies of water, way too many people and to many of them are nasty polluters. I won't even go in any of those waters anymore, you might as well swim in raw sewage, anywhere in DC itself is exponentially worse. I live on a watershed creek that feeds into the Occoquan River that feeds into the Potomac River below DC and the amount of disgusting trash that flows down is insane. I go west and southwest into rural VA to find cleanish safe water, but you still have to pay attention to random events and fish kills like what happened on the S. Fork Shenandoah awhile back.

I was an ER nurse for over 10 years and have seen cases of “flesh eating bacteria”, this doesn’t look like that. It spreads far faster and he wouldn’t be able to walk, and he’d be in extreme pain. With that being said, if he is concerned, always seek medical care. FYI love your videos. I watch them every weekend with my 10 Month old son.

I'm always aware of vibrio potential during warm months coming out of brackish water around the Chesapeake. I ain't gonna lie, warm-water creek fishing kinda skeeves me out after the last 4 years of almost exclusively fishing cold, clear and "clean"(but not drinkable) mountain water. I took a friend fishing in a warm water creek that flows through the Virginia countryside and he ended up with some type if skin infection and had to take antibiotics.
