Splendid interview! I just read Charlie’s wonderful autobiography again. For years I’ve thought that a Chaplin miniseries would be the only way to capture the full scope of his truly amazing life. The film “Chaplin” was very well done but it just scratched the surface.

When I was a little girl in VN, I always looking forward to watch “ Charlie films” - that was what we called it which were showed on TV once a month. His films were very very popular in VN . Even a farmer that lived a a rural farmland knew about him . I remembered after the movies, us kids sat around and talked about the movie we just watched and asked each other what was each other’s favorite part. When I got to America, I went to the library and watched all his movies again and again in the 80’s. There is no other Charlie Chaplin in our life time. 👏👍❤️

A miniseries would be great. I feel that it could cover topics that the movie "Chaplin" didn't cover such as you grandfather making his films and how much work he put into it, as well as his time in Switzerland and his life there. Robert Downey Jr. needs to definitely reprise the role of your grandfather.

I agree, that would be great. It’s hard to fit his life story into one single movie… thanks for watching 👍

Anytime. I just read that the film Chaplin was actually suppose to be a four hour movie but it got cut down 2 hours.

Great interview Spencer! I am am a huge fan of your grandfather's. I, like Kevin Brownlow, believe him to be the single greatest figure in the history of cinema. For about 2 years I worked just 100 feet from the stage where he shot the Mutuals at the Lone Star Studio. This was very close to the Chaplin Studios where all his great films were made. So I felt connected to Chaplin in this way. Your dad told some great stories. As a fan of Queen, Yes and other bands that have recorded at Mountain Studios, I would love to hear more about that part of his life. I we plan to visit Chaplin's World one day. I can only imagine the anguish involved in making the decision to convert their home into a museum must have been like. A beautiful gesture really. Anyway, I think it would be important for you to interview all your aunts and uncles. Thank you!

Spencer, I enjoy your insights and exploration of Charlie and his life and art. I would have liked to ask your father if there's any truth to the story that Jerry Lewis came to the Chaplin home in Vevey and spent perhaps over a week there, enjoying the company and hospitality of the Chaplin family. This had to have happened in the 60s. Lewis says that he exchanged movies with Chaplin. Lewis gave Chaplin a 35mm print of "The Bellboy," and Chaplin gave Lewis a 35mm print of "Modern Times." Can anyone in your family vouch for that? I just never heard this story recounted in any Chaplin book, and we only know about this from Lewis. Can you verify?

Hi Spencer, thank you for a great interview. But why did you ignore my (hard) question? After all, when a man like your dad gets to a certain age, he wants to live deeply.... (yes, I am quoting Limelight). As someone who was a former carer who can barely walk but still performs professionally, not to mention being a suicide attempt survivor, it’s a film I closely relate to... very... and it restored my will to live... but I digress.. why DID you leave out my question? Hmm? 🤔

When will he take questions again? 1. What was Gloria Swanson like in real life? 2. Why did Chaplin and Mary Pickford stop talking to each other? I had read that they had not spoken or seen each other for eleven years due to vehement "creative differences". 3. What is the truth about the death of Rudy Valentino? It is alleged that he was poisoned by Joseph Schenck. Is that true? If anyone would know the truth about that incident and so many others - it would most assuredly be Chaplin.

On all my research watched Mary was jealous of Charlie in my opinion the relationship he had with Douglas Fairbanks an money he made was more than her she was sweet Lady tho
@Hihoweryew6 ай бұрын
When she passed , Mary was worth $50 million in 1979. Adjusted for today it would be $226.5 million. She did not do too bad. I wonder what their creative differences were.
