Don't tell folks back home in Italy that Chinese urinate on the sidewalks, prostitution is prevalent and cheap, people love dog meats, female teachers punish boys by spanking them naked, elderly people tried to masturbate in the parks with cigarettes in their mouth, etc. These are jaw dropping behavior western media would not report either.

以前中国也有不少小偷，尤其大城市、火车站。我多年前在火车站被偷过，但小偷有点良心--只偷了钱、把我的所有证件放回了我的裤兜里了。 现在随着手机支付和各地的监控系统，小偷几乎失业了。这点中国做得很好。治安也好多了。

yeah your dad is rightly so to be afraid of pickpocket coz of his own experience. If you go to Vietnam be careful your purse would be gone in minutes if it's been exposed. 我疫情前去杭州也對戶外手扶梯印象深刻。台北市只有一個，松山高中旁邊，我還沒搭過，結果第一次用戶外手扶梯是在杭州... 還有就是所有公車不是天然氣就是電動車，沒有汽柴油車。後面沒有難聞的廢氣。
