Going to see Tom in concert on Sunday.... another thing to respect him for, the tickets are $15, he won't sell VIP tickets, he said he'll go to the venue early and stay after to "hang out" with his fans until the last is gone, said he loves to meet and talk to his fans. Much respect !!! Love y'alls reactions and your honest opinions !!! If a song/reaction can open up uncomfortable conversations, we can all learn something, and possibly see something from another persons perspective. Keep up the GREAT reactions !!!!

I love this. Growing up my home town had a population of 691 and there were 0 black folks in this town. My views of black folks came from movies and music. I was scared of black folks to be honest and one day we had to move to a town 10x large that my town and was very diverse. When I went to school I seen so many black people all over and I was so nervous but when I was in class, I was sitted next to 2 black girls, everyone knew I was new and not from there, I was in boots, jeans and a pearl snap button shirt.... I stuck out like a sore thumb lol. They were very nice and the more I opened up and talked to them the more I liked them. We became friends and tried out for the color guard team together and we all made the cut. We then became teammates and sisters. I think back that if I wouldn't have opened up that I would have missed out on knowing some of the best people and not have the wonderful memories we now share together. I hope anyone that thought like I did as a kid will give folks a chance and grow

It also seems like the media pins races against eachother by making it like anybody who has differences is a racist. That just takes attention off of real racism or inequality. Seems like lately too many people just capitalize off of real issues or use them as a excuse. Tom's msg about judging people individually & by what they do themselves & not as a whole is awesome. Everyone should be judged as individuals. And I love how Tom gives credit and appreciatation to his fans. Great reaction.

My only gripe with this track is the same gripe I have with nearly anyone who shines themselves in positive lights - they almost always contextually twist their own philosophies in an attempt to make themselves look more righteous than they probably are. What I mean for this track specifically is the bar at 3:56: "Fast forward to when I'm fucking paid, I didn't spend no dollar on a fucking chain, I get my mom a house I get my dad a car I'll make my sister rich she'll never work again" which obviously sounds good right? Everyone be nodding their heads at that. Yet at 4:30 he says: "And the calm seas don't make a skilled sailor, so I thank the heavens for the stormy weather" which again, people be nodding their heads and shit because hardships make you strong, we all agree. But to me - both of those bars contradict one another. You thank god for the storms that make you strong, so you use your strength to prevent anyone else from experiencing those storms? What's going to make *them* strong then? What's going to keep *them* humble then? What'll happen when they face the storm and you're not there? I understand the desire to take care of your peeps, but at the same time that just makes spoiled peeps with no humility and who will be unprepared when the storm does come (and it will). This kind of shit needs balance. Fire track other than that.

i dig tom cuz hes like "hey not all white people are like that so dont paint me with that brush" i can respect that. my problem when it comes to a lot of whites is that they will acknowledge shit fucked up and in the same breath say "violence isnt the answer" to me that is being complicit. tom said in of his cuts somethin like "all nazis should get fucked up" that means alot to me. i understand many whites dont want to get in it --but dont get in the way. for example im am black and im completely ok with people runnin around wearin the confederate flag. why? because is it idiotic to believe all whites are racist, so it is good that they use such OBSERVABLE MEANS to set themselves apart. black people have to accept that whites arent gonna give up the perks of bein white so it is a waste of time to try to shame them about their lack of tryin to make laws or their enforcement of them equal. however because many blacks have families, i as a single black man cant try to push them to acts of violence or to just quit their jobs. because ill tell you up front im not tryin to pay their bills. its not that i dont think violence wouldnt work, its that real rebellion would have blacks see years of blood and hardship. without roots i can see payin that price but to ask that of those with them would only lead to an distracted army. thankfully while some can only see around the corner i see from above. that is why i know the internet is where blacks can build the foothold for real change. no one gonna read this anyway so im gonna insert this comment i put on a rules to this shit video : so when people say blacks should get their own shit, i encourage them remember the story of black wall street. the story of black wall street taught me that its not that black people cant do it on their own its that they are not allowed to keep it. i firmly believe that is the problem that needs to be addressed. the hip hop culture has more global influence than anything in america except the government. it is that influence that black people must learn to wield if we are to become self subsistent. but in order to wield that influence we must first have the infrastructure to transmit how we want to be seen. black people need to understand that the internet has changed the game. no longer is the white man needed to provide the t.v. stations or the radio stations. that was their leverage. that is how they maintained their control-- by choosing who gets exposure. because the more exposure you have the more people want you to you to do shows for them. the first thing blacks need to do is control the acesss. this could not be done before the internet. whites want us to entertain them . no its more than that--they expect us too. the internet allows us to choose who we entertain. it that ability to exclude those we feel do not respect us as people where the true power lies. when this truth is grasped by blacks as a whole our fortunes will change
