My father was a few years behind the Prog era. He graduated the same year as In the Court of the Crimson King. But he had very little Prog or Prog related material in his collection. He did have Moody Blues albums. Also some Santana. He really loved the live version of Conquistador from Procol Harum and Living in the Past by Jethro Tull. My Prog albums were the albums he liked most that I listened to. So I probably got him into Prog more than he ever got me into it. My Mother is a classical pianist and really liked my classic Genesis albums. I thought Dream Theater would be too heavy for her and she loved it. My cousin introduced me to Prog Metal when I was in high school. I loved Prog and Metal so it was an instant hit for me. My gateway into Prog was not my father’s Moody Blues albums but when I got into Tears for Fears. The best Prog Pop band ever. I really appreciated the complex time signatures, complexity, and creativity. They destroyed most their contemporaries in every category. They made me lose interest in mainstream music entirely. I had to start looking elsewhere. Started to listen to my parents music for a few years. After discovering Prog I ended up abandoning that music also. It’s been over 30 years now since I got into Prog and over 20 since I started becoming obsessed with it. Glad I was able to introduce my parents to it because they liked it more than I liked the music they were listening to.

Seeing the first group of your Dad's albums after having watched the three videos of your collection kind of leaves me speechless, in the keyboard sense. Wow! Don't know that I've ever been in a record store that could rival what you've show to us. You are spoiling us with all this great content. Thanks much, and by the way love the abstract on the wall behind you both.

This video brought tears to my eyes . . . so many albums I used to own before selling my whole collection a couple of decades ago. My biggest regret. :( I look forward to shedding more tears during the next part. Great channel, subbed. I wish you great success Niamh and dad. I'm about the same age as your old man, so it's great to have him to relate to when you show albums of "modern" bands I've never heard of. Oh, and I'm a bass player too, so I can relate to you as well. Win win! :)

Love the collection vid. Referring to one of the Grateful Dead albums, your Dad mentioned Stamford in Connecticut but pretty sure it was probably Stanford in California. I live in Stamford and am quite sure the Dead never played here. Also the album was moving pretty fast but quite sure I spotted a "CA" on the cover which would be California. Also surprised to see no Focus or Gentle Giant. Keep up the good work.

Your dad has some great stuff! "Sweethearts of the Rodeo" and "Gilded Palace of Sin," despite being the furthest thing from prog rock, are two of my favorite albums, too. If your dad loves those albums, I'll bet he would also love (if he hasn't heard them already) Gene Clark's solo albums, like "No Other," "White Light," "Roadmaster" and "Two Sides to Every Story." And haha!--I was wondering (since he had said "West Coast rock" in a previous video) if he would have "It's a Beautiful Day" in his collection, he did not disappoint! :)

Great video! Knew i’d enjoy this! Is the copy of closer by Joy Division an original? As it’s often hard to tell unless the sleeve is aged and a bit musty smelling in which case it’s an original to me! I ask because when doing to recent(ish) reissues warners who own the JD back catalogue got the fine details so precise that even the runout groove messages are the same as the originals!!!!

Waited for Home to appear. Home were a British rock band, active in the early 1970s. The core line up featured Mick Stubbs on lead guitar and lead vocals, Laurie Wisefield on lead guitar and vocals, Cliff Williams on bass guitar and vocals, and Mick Cook on drums. They also had two keyboardists during their existence. From 1971 to 1972 it was Swansea's Clive John (from the Welsh band Man), and the other for the rest of their short career was Jimmy Anderson. They started touring in November when they supported Led Zeppelin at the second Electric Magic Show at the Wembley Empire Pool. From then on, they opened for groups such as Argent, The Jeff Beck Group, and The Faces. In September of the same year, they went into the studio again to record the Home album. The LP reached number 41 in the UK Albums Chart. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_(UK_band)

I'm glad to see that you have a couple of Rory Gallagher albums in there, lol, and Madman Across the Water is Elton John's best album IMHO. Here's a fun fact about someone associated with 2 of your albums. My oldest sister dated Gram Parsons, who was big influence on the Byrd's Sweetheart of the Rodeo album and who was the founder of the Flying Burrito Brothers, back in the mid 1960's. There is still an annual festival held in my hometown of Winter Haven Florida called the Derry Down festival in honor of Gram and the Derry Down club in Winter Haven, where Gram and his first band were the house band, was restored and opened in 2016 as a venue to promote music education for young people. It is very clear that Dad has EXCELLENT taste in music !!! 👏👍✌️

Isn't it amazing how music can preserve memories much better than pictures? It's like everything comes back... the way it actually _felt_ . A few years ago, I made a list for which I chose 1 song for every year of my life with 1 short note attached to it (only 5 or 6 words). I was born 1978, my list started with the year 1984... It was such a fun and satisfying thing to do. :-)

Peter is the cool dad I always wanted 😭. Obviously he has a very marked psychedelic-sixties base but definitely embraces many classic rock staples. Highlights (my personal taste) from this 1st part is Rory Gallagher's Irish Tour '74; Walk on Hot Calls is one of my all time air guitar songs (it's not shredding, I don't know what it is). Jazz is my second love. Any human being with Miles, Coltrane and Bill Evans in their collection, is best friend material.
