Well, the kids knew the forrest their whole life, so it is quite plausible that they would outrun sister krone, who just got there. Also the kids do really struggle, trying not to show their frear. In episode two you can tell, how exhausted the kids are, after talking to the mother and acting like everything is fine. The children know their lifes depend on their lying skills, therefore I personally think that the kids do not seem to much older than they are. Yes, they are quite extraodinary children but still children (and I like that about this series) and I personally think the series makes this quite clear. They are just children
