You're great again, as I always emphasize to my students: 'language never rests'. Now, it is my turn to contribute :): “You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it" (Ethics of Fathers, 2:21). This book is one of the most classic wisdom books in rabbinical literature. I'm not a religious Jew, but there is a lot of good stuff for inspiration and self-motivation. The point of the idiom is simple: do your best, that's my motto in life.

Hi Katherine, my lovely, my fridays' sunlight, my ears' delight, my rose of England ! 🌹😊 Is Tom a musician too? So interesting that he is building a guitar. Reminds me of Brian May who also designed and built his own guitar 'The Red Special' (see wiki if this is of interest to you ;-) with his father; and amazingly as you may know, this is the one that rocked Queen throughout the band's entire career! May I ask if it is an acoustic one or an electric guitar he is making? I'm intrigued and couldn't really figure out about the piece you spoke about. Is it the top saddle (also called nut)? ...Or outright, and more probably I think ,the headstock, I mean the head of the guitar basically that carries the tuning mécanisms (tuning machines)? ... Anyways, I hope you will show us a photo when it is finished; I'm passionate with guitars. I never built one but I would have liked to ! Apart from that, I loved the lesson and all the words you wonderfully chose and presented as I am always curious about British slang. Did you say a fifty pound note you found? Wow, what a fluke ! not bad, you were indeed so jammy !🍀 and I guess it will provide a lil' boost to your wedding even if I know how expensive and almost prohibitive it has become to get married in England these days ... 😲 Many thanks Katherine! 🙏👏👏I hope you will release many other lessons about slang and idioms that I also love. Have a sweet Sunday, See ya next friday. Bisous bisous, love 😘🌹❤☮🕊🎹🎸

~~~~ A wee corner of my brolly ~~~~~ It was pouring on the main road She was walking sans umbrella But I had one, no doubt, borrowed The same morning from a fella So I hurried to her rescue To propose her a lil' refuge; By drying water from her face With a soft air, she told me "yes". Making our way, how sweet it was To hear us both the lovely swash Of the raindrops falling gently Upon the roof of my brelly As at the Flood I would have liked, With no end enjoy the shower To keep her, under my shelter During forty days, forty nights A wee corner of my brelly Against a piece of paradise She had something of an angel A wee corner of paradise Against a piece of a brelly I wasn't losing out at all. But foolishly, even in storms To some country, they go, the roads And soon hers set up a blockade On the skyline of my madness She had to leave, I saw her rush After saying 'thank you so much!' I saw her vanish in raindrops, Leave gayly to my oblivion... A wee corner of my brelly Against a piece of paradise She had something of an angel! A wee corner of paradise Against a piece of a brelly I wasn't losing out for sure! F. 03/15/2024. ☂🌂🌧🌧 💞🌹🧡
