Did anyone else think groom means just making the horses look pretty like combing their hair and washing them. Evan is literally out here feeding, cleaning, walking them etc 😂😂😂😂😂
@EvanTheGroom12 күн бұрын
I like to say I’m a glorified stablehand. I do all the horse chores / barn work (just not any barn maintenance) but also get to clean and tack up the horses!
@claire656812 күн бұрын
@@EvanTheGroomI literally own no horses and don’t even ride them. But since watching your channel I am literally learning all these new terms. I didn’t even know what a stable hand is but now that I Googled it, pretty accurate description ✅
@dianehookham9 күн бұрын
Grooms do everything, they are the horses keeper's, and I reckon the horses have better relationships with there grooms because of it.
@MrAcrobot6 күн бұрын
A groom's job is to take care of all aspects of the horse, in some cases even exercising/riding; and rehab. Usually cleaning and maintaining tack (very hard if it's polo tack lol), and perhaps other barn duties like repair, maintenance, cleaning the buildings. On top of horse, tack, and stable stuff, there's assisting riders such as bringing horses to them (e.g. racing, polo), to swap horses (for polo), presenting them in races/competitions. There may even be administrative work and liaison work with farrier/vet/clients/other professionals. And driving horses to competitions. Basically it can be helluva tough job.

Watching you brings back so many memories of my grooming days in the 1970s and 1980s. I was a groom/sub trainer with Standardbred racehorses for 15 years! I groomed several stake horses and had 3 world champs! A couple were sold to breeding farms when they retired. I started at a county fair track in Ohio then progressed to world class stables all over the US and Canada! I took care to horses for celebrities and mafia bosses. When we were on the racing circuit in summer, we were in a different state every week! Home base was the Meadowlands in New Jersey. But, I traveled constantly for many years on the road mostly going for stake races. When traveling I had to put my portable folding bed in front of and sometimes inside my horses stalls so people could not get to them and hurt them. Back then that was common. People could give your horse a shot to make them lose a race if there was a lot of money involved. I had to do all the stuff you are doing and be totally in charge when traveling to different races. Really enjoyed watching you. I am 75 years old now and retired from the race business back in 1992.

@@EvanTheGroom I was extremely lucky at a young age through my teens to learn from one of Virginia's preeminent horse women, very old school. In my early 20s I worked full-time as a groom for two prominent Olympic/international show jumpers. Earlier this year I worked at a fox-hunting/lesson barn part-time, too (alas I was very out of shape so I've had to stop). Horses have been a constant in my life and it's been a blessing. Everything little thing we do in a barn, as seen in your video, we do for their health and happiness. I love your dedication to this principle as well as your humor. The very best to you and Ashley and the entire team🙂

lol this takes me back, i wish i knew that bedding method, bandage roll method, and standing wrap method.
@nicsxnin67865 күн бұрын
You are a hard worker! As an old horse trainer myself, I was a big bandage user but have learned that they can cause real damage. It’s shocking ik but even shipping bandages on a short time can cause damage because of the heat. I used them my whole life and I still shudder to think of not using shipping wraps but the science is clear, it isn’t good for ligaments and tendons. (Not talking about ice wrap of course, just the others.)
@nicem87465 күн бұрын
They have some puffy loose boots/ wraps for shipping and some other boot/shoes for regular wear nowadays
@EvanTheGroom5 күн бұрын
Hi! Yes I have heard that, especially for riding. The wraps I show in this video are therapeutic standing wraps that is actually good for their legs. If you want to look them up they are called Incrediwear wraps, they make human products too. The science behind these show they can be worn 24 hours a day though we only do at night. They encourage circulation, reduce inflammation, are good for tendon injuries, and help protect the legs at night.

Hmm, I show videos with manure... Maybe that is why I have no viewers lol. My drafts take a lot less fussing, although I work at it fulltime.
@EvanTheGroom7 күн бұрын
I noticed anything that showed horse 💩 stopped getting views especially on TT. Then my mom, who is not a horse person, said she didn’t enjoy the videos I made about horse 💩 and I realized there are probably a lot of other people sensitive to it too, especially if they aren’t horse people and aren’t around it all the time 😬
@thominaduncanson75965 күн бұрын
Do not understand people being sensitive about manure…then they should NEVER watch The Clever Cowgirl 😆…recently one of her horses had the horse version of constipation, and regular manual (yes, with her hands) examination of feces was shown over days. Her videos are not removed for showing horse feces, so cannot imagine trolls on a power trip declaring that people cannot be allowed to see horse feces because it would be bad for them. 🙄
@susanmoore64858 күн бұрын
Why do the horses seem thin.
@EvanTheGroom8 күн бұрын
Because the camera is set to 0.5x zoom, which gives a fisheye effect which makes things seem farther away and smaller, or in this case, thinner.
