You seem to have a lot of freedom during your days for creativity and that's pretty awesome. Well done 👌 I admire people who choose to follow a career path that they enjoy and work hard towards. I'm 26 and have just started writing my first draft for a YA Sci-fi romance fantasy book. I have a 4 yr old, a 10 month old and I work 3-5 days a week in a hospital. I kept making excuses as to why I couldn't write but instead of spending the rest of the night on Facebook or something else when the kids went to bed I've been trying to write at least 300-600 words a day. I guess any progress is progress and that's what works for me at the moment. Life can get so busy 🤯

I love the idea of having three different writing routines for each part of the day! Life happens and its really nice to know that each part of the day can still be productive in its own way. I tend to favor evening for my writing routine because I know I don't have to go anywhere and I can commit to writing with no responsibilities nagging at me. I'll definitely have to work in a morning and afternoon routine, though. It will be a fun challenge for me to expand my routine for all the times I'm too exhausted at the end of the day. Thank you for the video! It's always fun to see how other writers balance their writing and life routines! :)

You're a true inspiration to me. When I started my journey to create a book series, I was super excited as I was able to bring my childhood imagination stories into light and develop them into actual stories. However, after having a few sessions of creative writing lessons, I was struggling for months. I had no idea how to plan anything out properly and only new some of the basics. I attempted to write a prologue example as homework for my story sessions but as my teacher reviewed it, she noticed there was a couple of big issues which drew me into a depressed mood for months. Believing I couldn't do it, I gave up for the first few months of 2020. Then, I suddenly stumbled onto your channel. You were so positive and happy as well as very encouraging but, to be completely honest, I wasn't finding your videos helpful and it wasn't because your videos were bad, not by a long shot. It was because I didn't understand them clear enough because of how inexperienced I am when it comes to creative writing. I tried finding other youtubers for help and they didn't help too much either. However, I decided to give your channel once more chance and somehow, things started to click. I was able to understand a lot about story telling from inciting incidents, themes, misbeliefs, hooks and so much more. Plus, the catchphrase I always go by now is "Make My Story Matter". I'm so happy that I stayed here to learn and even though I haven't started writing my first story yet, I have done a lot of planning that has evolved over the past few months. My original idea was scrapped because too much was going on but now, I have a lot of great and creative ideas that makes my story matter to my protagonist. Like i've said before, i'm very inexperienced and new when it comes to creative writing and producing stories however, ever since I was young I always created worlds, characters and stories in my head. I tried doing art in college but that sadly didn't work out too well in the end however, when I decided to give writing a try, things became more motivating and exciting for me, even if I have lots of hiccups and troubles along the way thanks to anxiety and depression being absolute pains. But, i'm feeling more positive now as I'm working towards something that means so much to me, not because the theme is important to me but because this was an imaginary idea I thought of ever since I was 8 and it has stuck with me ever since. Thank you for making this channel, you're an absolute inspiration and i'm so happy I stayed to watch your videos :)

I recently found your channel so I'm playing catch-up on the videos. When I was younger, I found that I was most creative at night, sometimes very late at night. Then I got married. Then kids came along. I accepted the responsibility of caring for and providing for the family and writing sat on the back burner for years. The kids are grown now - the youngest is married and in another country. I have been deemed 90% disabled by the VA, who then sent me to school to be a writer and get out of the career that was aggravating my disabilities. But I'm struggling to establish a writing routine. Thanks for the ideas you present here! I definitely have to limit distractions and maybe even stay up at night to do some writing.

This is a writing routine that is perfect for my personality type. I'm an INFP, so I don't really like rigid routines the way some people do. Zero routine means I procrastinate, but a rigid routine means I feel trapped. I need something in between and this seems perfect. Part of me wishes I could have a writing routine, but being a person with ADHD who somehow works best amongst all the chaos, I will never have one. I just write small parts whenever I am smoking (I only smoke in my office) and if I feel inspired, I can spend an hour or two writing. I get distracted the whole time but with my ADHD that will happen no matter what I do, so I just let it happen.

This is an older video I just found- but I love your routine! Mine looks very different. I have three small children and am still working towards furthering my college education online. During the day when inspiration randomly hits I’ll make quick notes on my phone for later. I try to write mostly at night, but most often by the time I get the kids in bed and other household chores done I’m too exhausted to do much else. On nights when I’m caught up on homework and I have a little extra time I at least try to brainstorm if I don’t get actual writing done. Currently, true writing seasons are few and far between, but it does leave plenty of time for ideas to stew and develop in my mind, which can lead to really successful writing sessions when they do happen!

I try to write before work. I used to have a schedule where I'd work either mornings, mid-shifts, or closing. I grew tired of it and finally set a schedule to where I can have either mornings or mid-shifts. I end up getting mid-shifts. Works for me because I get up every day at 8:30 am if not earlier sometimes. If I get up earlier gives me more time to write and then do what I need to do before work. I do take my tablet or laptop to work sometimes and write just a little bit more at Starbucks (I work at a mall, and they have a Starbucks there) I'll write for an extra thirty minutes or an hour. If I don't do that, I'll use my tablet to take notes for more stories I want to write and use Pinterest. I always thought I never had time. Before I didn't have as much time as I do now. I try to make time and take a break so that I don't get burnt out. When I get off work, if I'm not tired, I'll write some more. I do need to stay off the internet because I end up scrolling through tiktok or something lol.

So I decided to give it a go. Seeing the 8-5 blocked off for "work" every day is super sad, but then I can see what I have to work with around my weekdays. I think if I can allow myself to stay off of TikTok I can use my evenings to write once my son goes to bed (he's only 2, and bedtimes are --so far at least-- pretty easy). Warning: Dancing to electro swing can be dangerous. I recently twisted my ankle attempting it. It is not great way to start a morning.
This gives me some ideas! I like how you plan out your writing routine the day before, prioritizing anything urgent. I've struggled a bit determining priorities because people are always saying stuff like, "You must prioritize your writing first!" etc. I'm NOT a morning person though (I'm either groggy or wired first thing, with no in between), and it doesn't seem right for me to put writing before an important deadline or urgent task. I only very rarely write first thing, and that's only if I've been smacked in the head with inspiration.

This was really useful, thanks! I also couldn't help noticing your pen grip when you were handwriting. Even though I'm left-handed, I used to write with that pen-grip too, as a kid -- until it was ruthlessly trained out of me by my schoolteachers (back in the 70s-80s -- yep, I'm old now.) Such 'differences' weren't tolerated back then, so if teachers caught me writing like that I'd get the back of my hand whacked with a wooden ruler until I changed it to the 'proper' grip. I hope they don't still do that in schools now.

I work 5 days plus 1 night a week, so I try to write in every moment I can steal away to do so when I'm feeling mentally up to it. Depending on the day (I work 3 different jobs so 3 different start times), I write from about 6:45am - until I have to leave for work, usually 7:30-8:15. I always have a cup of tea with me and I try my best to get work done. Some days I get into the zone and it does totally annoy me that I have to break that to head to work, but I usually have a lingering sense of excitement about my book and I can't wait to work on it when I get home. After work in the evening, I usually take 30 minutes to put my stuff away and change clothes and maybe snack a little bit too 😂before making another cup of tea and sitting down to write more. I usually write until dinnertime (I still live at home and mom usually cooks so I don't have to cut my time short to prep it), talk with my family, clean up, and prep my lunch for tomorrow. Around 7-8 I like to sit down to write again (with more tea, tea is critical lol) and then I'll usually write until 9, which is when I start getting ready for bed. Like you, Abbie, I don't do all of these every day; usually I just have the mental capacity for one and sometimes two. Note: I just finished the NaNoWriMo "Write with me" livestream and I loved it! I would love to do that again sometime!

Interesting writing routines. The time of day I write usually is determined by the project I am writing. I had one novel I wrote that was morning (early morning). The next project was evenings. The Third was late mornings/noon/early afternoon/and afternoon. All three novels were written the same year with days gaps between the start. I find it interesting how the writing times changed based on the book.

Hi Abbie! Thank you for another motivational tips 💙 It's really hard to have a writing routine because of day job. But i'm trying my best to have some time every night. It works for me. Such a peaceful time to write tho 🙏

I just looked up her book on Amazon and the bad reviews were so dumb. Someone gave her one star, because the kids were using cuss words and someone else complained about 16 year olds falling in love because it's unrealistic?! Wtf 😂😂

Anything I might call a routine has to do with taking care of the cats. Otherwise I jump into writing, and take breaks as needed. I like your routines better, especially the yoga and dance. I know I need that in my life but fail to make time for it. Keep inspiring me! Time to go outline my new routines. I'll keep you informed. Thanks.

I just got a new nine-to-five job so the only time I can write is at night when I get off. I'm writing some flash fiction right now. Lately I've been writing for around an hour each night. I know that's not a lot😭😭😭 but I have to study Japanese and do other things! I need to squeeze in more time!

I kind of have a writing routine. At least this year, I can write at a time, that feels natural to me because I am not working because of my pregnancy. I usually sit down at noon, light up my writing candle and use a mix of the pomodoro technic and the browser game 4thewords while writing to motivate me just a little more. While I'm writing, I put on some instrumental videogame music or some kind of asmr room. And like this, I usually write one to two hours with 10min breaks every half hour and get to write 2000 - 2500 words per day :)

It's been hard for me to establish a routine. I have the intention to do it but then I don't. I've been so busy lately with an internship, that I feel like a barely have time. This video gives hope!
