My first period was oddly relaxed? I just sort of didn’t care much I think. I wasn’t even at home- I was at a weekend trip I went on monthly to give my mom a break from my ADHD ass, and I found some droplets of blood in my underwear, went to the “camp counselor” (more or less, just a person who was in charge of 4-5 kids in a bungalow), and took her to a private room and told her I was having my first period. We went to the supermarket after, got some pads and new underwear, and that was that. I wish it was that okay and relaxed for others- I think having a book about puberty that I got around age 9 really helped. I read that book a lot. :)

Listening to the story of the Brother who writes notes for his siblings, and I remembered a concept of Chivalry "To be a Chivalrous is to cultivate a paradox, be both strong yet soft, powerful enough to fight your foes, but caring enough to be gentile with children." It's the concept that to be a man, one must exist with to sides that are seemingly opposed. And it's a concept I hope to live by.

My first period was also very traumatic. I was raised in a conservative christian household and the topic of the difference between men and women physically was never brought up. I never even noticed or questioned why women had breasts and men didn't until that point. I started my period at school and when I realized I was bleeding I asked to go to the nurse's office, and was refused. I got bullied alot and would fake being sick so I could go home early but I was so confused/scared/embarrassed by what was going on I didn't explain it to the teacher. So I sat in my blood waiting to die all day until only getting out of my seat to go home. When my mom came home after hearing what happened she explained what was going on and furiously called the school for not letting me go to the nurse's office. Moral of the story: Talk to your daughters about biology and sex. Please because being blindsided by this shit is horrifying and traumatizing.

I am so thankful that my mother explained to me what would happen to me during puberty... Body changes, hormones, and periods when I was young. When I started my period, I knew what it was and what was happening to me. My mother taught me how to put a pad on and we had a conversation about what periods meant again. I thought that what my mother taught me was commonplace until I met somebody in high school who had parents like yours. When she started her period at one of our friend's houses, she screamed like she was being murdered and was convinced that she was bleeding to death. It took hours to convince her that what she was going through was perfectly normal. It actually took our friend's amazing stepmother having a conversation with this poor girl to get her to feel better.

Well, my daughter started doing some very odd stuff about a month before she turned 13. I found the dishwasher loaded strangely and then I found all of her cloths out of her dresser. I asked her to pick up after her dog, she did not use any poop bags. She started picking it up with her bare hands. She stoped showing and taking care of her long hair, I came home from work and she had cut it all off, it was very long, Very Long. I set up a turning 13 party for her, and on the day of the party I took her to get the cake. She demanded that I take shopping and out to lunch. When I said no, we will be having food and lots of good stuff at her party. Let me tell you, she lost what was left of her mind!! She started hitting me and trying to jump out the window of the car. My now adult daughter has severe mental illness and it started one month before her 13th birthday, and I had no clue, as I am writing this, I am holding back tears for her. That first story at first reminded me of another story I heard (was by another youtuber) about a guy who was raising his neice since his brother died. The brother had debts when he passed, so the guy took on a second job and put an end to his dating life entierly to provide for the neice. When the neice got older, she was convinced her late father had a lot of inheritance money and that the uncle wasn't dating because he was a predator lusting after her. She called her uncle "pɘdo" constantly and ran off to get married to a guy much older than her. The uncle got rightfully fed up and not only disowened her, but gave her her father's remaining debts back which she ended up having to pay. Of course the older guy she got with left in a heart beat and she had to find two jobs instead of going to college. I am so glad story one was not anything close to that and that the daughter didn't hate her dad. Having your period can definitively be stressful, especially when you don't have anyone to relate to at home and assist you. I'm glad the psychiatrist could help both op and his daughter in this.

I didn't panic when I first started my period because my mom did a fairly decent job preparing me for it. Then again she had an absolutely traumatic experience with her first given she was 8 when she started. I did well with my daughter as well though in her case she has medical issues with her reproductive organs so when she started hers, I was at work, even though she knew how to take care of it with pads and the like and did extremely well on her own, by the time I got home she was so exhausted from trying to hide it from her brothers and step dad and from the more intense pains she suffers with hers that she broke down and cried in my lap the moment I got home and she told me. I did the same as the OP in the first story. As soon as she told me even though she already had supplies ready for her we still went out to get her a fun period starter kit with various options, OTC meds to help with the pains, and of course chocolates and a stuffy to help make her feel better. Fun fact by the way. The company that brings you Ben and Jerry's, Talenti, and Breyers ice creams also bring you Kotex and Seventh Generation pads and tampons. They seem to know what's up. 😂😂😂

I thought it was first period immediately, so many of my friends were never told what a period was and thought they were dying and either acted like OPs daughter or screamed so loudly they got their answers soon but OP should have 100% told his daughter, or asked his sister to, around the time she was 10 of what is to be expected. It's a trauma that occurs far too often in kids because parents either don't want to think about their kids growing up or (in a lot of single dad households) dads are so uncomfortable talking about the changes in a girl's body they ignore it all until it happens. I got a lecture at 9 and a few months later had my first one and thankfully knew. I hope dad works on learning more about periods and cause I don't know if he'd recognize signs of PCOS, endo, toxic shock or anything like that. I hope she's okay and dad gets comfortable talking about it with her and she with him because all that worry could have been saved for something else

If you are unwilling, get your kid to a family member who would, as soon as your daughter hits 10. If your daughter already has it, that's quite late and one of those stories where the kid not only has a panic attack, but fears for her life for no reason. You're in their territory, regardless of if what they do next is morally correct or legal, you are in a danger zone. In your own home or in public is one thing, but you don't know what they have at their disposal in their own home. Know your surroundings, know what you're surrounded by, don't make stupid decisions. Plus standing up to dunces who hold these kinds of ideologies doesn't (usually) change anything. As soon as I heard "shampoo all over the place" I knew she had just gotten her period. I felt a little bad for the clueless dad, until it occurred to me that the he should have made damn sure he WAS prepared!

The Friend Mary story. I had a friend do this to me. Up to sexually assaulting me by trying take my shirt off and kiss me. She physically assaulted me when I wouldn't share what a guy was texting me. She wouldn't let me sleep when I refused to talk about somthing. And that was just some of the stuff. She had me walking on glass and it took me a long time to use the words I have and realize what she actually did to me. Mary reminds me of this friend.

Op in Story 1 is an amazing Dad. From the personalized tutoring, to the sensitivity to his daughter, to the quick action and the way he brought in Aunty for what he couldn't handle. Women in the comments casting blame for him not knowing or preparing are trash. Most of you had dads and husbands in the house who don't even know your doctors names or birthdays. 🙄

"daughter acting strangely" "she is 12" ahhh yes, definitely her period

I feel like Daniela knew their mother the whole time. Her behavior being similar to the mothers is very suspicious. Its a scary thought.

If op is going to be forced to care for and financially support both brothers than mother should set them up in support services 💯 OP shouldn’t be forced to care for them. That way the kids can have the money to pay for staffing and living expenses

Right they're getting 90k ffs, that can arrange their care

I had a hunch it was getting her period when they mentioned the soapy bathroom but ngl I thought it was something else when op described the glass incident, glad it was the former but kids can act out weird man - I do remember being scared smth was wrong with me when I woke up in blood at night the first time I had mine, but I was 9 so a bit early to even know abt that stuff yet

My little sister started her period and freaked out thinking something was wrong and I had to sit down and explain to her the whole thing

I was well aware of everything about periods. My first period wasn't like that. I couldn't have guessed that what it was. I'm sorry for anyone who wasn't educated ahead of time.

Story 1: He failed her when he didn't previously explain how periods worked. He should've learned this.

I agree. She's 12, I got my first one at that age and it was also brown. HE SHOULD HAVE PREPARED HER. He seriously thought it was friggin' _seizures_ before he thought it was her period?

Get off your damn high horse. That is an amazing father who missed something. There are people who grow up in a house with both parents and still aren't prepared. He is in tune with his daughter enough to immediately notice something was up and listen!!! Then here you come. 🙄

@@WobblesandBean not to mention she didn't feel comfortable enough sharing this with her dad. She needs to take her to a gyno asap as well...

Daniela HAS to be Colombian 😂 I mean I’m assuming this all happened in Colombia so OP and her amazing family are (at least in my mind) Colombian as well It’s the drastic differences in personality, the chisme, the OP’s outstanding English, and especially the whiplash for me that makes me make this assumption

For the girl with the suits she definitely doesn't need to 'get better'. She likes the way her suits make her feel when she wears them and that's what matters. It just makes me wonder why her fiance (i really hope it's actually ex by now) was even with her when he seems to hate everything about her. He doesn't like the way she dresses or presents herself, doesn't like her hobbies, I assume the previous point means he doesn't like engaging in said hobbies with her, and doesn't seem to want the same things in life. Girl needs to get herself a better partner and dude really needs to extract his head from his bum hole.

my friend has the most embarrassing period story, she was 11 and had no idea her period would start, her class was sitting on a WHITE carpet listening to the teacher read and her period came right then and there

Called that it was a period. I got mine at 10 and thought I was dying too 😂

idk if my fiancee told me there's a family member she doesn't want to invite to our wedding, the last thing I'd do is invite them behind her back, especially if I know why she doesn't want them there. and even if I don't, it's not my place to pass judgment

It’s good the brother didn’t marry the woman who decided to make unilateral decisions about contact with his abusive mother.
@danacarter9147 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. After that helllstorm, 2nd OP's brother will seriously need to keep his guard up with the next woman that enters his life, because that next woman may be just like the mother, or the ex-fiance; another smiling face telling lies.⚠️

Tell Mary if she wants unconditional love, to get a dog. Human relationships involve standards, _especially_ the healthiest ones. She's been testing dominance on you; that's bad friendship on her part - evidently a fact she needs to learn the hard way by getting dumped. There's no room for power games in a healthy relationship.

Mary's behavior was down right abusive

I have had two start their period in my house. My niece thought she pooped herself overnight. I asked if she was menstrating and she didn't know what I was talking about. I braced myself and explained the whole thing and she said "oh, like getting your period?" 🤦 She's really smart, so I forget she doesn't always know the technical words. After that, we worked really hard to prepare our son and normalize it for him. Menarche is scary enough for cis girls, but it's so much worse for trans boys. He was panicked at first because it was kinda orange, and also thought he was dying. But since I had normalized it so much for him, he just showed me right away and I was able to reassure him that yes, sometimes it's funny colors, it doesn't mean you're dying.

Since S has a therapist she should have told the therapist. In most places you aren’t allowed to just toss some one out.

OP NTA. OP quit feeling bad for Sam's ex. If she didnt want to be humiliated, she wouldnt have betrayed Sam like that. She has known your brother for years and knows what your mom and stepdad have done md knows Sam's and the rest of you guys feels towards your mom and stepdad. Ex showed that she is just as horrible as your mom and stepdad. I feel for Sam but truly he dodged a huge bullet. If he had married her, she would be ignoring his legit wants and feelings for things she thinks right while not giving a crap about him. It would be an toxic or abusive relationship, her wanting your bro to be a door mat. So stop caring about her or people who are supporting what she did. Comfort your bro depending on who paid for the honeymoon and where might go and see if more can come too just to get away from everyone.

I feel like a lot of the comments on the post about the woman who is into men's fashion, doesn't wear or enjoy wearing skirts or dresses, owns several bespoke suits, and has her own regular tailor for Christ's sake were a bit mmm I dunno. not good, to put it mildly. like why would this specific person ever think that she'd have to say explicitly that she'd wear a suit in her own wedding? why wouldn't that just be a given? like no, people aren't mind readers, but I don't think the fiancé in this case would need to be clairvoyant to have known OP would rather wear a suit, he just would have needed to respect (or, and I know this is a wild concept but, even love) her personal style. because she's the woman he's marrying.

Story 1: OP really failed as a father when he didn't prepare her for this. His sister at least should have brought it up, but no one thought to teach this girl about her body. If they had at least taught her how her body works she would have at least known what was happening and could have called her aunt.
