I’m bilingual English & Spanish with 2 college degrees, I’m in the process of obtaining a TEFL certificate 168 hours. However, I’ve always had a dream of traveling and exploring different cultures and basically leave the rat race behind. Basically start a new life venture, is there age restrictions to teach abroad? Lastly, with so many online schools for TEFL/TESOL ETC how would one know which school best or it doesn’t matter?
@DarViajar3 жыл бұрын
Hi, there aren't any age restrictions, I've met English teachers of all ages in Spain. As far as TEFL/TESOL I believe they are all essentially the same, but some of them offer more practice. Those ones are usually more hours and more expensive. Some schools require a certain amount of hours/ in class practice but not all. Hope this helped!

How hard is it to get a permanent teaching position in Spain? My wife and I are looking at moving to Spain within the next ten years. I'm a dual US and Irish citizen so I'm legally allowed to work in Spain and I'm fluent in Spanish(my wife is Chilean and we speak Spanish daily) I'm also going to finish my degree mext year as my work will help pay for it and I'm planning to get TESOL certified once I finish my degree

Good stuff. I like everything about teaching in Spain ...EXCEPT...(and maybe you can help me here)....I don't want to teach kids in an elementary school. I am wondering if there is a recommendation you have to be able to teach ANY other courses (nutrition, health, life skills, etc) to an adult audience (corporation, university, high school), instead of English for the young ones. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, I hope that you wouldn't mind answering a few more questions about Cuenca! Were you able to take care of all of your paperwork and everything in Cuenca or did you have to travel to other cities? Since Cuenca isn't the capital of the region. It looks like you rented near or in the old area. Did you find that okay or were the buildings falling apart? Was the city very touristy or quieter when compared to other cities like Segovia or Teledo? Did they have a lot of buses to other cities such as Teruel or to the natural parks nearby? I hope to get a car or motorbike ASAP, but it will take a while. Were you able to buy electronics in Cuenca and, if so, were they very expensive when compared to the USA (since I live there at the moment)? Sorry for the interrogation. There isn't much information out there! Gratitude!
@DarViajar2 жыл бұрын
Hi Maarten, Cuenca is the capital of Cuenca province, so I was able to go to the immigration office right in the city for paperwork. I loved my apartment, it was renovated and definitely not falling apart. But, there were little issues here and there due to the size/age/location. The city was pretty quiet , but keep in mind I lived there during a pandemic! The old town sees tourists but nothing crazy. There were tons of transportation options to other cities and nearby parks. Buses. railway, bla bla car... There were electronic stores in the city, but If I had to buy an electronic I mostly bought off Amazon. Thanks for watching!

@@DarViajar The city reminds me a little of Guilin in China, where I lived for eleven years, without the communism! I'll just need to get a motorbike to escape the chaos every once in a while. Many thanks for letting us know! We are now ready to head out there after the summer!

All I have is a bachelor's degree!

I have a master's in tefl from ASU and a ba from a UC in california. Yo be honest I haven't pursued advanced teaching here in Asia because there is more money in singing baby shark to kindergartners. Up to 28$ an hour. When I teach even middle school students they expect you to do your own lesson planning, content development , testing etc. Working part time like 12 hours a week I can easily make about 1k usd a month. I don't work full time anymore because I have enough money saved, and I have a few other online jobs on the side. I think I just need a change of scenery. What do you think ? Any thoughts?

So to clarify, were you completing a degree when you did this? Like this was part of your degree completion, or a study abroad-type opportunity? I have a Bachelor's in Spanish and a TESOL Certificate, and I currently teach ESL to adults at a community college in the US. I would love to work at a university in Spain, but I imagine I would need a Master's degree?

Do you need a CELTA to get a job outside of being an auxiliar or is it better to have a masters degree in teaching?

I think a CELTA would be a good thing to have on your resume but you can get a teaching job with just a bachelor's degree if you're a native English speaker

I'm considering moving to Spain to teach English. I'm not a native speaker but I have an MA in Applied Linguistics and a TEFL certificate. Any idea how that would affect my chances of securing a job?

Geat vid with a lot of helpful info. May I ask how many hours you worked per week? Also, your video made my realize that you don't have to teach in a big city like Barcelona or Madrid. From your perspective, what are some of the other smaller cities that would have teaching jobs available? Personally, I am not looking to enter the auxiliar programs. I'd be looking for work at a university or a private institution.
