Wow I was just checking out the websites you suggested to see how much those deactivated firearms are selling for. I live in the United states and have both the working AK and the G3 in semi automatic versions. They each cost way less then they are selling the deactivated versions for on those websites! Crazy!
@interstellarlapisthecccp49463 жыл бұрын
That is because the guns you have are not an actual AK-47 or G3 but rather a semi-automatic copy of one. If you wanted to buy a true full-auto version you would be paying tens of thousands of dollars. As for why the deactivated guns are expensive, it comes down to supply and demand as well as the fact that many of these decommissioned guns actually have some battle history behind them and are in fact the models that are collectible, not cheap modern knock-offs you can buy at Wal-Mart for $400.
@interstellarlapisthecccp49462 жыл бұрын
@Carl Carlsson I don't think you understand what makes many collectors of high-end firearms so interested in guns in the first place. The cool factor of having something that shoots full auto is only part of why these guns are priced so high; there are also affordable machine guns like the Stemple you can own legally in the US which doesn't have the provenance of something like an MG34 captured in WW2 and therefore is only valued at a fraction of the price. Collectors value the build quality, patina/finish, materials used and overall look and feel of a gun. A semi-auto HK91 variant with a cheap parkerized finish and low end modern plastic isn't going to do it for some people that want an actual G3 made and used in the 50's, 60's or 70's. Full-auto firearms are a finite resource in the US so they will naturally be a lot more expensive than guns which can keep being produced, but the reason people are willing to pay so much goes far beyond having some toy to impress people with. (at least for most). As for deactivated guns, they cannot shoot but they do have history and they are actually the weapons that inspired all these modern reproductions in semi-auto. If you can't appreciate a gun that does not work that is fine but why call it pointless just because of your own inability to enjoy it? A deactivated MG34 is still an MG34 used by the Germans in WW2 and even if $5000 may seem like a crazy amount to pay for you, the only way to get a working one is by living in the US and paying $80,000 + after going thru all the necessary procedures.

@interstellarlapisthecccp4946 maybe we should repeal the NFA or at bare minimum reopen the machine gun registry for private citizens then parts kits can be put back to full auto glory. It's a shame that a machine gun can exist in Italy or Lithuania then it has to be cut apart to be imported into the US at all, then rebuilt. Its truly legal restrictions that cost collectors many chances at keeping a relic in good shape. Truly they are expensive not solely because of some story but because there is alot of legal red tape for these deactivators and it's not a very large market. As of the last few years the deactivation process has been forced to be more permanent. I can't remember exactly but something like 0.95% to 1% of the UK is firearms license holders. So I could only assume that these products only appeal to 5% of the UK at best. There's just not a lot of room for profit. I'd rather buy a repro of something like a MG42 but those are 5000$+ anyways. Anything from WW2 that is a "cheap Walmart version" is still really hard to come by in the states. The GSG MP-40 the PTR-44, are the only cheap ones I can think if and they are not super common by any means

@drugaddicter4 жыл бұрын
I live in Russia and here people can legally buy firearms that are deactivated in a way that they can fire blanks (or even, after some work) rubber bullets. Such deactivation is kind of reversible. But in the UK it seems like disaster - all parts are welded and not strippable. Awful laws...
@ARMSMASH4 жыл бұрын
@@drugaddicter Yeah the UK, To put it bluntly is a shit country, Economically is a disaster, housing prices are awful, And you need to own a military vehicle to own a deactivated firearm here as well I think. to fire blanks depending on what firearm you plan to convert to fire blanks, you might need to get a trigger group working, get hold of a replacement bolt, and probably repair the gas block if it's an automatic firearm. I should imagine a revolver or a bolt action rifle would be much easier. But don't use this as advice to make a weapon.

How do you get a deactivated gun in the uk, do you need a license or something to get one
@8atheist4763 жыл бұрын
You don't need a licence for a deactivated gun, however you need a valid defence for a 'realistic imitation firearm' i.e. an airsoft gun. Absurd.

@@8atheist476 you don't need a valid defence, that's only for replicas
@8atheist4763 жыл бұрын
@@garfield7658 What is a realistic imitation firearm if not a replica? In order to buy my realistic (replica) airsoft shotgun - an all-black metal version which is not brightly coloured - I needed to be a member of a skirmish or re-enactment group, i.e. have a 'valid defence' for buying it. This is where the law doesn't make sense as there is no restriction on a deac or any type of airgun, but for what are essentially toys you need a valid defence.

As a collector from the states I can state that each one of those firearms in their current condition are worth no more than $60 each. They are only what we call "eye candy".as it has benn quoted many times by gun owners in America, A man with a gun is a citizen and one without is nothing more than a subject of the state.

Yeah deactivated guns are sold for a crazy amount of money where real ones are hard to get. They’re not even allowed here in Sweden. It’s both way harder and costs more to get a weapons license here. I am planning on moving to the US as soon as i’m able to, but since i’m only 18 so far I need to work on some funding and work out other things first. In the meanwhile I am planning on doing the hunter exam needed for rifle licenses both because of gun hobby and hunting. Only rifles i’ll be looking into buying are bolt action and maybe some shotgun as they’re common and cheap, an ar would cost me 3x the amount in used condition as a new one would cost in the US. Taxes are insane here bringing some items to an insane amount of price, a couple those being guns and ammunition. Even gas prices are 3-5x higher here. 58% of the money you pay for gas is pure tax. Only ammunition you gonna find for a decent price is 308, 22, 9 mil and 12 gauge (and then like 6,5x55 which is very common here). Basically common hunting calibers with the exception for a few other very common ones like 9x19 and 22 being used both for pistol and small game hunting (mostly practice though, as most others aren’t affordable to practice with). I think 12 gauge is the only thing cheaper here than in the US for whatever reason, maybe because manufactured here but not sure. (Might be off, its 5 am and only research is a few simple google searches)
