Omg! I’m a stylist too. You explaining the extensions being thick where you attached them compared to the skinny root/ natural is where I am at now! I have been learning things along the way and slowly connecting them. The root frizz has been driving me crazy and trying to go a little more natural compared to my platinum hair and extensions has been a little bit of hard time. Sometimes I want to take them out but this video is very encouraging! Im excited to learn along the way and be able to take the skills to the salon also! Thanks so much for taking your time to make this video and explain your journey!

Thank you for your content ❤ i am 42 and tried to get dreads as a teen but the hairdresser lied when she said she knew how to do them. She knotted my hair in groups, put perm solution and after washing it out said, "now you have dreads." The next day it just looked like a mess! That experience put me off for years, but i always still wanted them. Today i am on day 3 of no brushing for free-form dreads. My hair naturally clumps in small groups of hair and i love it ❤ it reminds me of my childhood growing up in a little coastal fishing town where the cool kids were surfers 🏄♂️ There were hippy towns nearby and we'd visit their markets. I'd hear the world music and see women in earthy clothes, tie-dye, unkempt hair, etc. And i fell in love with the whole vibe 🎉 I've always been drawn to the earthy hippy boho sort of look and lifestyle. But throughout my whole life i was abised and developed with serious mental health problems. After this year ending up in my second abusive marriage and somehow finding the guts to leave, I've hit a place in life where im sick of not being myself to placate other people for the sake of fake peace! Im mad at all the abise and mental illness that wasted my life and I'm ready to live real now ❤ and my dreads journey is how I'm started to take myself back! I want so bad to be me. So I'm rebelling against that abusive conformity that was imposed on me and no longer living like i have been. I love people, but i realised it's limited by the lack of love i gove myself. In order to fully love and accept others i have to give that to myself: i have to give me permission to be who i am, trusting that God loves me and made me in a way that causes me to love natiral earthy things and want to live a more alternative lifestyle ❤ it didn't change when i became a Christian and it's not sinful to love a more earthy lifestyle and aesthetic!! But it is sinful to stifle myself and want the approval of people before God 😮 people pleasing has been destroying my life and my soul 😭 so I'm changing now. I'm embracing my me-ness ❤ I'm buying a tattoo gun to do my own tatts, letting my haor go, decorating my new car with hippy treasures 🎉 and discovering how far down this "finding myself" rabbot trail i can go!! And im excited for it!! These videos really help people like me to see how others who are quirky (as my friends call me) have lived out their own journey of self love, self expression, and authenticity ❤ thank you!!

I been wanting and thinking of dreads for like three years now!! One my life long friends has some beautiful dreads and another one has been going for 2 years now. My job has me mostly hesitant only for client opinions. I work at getting homes to closing completing the occupancy code fails and house repairs to keep it at code. I have been growing my Long hair is going on 6 or so years tho. I been thinking of cutting about 6 inches and keep it at that length. That’s crazy how you done yours. Extension dreads gotta be one the first to do that. BRAVE!!!! Did you ever catch any slack from other communities? Hair in profile pic is almost 2 years old

Almost two years ago I started dreads from Longhair. Then I added 56 dread extensions that were pre-owned. Now I have dreads that appear natural and are almost waist length ... Too long but l plan to keep forever. Liz was my inspiration 2 years ago. Go for it. I wear a tam in all business situations and only receive compliments ... Always at the grocery store?

So I have some questions maybe in another video you can help explain? Is dreadlock mold a thing? With real hair dreadlocks do you need to comb them out and redress them or is that just an option? Finally in your professional opinion, if you are wanting to start your dreadlock journey, would it be better to do synthetic dreadlocks before or jump right in and say let’s just do it?

How you started your dreads is exactly how I started mine fifteen nearly sixteen years ago. I too had no freaken idea what I was doing but KZbin wasn't even around then either. Knotty Boy was the only 'dread' source so my sister and I bought their wax, printed out their how to instructions, put on a day's worth of CDs and went to town on my hair. I remember our dad's reaction walking past our room shaking his head. Everyone thought it was a 'phase' of mine 😂 Fast forward a few months later and although I was consistant with palm rolling, they looked like trash for at least two years. My hair was dyed red prior and i stupidly decided to dye them black to suit my goth phase and i decided to have the tips bleached😒🤦♀️ So, for ten years I boxed dyed them black. The colour was way too harsh on me but i didn't care, until I turned 30 and decided, i 100% wanted and needed to change. I was done with the goth look and really wanted to to back to just my natural hair colour, i just had no idea if it was possible. Luckily, i had a hairdressing friend who was stoked to take on the challenge and so we started the slow journey of gently lifting the black. It took a good three or four months and because black has red undertones and from all the previous crazy colours i had dyed them, I had to go through the weird orangy stage and wore a bandanna a lot😬 Obviously with all the bleach and chemicals there was some damage to my dreads with the ones that were created thinner but i lost no length and not a single dread fell out etc. That was four years ago and i've continued to grow out my natural colour since and have finally reached the point where I want the ombre look again but won't touch dye or bleach again. I have about an inch or few of the gingery colour left on each dread tip so plan on cutting them off and extending them with pre made extensions (human hair) for my wedding in April. As a loctician too i plan on crocheting the extensions on myself although i know it will be a mish.

@@denimd6578 yes I think k a lot of girls go through that "ahh what's the point I'm just gonna get my hair back" point. Little did I know I had put them in so good that it still took me 2 weeks to take them all out, I still ripped tons of hair out and after all that a year later I'm sitting here like hmm why? If I didn't veil my head I think I def would have kept them though.

Unfortunately because, I have Chrons and have had 15 Surgeries my hair is only about 1 1/2-2 inches in a few places. Soooo, I said screw it I'm doing Dreads! I bought some pre-made at a Chinese Wig store and did them myself!! My hubby is 40!! I know, WHAT "40" Yea, oh well he picked me, I didn't pick him because, of the age difference only. We we're the BEST OF FRIENDS and he wanted me to move in with him so, here we are 14 years later Married!! Love it!! So I want dreads but also love my natural hair. If I get them and want to eventually go back, will it damage my natural hair? What’s the process like to take them out? What’s the upkeep like for the roots?
@Xaforn4 жыл бұрын
Depends on how you want them, do you want the semi freeform like she is of the woods or do you want perfect equal? You can have them put in, the better the loctician and depending on the method they use depends on the health of the hair also how well you take care of them. You can keep the roots maintained every few months or let them grow out and lock up on their own. You can cut them off or comb them out. Lazy dreads cut his half way and combed out the rest of the length.

Hi! thanks for the video n sharing your story. I am making dreads in my hair at the moment, but visually it´s not exactly where I want. How long would you say they grow / month? or / 2 months? It was interesting to hear that the small one you made 10 years ago didnt grow as well.. (cause at the moment I am making mine very small.. I have had dreads before but then a studio made them and they were thicker, now I also want to go for smaller, blond ones ^^) xo
@LizKidder4 жыл бұрын
Typically hair grows about 1/2 inch per month, but during the maturing stage of locks (6 months to two years) you may not notice any length growing because they are compacting/maturing and sometimes shrinking up... if that makes sense. Good luck!
