Topaz (he/him, founder of The Skin Deep) and Ichak (he/him) are son and father. On their second round on {THE AND} they talk about parenthood and Ichak's regrets as a father, how Topaz is taking a different fatherly direction than the one he lived as a kid, and how their lineage carries a lot of built-up anger and it affects the way they raise their children.

Damn these shows always make me 😢tear up. I have a son on the way and i definitely don’t want to focus too much on money or work and be too lecturing vs seeing him, listening to him, and building a healthy life long rapport. I know that my baby boy is going to break the ice around my heart and I’m legit scared of the changes within me that may occur. Plus I don’t want to miss any marks when it comes to him. So I’m just all around anxious over the possibility of not being a well rounded parent. At the same time I’m aware that no one or no parent is perfect at the end of the day we’re all just humans trying to best that we can in most cases. As an adult I know not to put too many expectations on anyone but my child may not ever discover I’m a mere fractured human I could only hope he will understand years later when he haves his own or when he comes to reality and terms with his expectations

Let me tell you that baby will become your best friend a always understand you from the inside out.. always be compassionate to his young mind and soul.. sometimes as parent s we see a mini version of ourselves or the other parent but he is his own 👑 King..

ah the tension between them really reminds me of my own family. there is just so much or rather too much history. it's like feeling emotions that happened years ago yet it still stings.

All we can try is to be the parent we wished we had. And not to « our » children only. To all children. Including to the memory of self as child who believed he/she didn’t « deserve » the love he/she needed - and carried that « low self-esteem » all his/her life as a result. Love is not conditional. « Like » is. 🩵

Aaah this was so good. Nothing like those strick parents, that when they are old, they brake a lil and realize their mistakes. You can't blame those old folks, because they grew up in that enviorment and didnt know any better, but it's never too late to ask for forgiveness.

I never knew, yet at the same time it makes so much sense that you're a fellow Jew, Topaz. The Jewish story, while on the one hand is filled with so much persecution and suffering, is to a much greater extent characterized by the overcoming of those challenges and shining a light in the greatest of darknesses. And you carry on this story by highlighting people's humanity, struggles, and yet beyond that - the never ending pursuit to create a better world. Be blessed ✨

These two have been on a journey I can tell. Makes me think of other absent dads (and other caretakers) that has not still reached this mature place.

Was the concern for your father's health, along with your growing family a reason why TSD content has been slow running? Albeit COVID is likely a factor too.

Thank you. Gosh! The beauty of the vulnerability expressed by the younger man, his emotional intelligence …and the capacity to learn and see of the older one. Thank you. May I suggest you see the intrinsic “value” in any life, without “strings” or “conditions” attached - such as “better version” or “useful” ? No need to be anything but your authentic splendid self. Thank you for sharing love 🩵 On anger, isn’t it a desire - and therefore a fear of the opposite , as dad pointed out - to be obeyed, to the extent that one threatens violence? Would the shame mentioned by the son be that of not being listened to, of not being seen as “the one to be obeyed, followed, copied”? If we question “value” of self - and we this is as intrinsic in any life - there should be no place for shame, should there?
