Hi Adam, I'm the guy who said hi to you while you were waiting to board the Delta flight yesterday. I stayed with the flight, and we finally left around 5:20 and got to LAX around 12:30am. They were rushing us to board, as a FAA time limit for the crew was getting close, which would have made us start over with a different crew. The flight was very smooth, and since we came in after midnight, flew straight into LAX from the west, rather than circling to the east as usually done. One good thing about getting in that late is that LAX and the 405 were empty. Really enjoyed you sharing your HI trip, we love visiting there.

*That same day that you left Dec 17th at 3pm Hawaii time. There was a plane with two young pilots aboard leaving that same Honolulu airport and crashed after takeoff. Unfortunately, there was two fatalities. Depending on what time you departed. That could have been a reason for some of the long delays taking off.* They're not supposed to seat elderly, disabled or over weight people in the emergency row. Just in case they're called into service to help others get off.

The area over the gate at C1 is the secure walkway that leads to Customs and Immigration, which is why the escalators are closed off. It runs the entire length of the concourse. Used to have to take the Wiki Wiki shuttles to Customs, but they changed it to an enclosed walkway because it was taking too long. Back in the day, you could go up there and get unobstructed views out those windows.

Adam you really need to learn how to deal better with delays. All flights to Hawaii that are on aircraft, and that’s a majority of them now, with two engines have to follow the ETOPS(Extended range twin-engine operations performance standards) protocol. This is a very very strict protocol to ensure safety. A lot of international flights as well may operate under these protocols. Also that second level was not offices. That was so international passengers can stay segregated until they get to customs.
