My Dinner With Sans - Storyboards

Hey all!
So these are my boards for the project I did with Jess Mahone and Kellen Goff. Jess did the final animation, and Kellen did the voice for Sans. We used the track "It's Raining Somewhere Else" arranged by David Peacock and performed by Augustine Mayuga Gonzales, made for the Undertale Piano Collections. I wanna extend an extra special thanks to both Kellen and Jess for taking the time and effort to make this the best it could be!
I'm so proud of the result of what we made, and I hope you enjoy these boards =] They're technically unfinished/uncleaned, but me and Jess are kinda on a wavelength so this was all she needed haha.

Sans sounds like he does in-game. He sounds low too but in a comfy, laid-back kinda way and not the too edgy or threatening kind. Also reminds me of Patrick Star but if he was cooler.

HOLY SHIT DUDE!!!!!! You really nailed the "Yeah your cool so far but this is a warning for you" energy sans gives off in this scene. Rather mean of sans in a pacifist playthrough but also it's expected by the game that you I'll have killed some people on your first playthrough. When he says look after yourself because someone cares about you it feels like either be better or keep being good because I don't want to have to break my promise. Though tbh sans is very lenient and it takes A LOT to actually make him break it despite his warning.

Toby Fox makes wonderfully ambiguous phrases, which can be interpreted a variety of different ways. For example: 1) Sans would have killed you immediately 2) Sans is protecting you from something worse 3) Sans is making a joke, because it wouldn't matter how many times he defeats you, if you just come back 4) Sans is giving a warning to keep you off NO MERCY 5) Sans is making a joke, because he's a massive troll 6) Sans is making a joke, because he has other plans for you than death The rabbit hole goes even deeper than that. G-route reveals a lot.

This is honestly making me cry. As someone who has never played undertale, this is jawdropping and shockingly sweet and heartwarming while it also gave me gooswbumbs. seriously the "dead where you stand" part jumpscared me even though i literally just watched the finished animation! you did an AMAZING job with portraying the sudden flip.. the candle blowing out and frisk's look of shock.... wow.

One night I woke up in the Underground with Frisk. I used what knowledge I knew of the game to help Frisk through the Underground. For most monsters I was nice but there were a few I argued with. Toriel for example: During her fight I shouted at her for hurting a child and called her a coward for running away and hiding in the ruins. For Sans I basically outright admitted I knew more then I should and when we got to this part I interrupted his "You'd be dead where you stand" comment by saying it before he did. His shocked face... haha. Anyway, skipping the rest when we made it to the surface and we had a few words with everyone I saw the sun get brighter somehow. I knew I was going to wake up soon. For some reason I felt like I actually had a choice to stay though, like I could just choose never to wake up and stay there. I didn't. I wanted to see my life through for better or worse. I got one final hug and was surrounded by everyone right as I woke up in bed. I just stared at the ceiling for a moment before I started crying. It felt so real. Too real. I stayed in bed for a while after that. I haven't even played the game and honestly I don't think I ever will now. I want them to keep their happy ending.

You guys did amazing on this scene! It's mesmerizing to watch sans' mannerisms, which were absolutely on point for the character. I also just love the back and forth of the mood (from calm to serious and back), I imagine that it was rather difficult to pull off mostly for a monologue scene. Once again, Shnikkels your art is absolutely inspiring

Wow, like really just, wow! I love everything about this, I’ve always been a fan of interpretations of Undertale moments like this, but this one is really something! The illustrations bring so much life to these characters to complement Toby’s excellent writing. Not to mention Kellen Goff’s awesome take on the sans voice, I was pretty shocked to read that it was the Freddy Fazbear guy himself. It’s always so cool to watch these animations and storyboards, it makes me feel like I’m discovering the game for the first time again

*Animatic. Storyboard is when you plan the animatio aka the animatic you do next. Then it comes rough animation (that'd be the "sketched" version of the final animation). After that, Layout ("clean up"). That's the final animation unless you do some after production details or stuff
