This video always inspire me, is there perhaps a follow-up on the jib, would be much appreciated, thanx

Thought this was gonna be just another DIY jib. Watched a lot of these vids recently as I'm about to make one, but this is SUPER impressive. All the right elements bar the auto pan, but I cant really fault it. Thanks for the inspiration guys.

the crane shots reminded me of the closing scenes from "Cold Case" all you needed was the Victim's spirit watching and then Lilly or one of the other main characters smiling at them and then the Victim Fades Out from the scene. I'm going to try to build one of these. Awesome vid and project BTW I Am VERY interested in learning video production technique

Getting ready to make my own by retro-fitting a huge mic boom on it's own tripod to hold the camera instead and was surprised none found so far can turn left/right while stationary at a point. Thought I had seen some a while back. Doesn't seem to be that hard a task. Maybe need to keep looking or simply invent a way.

I started with just a 6" lazy susan bearing, but found out it was not robust enough to handle the weight and stress, so I added a 3/4" bolt as a center shaft with thrust bearings to hold everything together. Together they work just fine, and have quite a bit of strength.
@maarten_notjustagrip8 жыл бұрын
Ive just completed a build in 100X50X1.6mm steel that looks uncannily like yours, but then theyre all pretty similar, I guess. Mine is around 9 ft long with a 1:2 ratio in length because I intend to use it with a remote head and full Film Package, so weight is an issue. Even with my long rear section, I will end up with 60-80 kilos on the back. It stands on a purpose built rigid pedestal which can be strapped onto a dolly or skateboard dolly or stand static. I am a total fan of plywood and Im well impressed to see your video. It would be cool to do a load test to destruction, cost being so low n all... see just how much it will carry before it breaks! Full Imax! hahaha. The strength can really all be in the cables if you think about it.

@LivingOnVideo19 The music is on most windows xp based systems already. It's the windows setup music that plays when you configure your computer for the first time. Just search your C drive for any .wav files and you should find it.

@didanhtennis I'm a bit busy right now, plus with winter starting up here in Michigan I wont have any time to make any new videos. I hopefully will have a demo/explanation video that highlights the jib and my new modifications in the next few months. I know how hard it is to find plans and info online, keep digging and good luck!
@DukeNukeIt13 жыл бұрын
@ablasttv The heavier the weight of your camera and gear, the more weight you will have to add to the back, the more the system will flex at the fulcrum point. One top wire will eliminate all upward flex, you will have to try the jib and see for yourself if you will have to add side wires. Mine flexed so bad it looked like a snake :@ but I had almost 15 lbs of camera and pan and tilt gear, and 100 lbs of weight to counterbalance everything. Gotta love DIY! Learn on the job!
@russelljenkins6913 жыл бұрын
Bloody good. I reckon maybe you just need to figure out a way to create some resistance (using rubber perhaps) to give it a bit more control. Seems a bit uneven and shakey to me. Good job none the less!

@1141Studios Cost is actually quite interesting. It is in the low Hundreds, but I'm not exactly sure how much. I've been purchasing parts as I go, plus I'm using bits that I had lying around. To try to replicate it exactly from scratch, I would say between $300-500. But this jib looks a lot different now, it’s bigger and better. I'll try to post some video updates on my new DIY Crane 2.0 :) The boom is attached to the tripod with a 3/8" threaded rod.

Hello Patrick, I'm presently working on some improvements to the crane, and when I'm finished I'll post a new video that will show the pan and tilt system. @DukeNukeIt13 жыл бұрын
@ablasttv The 15' ProAm jib for $699 does not include a tripod, the LCD, or stabilizing wires. There is a lot of camera shake if you dont properly support the end of the boom. When I added the weight of my Pan and Tilt system, the shake got so bad that I had to add side wires as well. It's very solid now, plus it looks a lot cooler :) Most important about DIY, is that if you have some of the parts on hand, your overall cost will be less. If I HAD to build another one, it would cost more.

This is sweet! I am looking for a field cam and can't decide whether to go with 7" or 10". Any recommendations? Also can't wait for your automatic pan and tilt system. Haven't been able to locate any pre-made ones anywhere. Would love to have a simple unit to mount on my tripod that can be preset say for a 45% pan at 30 seconds, etc. so I don't have to rely on my inexact arm movements.

@epicsaintjarod Yes, the entire thing is wood except for the tripod and the lower arm. You can see some of the construction at 3:18 into the video.
@DukeNukeIt12 жыл бұрын
Not at all. I break it down and load it into my mini-van with no problems. If someone were to transport it in a car, they would only have to fold down one of thier back seats and pass the main boom into the cabin.

Not too bad. There's just no mobility of the camera, it stays fixed, so it limits your shots.
@DukeNukeIt13 жыл бұрын
@benvivitron That was intended. I wanted to show the jib booming up from the operator point of view, and then the shot itself. If I reversed the shot, then you would lose continuity.
