Hi there Lyndall Pinchen Canine Naturopath from Canine vitality and welcome back to Happy healthy dogs where I provide natural solutions for your dogs health issues and help them live a longer healthier life naturally.
Do you sometimes feel like you are going back and forth to your vets getting more and more medications for the same problem and nothing seems to be working- the problem is still there??
Well this is the case for many dog owners who have dogs that suffer from urinary tract infections. Did you know that at around 15% pf all dogs will experience at least one of these in their lifetime and often times once they get one, it seems that they start to recur more often. Maybe you have a dog like this?? How frustrating it is for you as the owner but also so distressing watching your dog trying to wee and being in pain with very little coming out. Worse still there may be blood coming out also - certainly not a good thing for all concerned and in fact, these can be dangerous if left untreated. And the other difficulty with urinary tract infections is that sometimes your dog actually can have an infection and not show any symptoms so you are totally unaware that there is an issue.
To top all of this off, most of the time these infections are just automatically treated with antibiotics and if you have followed any of my other videos, you well know the problems associated with giving even just a single oral dose or antibiotics- but in these cases many dogs have had ongoing courses of antibiotics and I have even had some clients come to me who have dogs that have been on continual antibiotic for severe urinary problems. Sadly, apart from the fac that all of this damages your dogs gut, in the long term, all these antibiotics can actually lead to more and more infections as the immune system becomes weakened through constant medications and their effects on the gut.
So by now you most likely feel I have painted a picture of doom and gloom…..sorry guys but its important to understand what is happening to many dogs in this situation. But there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel and I have seen many dogs recover from recurring urinary problems by using a natural path. Of course, it is important to have your dog checked out by your vet to make sure there ar eno more serious underlying issues such as kidney disease. But having said that, Let’s look at my 5 steps to help overcome these infections long term without al-6.5ways needing to rely on those drugs:
1. diet - dogs that suffer from recurring urinary tract infections are often triggered by certain foods in the diet including raw carrots, tomatoes spinach and asparagus as well as dairy products. But any dog that is fed commercial based diets like kibbles can also lead to problems. The pH range for a dogs urine is around 6 -6.5 in a healthy dog. But if the diet becomes too alkaline, you can run into problems. A diet that has a good percentage of raw meats will keep the level of acidity where it needs to be. But as soon as we add in carbohydrates in the form of commercial foods we start to see the urine become more alkaline. And this is when a UTI can develop. So focus on a raw organic diet based around good quality animal proteins, raw meaty bones are a small amount of plant matter such as leafy greens that provide antioxidants, mineral and other nutrients. Remember too that there can be many times where the ‘infection’ is actually only inflammation so by feeding this type of diet, you can help reduce inflammation levels

Every little bit helps I defently suspect my dog is producing high amounts of cortisol, she's always jumpe and nervous and I don't know how to calm her down naturally. She's overweight wich doesn't help but every time I try to get her to go on a walk she doesn't want to or will nip at me if I try to pick her up to get her moving, all Zhe does is go out on the back yard and pee or poop then run back to the room and start scooting her but on the carpet until I can pick her up and put her in my bed, then she starts to act like an alligator and does this sort of death roll with any sheets and does that for a bit until she calms down, she will do the I'm digging for gold quite often multiple times a day, it really sucks sometimes to help a shih tzu with behavioral problems but I'm not giving up. Would it help if I mix a couple drops of grapefruit abstract and colloidal silver with her water? The vet did a urine sample to confirm what was visible obvious and gave her antibiotics wich apparently helped her with her pain and overall wellbeing but did not solve the problem, $200 dollars for bandaids isn't really my style. I don't know what more to do. I give her fiber that has cranberry in it because she also suffers from anal glands so trying to make her feces more solid, is this a good idea? I don't know...
