So she is what we call a treat monster, or a cookie monster. When I first started training her, I did what they told me to do. . . and she was SO food motivated, she became OVERLY motivated for food. . . and it's hard to work with her, even now. She won't do anything without treats, and when there is treats, she won't focus hahaha

Our dog park has a agility course . They have large road culverts as tunnels, a couple of jumps and an aframe. My 5 month old lab/Sheperd can do the tunnel already . The funnist was the day she went into the tunnel, followed by her husky buddy. She went in first but he came out frist, not sure how they passed each other.

Yeah, it smelled like campfire for many days in my area. I think Ghillie Dhu would be good at agility, but there isn't anybody close by for us to take classes from. Drizzle took classes for many years, and I suspect that if I were to set up some obstacles in the yard he would act very much like Memphis did. Eager to do all the things but still wants the cookie. Love those spunky senior pups!

I know this is technically in the past from now and hopefully it's more clear but as someone that lived in a farm area , in my teens,that had lots of burning fields in the late summer the masks we all wore during the period of time when we were protecting ourselves from the virus can help a little if you have to be outside. When I was a teenager we just used wet bandanas when we had to be out in smoke but the masks work better. hope that helps in the future.

We don't use "leave" for anything. Leave it, we say, but it's a different inflection, and dogs do know inflection as well. Weave is the word to use for weave poles.

The only thing I recommend when I come to dog training is more treats! Having a dog do a whole course and only getting the only 5 something treats out of it? Will make a dog grow bored or think it's not worth it. At least for the first few time of practice or longer, give treats for every jump or every tunnel to show how amazing it is to do this! Eleanor should have gotten tons of treats for going through the tunnel, it will let her know that the tunnel is the best thing ever! But you don't have to take my advice. You have trained dogs for a long time now, and they seem to be doing fine. But from learning positive reinforcement, more treats at first help a dog learn faster and quicker How do you stop a dog for expecting to get treats at every obstacle? Well, you slow, give them less Instead of every jump, you give them treats every 2 jumps, so on and so forth, until you can successfully give only treats at the very end Just wanted to let you know I even noticed you not giving treats on the treadmill, and it can be discouraging for a dog to run like you ask, but get nothing in return (I know you do end up giving them the treat, but especially if it's their first time, it needs to be more often to encourage good behavior) I'm not hating on you or how you train your dogs, just throwing out advice I learn and might work for you How you treated Kira on the moving board was awesome. It shows her that it's not scary and it's a good thing!

More treats is not the answer, and is not what's going to make them less bored. Actually, constantly rewarding them, makes them constantly get distracted by treats, which is the issue Memphis. She always turns to look for a treat , because when she started her training, that was how we worked with her, and now all she focuses on is the food. So more treats isn't the answer. Spacing out the treats works better. On hard things, or things they aren't as used to more praise, more treats to start. THey have all done the tunnel many times already (even Eleanor, so they know that one pretty well). Even though during shooting, Eleanor wanted to skip it, she has done it many times. Positive reinforcement training is great, but it's also not constantly about treats after treats after treats. You create treat monsters doing that. You want a combination or treats and praise words and excitement. We call it having a party. More treats does not make a dog learn faster or quicker, it makes them rely on treats to do anything. . . that also becomes something you have to untrain on many dogs! You also have to remember, you see just a few moments of our days, not full training sessions, and things like that. Always remember that. :) Like you said they didn't get treats on the treadmill. They did get treats then as well. It just wasn't on camera every single time. And I know you aren't hating, as I hope you know I am not hating on you either, I totally get that you are giving advice, as so am I. :) Everyone trains differently, and every dog learns in different ways (much like kids! haha). So I get it, I know what you are trying to say, but just remember, you don't see all of every training session, and every training day. :)
