Man you really should hit it with 3 nice coats of a compatible high strength clear coat and wait about 2 weeks then polish it with a good wet sand and polishing compound. It’ll look factory. I’ve had my dirt jumper spray bombed like this for about a year now and put it through hell and it’s stood up to it.

spray it with polyurethane if you want it to last if not the paint will probably chip a lot and never use oil on metal before you paint it

WD-40 is an oil. Oil repells paint. Should not use before painting. And, a clear coat would have given it that professional touch. If you're going to do all that work might as well do it right. Good effort though. Have you seen all of the different types of spray paint the store has nowadays? I think the hammered metal spray paint would look cool on a frame. I painted my back door with it. With some painters tape you could make some pinstripes.

If you paint your frame frequently then I wouldn't bother applying primer or clear. Because the paint will still take a beating from riding. If you babies are trying to build a show bike or baby your paint jobs then this isn't for you.
