Great idea. I believe you may be able to get some funding in the US . Follow benefactors from Polin in Warsaw. Yes , I agree that such a center would be great not only for tourists but for the city and our shared Polish/Jewish culture. I believe you can do it. Good luck

@@margaretsalmieri4341 Jews from Krakow were killed by Germans during the WWII. Their culture is gone with them. New Jews in Krakow have different culture and never asked Poles to agree to that. Krakow is Polish city and very rich Polish culture why we have to share it with completely different culture.

@@barbararadon4796 You're mixing up Polish culture with polakokatolicyzm. No, Polish culture isn’t just about catholicism. A lot of young Polish people are fed up with always associating Poland with pretentious catholicism. I want to see more diversity in Poland-more Jews, Tatars, Buddhists, you name it! Polakokatolicyzm is a result of policies of Zygmunt III Waza

well yeah Kraków might have the richest Jewish heritage, but there are other cities where you can feel it too like Wrocław, Łódź or Warszawa, any big city really, Jews were kinda big-city dwellers in the past

I think it is cool dream, maybe eu-mommy could spare a coin. There is always a lack of third places, not just exhibition but place to interact with jewish culture. It could have value even for poles, sometimes for the giggles, but fun is better than ignorance. US is a bit pro isreael, so maybe they could spare you an apache helicopter, at least.

I’m confused, Michael. You just partnered with the JCC in Krakow on a cultural event. You say essentially that there are no non orthodox Jews in Krakow yet the JCC has, including kids, 1,000 Jewish members only a handful of whom are orthodox. The Jewish and non Jewish tourists that you wish had a place to visit and interact with living Jews? Every year, over 120,000 of them visit the JCC which is indeed a permanent Jewish institution putting on hundreds of Jewish events a year, cultural, social and educational. While not strictly a cultural center, since it has a Jewish preschool, thriving teen and student programs, and dedicated space for over 50 local polish Jewish Holocaust survivors as well as weekly Shabbat dinners and a myriad of other offerings, it is in fact Poland’s largest Jewish institution and a quite visible sign of Poland’s Jewish revival, something you didn’t mention in your 8 minutes about Krakow. Happy to give you a personal tour when I get back to krakow. I do like your idea of a new Jewish cultural institution in Krakow and would support it but please don’t mislead by omission good things that are happening in krakow because they might not fit the narrative.
@lerubenfeld2 ай бұрын
Fair enough. Point taken. No offense meant. I meant something that was more of a public Jewish art centre where people can walk in and engage with ongoing public facing professional Jewish art and culture. I don’t know what you mean about the orthodox/non-orthodox Jewish bit.
@jonathanornstein36722 ай бұрын
You say in your video that if you’re religious you can connect to the religious community implying that there are some observant Jews in Krakow but not much else. As an example, Hillel, the international Jewish student organization has 160 members in Krakow, 5 of whom are religious. If you are presenting Jewish Krakow to an audience not familiar with the dynamics, please present it faithfully. The wasteland you portray is fictitious. Far over a million visiting Jews have meaningfully interacted with local Krakowian Jews at the JCC. They know what the current jewish situation in town is. So should you, a Jew living in krakow for 10 years or so if I’m not mistaken.
