So test test test and retest for three, four, five, six, seven years -- if your parents have the inside information about and the wherewithal to pay for test programs. After 30 years of university teaching and admissions work I see little correlation between test scores and college and graduate school achievement where it counts: inquisitiveness, critical thinking and creativity. Sometimes it's marginal admits or the waitlisted who are the best and most exciting college and university students and who go on to great success. Sometimes it's the top test takers who flame out and barely graduate. Learning is a life-long process and not limited to one particular moment, certainly not adolescence when specialized high school tests are given. If NYC must test, it should figure out ways to identify life-long learners and then devote the time and energy to bring them along. That's real education.

Got into Brooklyn tech! Not gonna lie though, it was one hell of a struggle. When I started going to tutoring I used to get 300s on my practice tests. It was very discouraging however I did not give up and studied twice as hard as before. Those of you taking the test in October of 2017 good luck to all of you and you should know, if you really want to get into the specialized highschools and are willing to put in the work to prep for the test, then there is absolutely no reason why you cannot get in. P.S. Don't go to Stuyvesant unless u want to study all night for average grades, instead come to Brooklyn tech 😂

Stuyvesant has the highest cuttoff score for any specialized high school. Its at the top and all the students are basically geniuses. My ftiends go there and they do all their hw in an hour, on top of taking multiple AP classes. What I think you meant to say was, if youre a genius, go to Stuyvesant High School.

The shsat is not that hard. TBH but you just have to read the questions u r given really carefully to ace the test. The math is pretty much everything you learned from ur whole learning experience. MOSTLY 7th grade and there is a bit of new materials they put in the test. The revision questions u can study for and you really have to read everything carefully. I personally believe you can't study much for reading comprehension, since it tests what you understand. The questions you get on reading comprehension are pretty straight forward, but the answer choices r written in a way you probably think oh none of these make sense but READ EVERYTHING REALLY CAREFULLY. To understand reading comprehension I recommend reading books, it helps and non fictions texts/articles. Ps. If you don't have tutors to help you ace the shsat. I'm sure everyone receives handbooks for the shsat which have two practice tests in them. The content in them is exactly what's in the shsat. So no matter what rely on that book cuz it helped ME ALOT

The preprations do help to get a higher score. However, the test itself is more advace and harder than the state wide exam. Getting 4 dont mean you are eligible for these schools, it is little lower standard than Hunter higher school. The purpose of the exam is to choose smarter kids to teach more advance knowlege that help them get into Ivy. Even some kids get into those school are not able to make it through, if it is choose by the %, not by the qulification, is the next step lower the standard of these school? What about based on % to pick more Asian NBA and football players for each team?

I live in the Bronx and go to a good charter middle school, I am taking the dream program to help me study with a rigorous education and also, studying myself with my od summer hw and long history books, and studying with using the handbook, I want to get into Stuyvesant or Bronx science since they teach science math engineering and technology, cause I want to do computer science, was the test hard cause im about to take it this year in October, was it hard or was it easy, and how did you feel and what did you feel while doing the test, and how was it difficult between a range of 1-10.

Gotta be honest, my parents didn't send me to tutors or anything and I just learned everything from school. Still each year since third grade I got high 3s or 4s on my standardized tests and I got two 4s on both of my 7th grade tests, which matter a lot and I'm the laziest person ever. I barley studied for the shsat and I did pretty good on my practice tests. Though I didn't get my results yet
@jabjabjab42387 жыл бұрын
did you get your results yet? Sorry for being nosy, I just can't afford prep classes and so I want to see how someone with no preparation and similar grades to me did on the test.
