I think you are right about the Hyperstrada but here is another interesting point of view every american should consider: if you do 110 miles with a full tank, that means that you can pretty much do Italy coast to coast with 1 full tank and top to bottom with 6. I think sometimes you forget how huge (and beautiful) your country is.

I've seen many movies, shows, videos of Italy, and it looks stunning. That's a helluva compliment, Nik! A sentiment I do share! I love our (my) beautiful, messed up at times, country! I fought for it..I'm keepin it :) 50 years on the planet, and I've got a few more states to cover.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it: you want to tuck your ground sheet under your tent. If the footprint of the tarp is larger than the tent and it rains then you're stuck in a puddle. If you tuck the tarp in under your tent then you won't run into that problem. Great video my guy! Looking forward to doing some Moto camping from my CBR650R. Keep up the great work.

Having owned a Hyperstrada, the first three minutes gave me flashbacks. One big thing to keep an eye on with these bikes: The throttle-by-wire can short out in heavy rain. If this occurs once, it'll continue to randomly pop up without any real rhyme or reason. When the short happens, your bike will die, even if you're doing 85 in busy traffic on the freeway at night. Sometimes you can restart it while riding, sometimes you can't. Don't listen to the dealership that wants to disassemble your bike and check every connector at $150/hr shop rate. Instead, check the Ducati recall info for the part number of the replacement throttle assembly and swap it out yourself. And keep a plastic bag handy to cover the right side of the handlebars if you need to park it in the rain. I recommend a taller windscreen, as well as strapping a two small gas canisters somewhere just as backup to get you to the next station if need be. These bikes are insanely fun, and undeniably gorgeous. But dealerships will treat you like a walking piggy bank, and the service intervals are unpleasantly short.

Ah the dread Ducati 100 mile gas gauge. I have a 2004 Multistrada and a 2012 Hypermotard. Both will tell you that they are empty at about 100 miles. The Multistrada will reliably go 150 and the Hyper will do at least 130. You just have to learn what the bike will do and use the fuel warning as a hint to get gas in about thirty miles.

I have the same exact bike. I took off the screen and replaced it with a CF shorty and it is much better. The only time I'd use the touring screen is like you when the temp drops. I've taken the Hyper on shorter trips, 200-300 miles, but I must confess, as much as I love it, if I were traveling that distance, I'd be on my Multistrada. Besides longer range, a bit better comfort, and wind protection, the extra power on the highway makes it, IMHO, better for long distances. That said, great video. If you ever get back to MS, I know some good roads to ride.

Just the fuel tank is small 16 L where there was 1 part the nearest city was 320 km and had to look for fuel in the middle of nowhere in the mountains. Luckily the was a kiosk selling fuel of course at a higher price, just to get me to refuel at the next town. Great bike , nimble but a bit small though.

It’s weird that when you start getting out west the fuel grades are flipped. That would mess me up and I’d probably put 87 in my tank by accident. I live in NJ and ride during the winter. I don’t like leather for cold. It’s normal to see 39° with 90% humidity and 19mph wind gusts. That isn’t enjoyable with a leather anything for me. A full textile jacket with a zip in full thermal jacket, then wool thermals as a base layer is best option for that. But I can do 39° with 40% humidity and 10mph winds with a mesh jacket, wool thermal, and a hoodie. It’s not often I actually break out the textile jacket and REV’IT Stratos 2 GTX gloves. Only if I plan to be out for a while or I don’t trust the weather prediction for when I’m leaving work since I get out at night and the elevation there is higher than my house so I have seen as much as a 15° difference and it’s only a 17 mile trip

He might have been more comfortable, but he might not have made it on time depending on what his average speed was. Then again, he could have pushed closer to 200 miles a tank for near half the stops 🤷🏼. I'd like to know as well though if he thinks the klr would have been the better option.

I've done similar trips on both, and I can say the Ducati was more comfortable. Heated grips and some better gear would've made the biggest difference

Wouldn't be a Brapstar adventure if it did start with a gas stop. Have you packed some extra fuel and rode the Ducati till it runs out to see how far you can actually go? The Forgotten Angels Campouts always look amazing. Once you hit freezing temps, anything close and especially below 0C (32F) gets bad. A lot of people that ride don't understand that when they buy gear. If you can't block the windchill of traveling at hiway speeds with hand guards/mitts, windshield, big tank, etc, it doesn't matter. The windchill effect on top of the freezing temps hits like a frozen freight train.

I am surprised it was that much of a struggle. I thought your bike much more comfortable. Though when I did my Super Duke tour in Europe I had about 200mile tank ranges.

I used to do thousand mile weekends on my Buell XB 9 Lightning. The fuel stops were welcome. My Z1000 goes about 100 miles on a tank. It is a shame it doesn’t get better mileage.

Mine gets about 120 before the fuel light with about 40 in reserve - fully loaded backroad mountain scratching.

You know you've had a good time when you come away with bugger all photo's & video from an event. That road trip looked brutal though, especially the trip home. Maybe take the hint from the guy driving the camper bus, towing the huge Ute with a Harley in the tray, and take the van next time.

About the same fuel range as my Dorsoduro 900. Lost count of how many fuel stops I had to do during my road trip to Bathurst NB from Quebec city.

@@spitescorner Thanks for the fast reply! Do you have it connected directly to the battery? I'm looking into the quad lock as well but I'm kinda worried it will drain my battery 🤔

Hey Spite, one thing that is topping me from doing trips like this is how do you secure your bike when parking overnight for sleep? Do you stop at speciifc hotels, airbnb with garage etc? Any guidance with this would be really helpful. So far Ive been managing to hit up friends places with garages
