I'm currently working on revising my play rules right now. One of the things I'm considering is a "Technical/Vocational" school as a community lot. Sims who don't go to college can enroll there and learn a trade - badges or skills. I haven't figured out how everything would work but I do know that my single parents on welfare would need to attend to continue to receive it. I'm also considering working out a couple of residential/community lots for any sims that go into the military career track. The single Sims would live in a barracks while married sims would in "base house". They would "train" on a community lot. I'm not sure if I want keep it in my main hood or add a subhood and make that the "base".
@PleasantSims4 жыл бұрын
I love both of those ideas! 💙💙 I've always thought a vocational or two year college would be really good for Sims who don't go to traditional four year college.

Very helpful! I enjoy the mental exercise (good for my elderly brain..LOL) that comes with playing as realistically as possible. My game has been given a complete fresh, new start. And I've chosen Veronaville to start with as it has been years since I played this town. (Usually I also create a custom town. This time I will instead create a custom subhood with economic ties to the main hood) Also decided to change up how I've managed both household and community economies. Your tried and true methods and ideas are most helpful. Takes time to set everything up; to set the stage so to speak. Good thing some of us enjoy all the preparation and attention to detail! (I also used to have Sim Mayor who collected taxes. Oh My! I agree that gets tedious and means one Sim to look after (as you say). Will give the hacked computer a try!

When it comes to the rules of who inherits the house I have very similar rules. I even included rules for legitimacy of children and if they are adopted or not it goes like that: Oldest legitimate male child > Oldest legitimate female child > Oldest illegitimate male child > Oldest illegitimate female child > Oldest adopted male child > Oldest adopted female child. Every heir gets to keep their last name and if they marry their spouse get their name. The only time a Sim will be excluded from this line of succesion if they marry an heir of a different house.

I'm so happy I'm not the only one who does this kind of thing in their game :D in mine, each household has to pay a hefty yearly tax (and by year, it's an entire 4-season cycle, which is the time I play with each household). The tax amount is a certain % of their lot value, and that percentage is defined by the average career level of all working sims from the household (and it goes from 1% for unemployed sims to 71% for level 10 households, and it's lower in apartments). Besides this main basic percentage, there are fun modifiers: +2,5% for public services (it's a value I change every now and then) +4% for each car owned or -5% if there are no cars at all -0,1% for each green energy tile +2% per student in a private school +1% per hired service npc (includeing the landlord in apartment lots) +0,05% per pool tile (in my game, poor sims don't have pools at home, although they can swim in a community one) For plumbing, +0,15% per sink, +0,25% per toilet, +0,45% per shower, +0,65% per bathtub and +1,3% per jacuzzi I also charge my sims 4k for marriage, 5k for divorce, 1k for birth registration and 3k for each community lot they purchase. There's also an yearly tax for each community lot, if a Sim owns one. I also use Monique's computer donate function to pay these taxes. If they need money, I use the same computer to borrow money (If their bank account is empty, its balance becomes negative, and the owned ammount increases if not paid).The sims deposit their hard-earned money in their accounts, so it can increase with interest and that helps A LOT. Like you, I use an extensive Excel spreadsheet to track everything and yeah, the game gets way more challenging! In order to balance it, I used SimPe to increase the salaries by 30% so they can actually buy food and eat throughout the year! It makes me really happy to end a rotation at a very rich household, when they pay a ridiculously high tax 🤣 I was playing this neighborhood for almost 10 years, but it got corrupted (even though I did everything I could to avoid it) and since my game takes about 40 minutes to load (you bet I have a lot of CC 🤣) and crashes a lot, I kinda gave up on Sims 2. But since KZbin blessed me by suggesting one of your videos to me a couple days ago, I've been binge-watching your Sims 2 content, and I'm feeling like giving it another try! I'll follow your CC compressing tutorial and see if it helps. In case it's not clear, you got a new subscriber in me. Your videos are awesome and your diction is so good, that even though I'm brazilian and english is my secong language, I can understand every word you say very clearly! Thanks for your incredible work :D

For example one idea I had was to tax sims a percentage based off there income tied to what level they are in their job - to simulate higher rate tax payers. Also on MTS there’s a mod by Simler90 called the “Utility Mod” that calculates water and electricity usage. Looks like an interesting way to try and add a bit more realism 🙂. Once again great video!

I fell back in love with ts2 after watching your pleasantview reboot...I 'stole' your rules and now I'm playing through round one (or fall) with all the premades...Don and Cassandra just had their first baby boy (Edmund) and unfortunately lost a second child because of a miscarriage...Mortimer and Dina are expecting their first baby together and Alexander is a teen...can't wait to start playing with the taxes and financial rules next round. One question, though...Alexander is getting child support from Bella (I downloaded the clean version of pleasantview with townies) and I'd like to know how do you handle this: do you keep those money or just cancel them? I was thinking about keeping them in Alexander's bank account to help him get a better house once he graduates...

I have a simplified economy. Treasury: Starts with 10% of the combined net worth of all existing families. Taxes: 10% of net worth, with the following deductions: $1000 for homeowners $1000 for married couple $100 per dependant under 18 $500 if moved in the last sim week $300 per car owned I also do a seperate tax on owned businesses, which is 10% of earned profits (which I keep track of). Sims pay taxes via hacked computer. Sims have 2 sim days to pay taxes or they incur a $500 fine per day that taxes haven't been paid.

I like how much detail you went into for this video, because it definitely expands the game play options and makes it feel even more like a life simulation. It’s kind of weird that for your divorces Don ends up not getting a portion of the Goth’s fortune, but Cassandra gets half of his. It doesn’t make sense. The rich get richer off of the poorer party in this case. Don was accustomed to a certain lifestyle by then and should realistically get spousal support even if he cheated. Had the sex of the cheater been reversed, the cheating wife still ends up getting more than what Don would get in this scenario which is why a lot of richer men like prenups to avoid these problems. (A prenup mod would be hilarious 😂) Alexander Goth didn’t get any money from the family wealth in your sims 3 let’s play which is not realistic for rich sims. Mortimer would have made sure his kids got a portion of money from his death regardless of who he marries and impregnates later in life. Rich families just don’t leave their children poor. Either way, this are some interesting ways to play sims. 🙂 I will definitely get some of these mods for sims 2
@Haags_hopje_0704 жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy. Just a little note that it would be more fair to play with adjusted tax brackets. Meaning that a household with a net worth of let's say 110k would get 10% taxes over the first 100k and 5% for the amount above 100k. This is how it usualy works IRL too cause it would be a little unfair if households just above a net worth of 100k would get taxed a lot less than households that are just under the 100k mark.
@PleasantSims4 жыл бұрын

This video is so helpful, TYSM! I have been wanting to do this in my hoods, but have been putting it off... my question to you is how would you introduce this to a hood that you have already been playing for some time without it? How would you introduce it in a way that felt organic and realistic rather than just I wanna do this now/from now on haha? Would you wait for sims to get to a certain level in a politician or law career (or both)? (I want to play with the idea of Mayors of different hoods given I generally play megahoods) Same for playing a hood in a more integrated style as to have hobby teachers (such as music teachers) and even therapists/marriage counselors? (I have thought of introducing more mods in my game for uni that add more majors and these jobs, but given I play want style like you and I dont think theyd be able to roll a want for these custom careers/majors, I don't know how to go about deciding who might go into that major/career. I want to do both of these, but I'm not sure how to introduce it in a way that feels as I said organic and realistic to the hood and gameplay. I could definitely use some advice if you dont mind!

I *think* I found it in all the files that are still archived there, but there are no instructions in the download. The one I downloaded has 3 files: ah_MQ_Child_Support_Controller.package, then the other two are the same but Controller_A and Controller_B . Is this the right mod? If so, do I just extract all three files to my downloads folder? Thanks!

Hi Sheena! Yes, Simbology went down just a couple days ago unfortunately. I will get around to updating my website links soon. Yes, you found the correct mod. You need all three of those. Just put them in your downloads folder.

Can I download that spreadsheet, though, because I'm starting a brand new 'hood (Simburgdorptonville - my late sister named it), and I DO want to use taxes and all that jazz. I'm actually planning a "Rags to BACC" style, where the first five founders are homesteaders on empty lots with 0 bank account, and they have to dig for treasure left over from the previous civilization that lived on that land, now that the radiation levels have faded enough for re-colonization. The government will, of course, tax them, and pay for some social services, and the like. The garbage collection and newspaper aren't free, and there's electricity and water infrastructure to maintain. But the rich will pay a higher percentage than the poor.

Hi Cindy!! Thanks for another great video. I’m just curious american rich people have lower tax rate than normal people??
@PleasantSims4 жыл бұрын
Our taxes are extremely complicated IMO, and I'm honestly not sure how much rich people pay. There is always talk that they don't pay as as high a percentage as middle class and poor people, but the truth is I have no idea. I only tax my rich Sims less because if I didn't, they'd be paying WAY too much every season and go broke in no time. 😆

I know you’ve said this in another video, but I can’t remember which one! I have kept a spreadsheet for my Uberhood for a long time, but I am adding more columns with some of your spreadsheet categories (is categories the right word? I’m not sure!) How do you find out the gender preference of your sim? I feel like you mentioned a mod that you use to see this, but I just can’t remember which one!
@PleasantSims4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ashley! You can use either SIm Blender (under Traits) or ACR to check a Sim's gender preference. I use both of them depending on which one is closer. Lol

Cindy! My Sims now hate you for making their lives even worse financially! I love this system and I will definitely incorporate all of it into my neighborhoods. I also wanted to mention one thing that I've recently discovered while playing Veronaville. The only families that are considered matriarchies are the Capps and the Summerdreams. The Montys are patriarchal (you can see it when you look at their family tree, because all of the women took their husbands' last names, like Isabella took Patrizio's for instance). I don't know if you care about that at all and so feel free to play however you want, but I just wanted to share it with you as I had seen that you made Isabella the founder of the household in your recently shared spreadsheet and I personally think Patrizio should be the founder.

Very Helpful as always but why is there a flying pig in pleasantville??

That's the Pink Floyd pig that floats around in any neighborhood that has a Sims 2 water tower. It will randomly appear if you stay in neighborhood view long enough.

where were these rules and mods when my 12 generation legacy (10 years ago) had upwards of millions by the time I stopped playing? could have kept things more grounded haha.

Wait. In American taxes, aren't the rich supposed to pay a higher tax rate? The upper brackets? Shouldn't that be 5% on families with LESS than $100,000? Well, that's how I'd do it, certainly.
