If you think you don't have enough time to play the end game/military, I suggest you change the settings for victory. Instead of the winner be the first to reach a certain amount of victory points, you play the mode where you play 200 turns and who has most points at the last turn wins. This game, when you were talking about the lack of time to play with the military, I think you only played for circa 126 turns, if I am not mistaken. So you would have much more time to play if you changed the settings

That was a fun lets play! Its great to see Old World get some attention. 🙂 Old World is designed around your nation being a newcomer in an established 'Old World'. The default settings have the AI starting with many cities . . . but no gameplay advantages. The world is intentionally unbalanced, some AI will have small empires and start weak and others will be large. It forces you play them off against each other via diplomacy until you nation is strong enough to partner with someone or take on a weaker AI yourself. Coalitions need to be formed to take on the strong AI. Its very different than Civ or most other 4x games that start everyone on an equal footing. The 'intended' victory condition for the player is achieving their 10 Ambitions. The point victory is mostly there for the AI to apply pressure on you. The Ambition victory represents your nation having 'made it' in the world and left a lasting legacy on world history. What I really enjoy about the Ambition victory is that it effectively lets you set your own victory conditions. What ambitions you get offered depends on what type of families you use and what playstyle you choose. The game is also better balanced around Yearly turns instead of Semesters. Yearly causes much higher leader turnover which resets opinion, changes alliances, and disrupts both you and the AI nations. Semesters provide a more static play and lead to more 'overpowered' leaders and yields. Semesters are usually used for specific 'historical' scenarios instead of the base game.
@Caio220118 ай бұрын
Yeah, semesters gives leaders a big advantage, the thing is that the AI is usually broken good at using said yelds
@ThomasDega8 ай бұрын
Excellent comments. I would also add that using the 'random' map setting often results in some nations getting very poor start locations and one superior start location. At the highest difficulty level the AI that gets that great start can easily outscore and overrun the player. Winning often requires blocking of the AIs expansion routes, but sometimes there is nothing the player can do to prevent them achieving massive growth. There are also fixed start maps and random maps of a specific style (like seaside and inner sea) which are often more balanced than just using the 'random' setting.

While I do enjoy Civ 6, I tend to watch more of your videos when you branch into these other great 4X games. It's a real treat to watch you playing Old World and AoW4 -- do more of that in 2024, please!
@timwhitman32078 ай бұрын
Honestly choosing semesters instead of years made this harder for you. If you use years leaders die and reset more often, and that helps keep the AI leaders from growing too OP with stats.
@skyfall71108 ай бұрын
The same is applied to your leaders though He had 18stat leaders! It's crazy. I'd say he went too late on Odeons and you need to build hamlets surrounded by Odeon amphtiather to be competitive
@timwhitman32078 ай бұрын
@@skyfall7110 of course it applies to your leaders, but the enemy leaders gain xp much faster than you at this difficulty, so not having them die as often means they get much more powerful much quicker than you, and that scaling ramp just gets steeper and steeper because they live twice as long. So it impacts them more than it does you.

You played a really good game, especially given the difficulty you chose to play on. It certainly was exciting to the very end! I just got this DLC this morning and am looking forward to playing the game over my 3-day weekend. I haven't played a serious game in maybe 2 years.
@the_hate_inside10858 ай бұрын
My few cents: Put your heroes/generals in your absolutely best units, that kill the most enemies, and they will level up much faster. Make an effort to always last hit with your hero units. You put them is some random archer that was not even near the front-line. Getting a high tech hero unit leveled up into oblivion, turns it into a one man death robot. Going into the path of war, you would have benefited a lot by having more training points available. Also culture = victory points, you really didn't focus enough on researching key culture tech, and building those buildings. If you want a longer game, just set this up in options prior to starting the game. Anyway it was an enjoyful series to watch.

You win some, you lose some, but you fought valiantly! Plus, it was the hightest difficulty. Maybe a revenge match to teach the AI a lesson? :)

You can modify in various ways, I do agree on higher difficulties it becomes a race to get pionts just when you hit the "late game stride". I personally don't completely hate it because Old World's late game feels really tediuos (even if the units and techs and civics are awesome). I do wish that the end game was..sligthly tweaked, because it always does feel the game ends just slightly to early, and points is easier than ambition. One AI civ is usually given a god start. Your start wasn't good I agree, but wow I have never seen a start as bad a Rome's, and Carthage and Babylon both had bad starts. Weird RNG. Last things I want to say--I think a polytheism build is SUPER hard even with all the bonus you were getting to shrines You need two mid game techs to make it work as compared to one early game tech for , and as a result I think both your lumbermills and Odeons were delayed. The delay in Odeons I thik is what actually lost you the game.
@houndofculann17938 ай бұрын
Have you tried if the setting for requiring more victory points makes positive difference in regards to the game ending slightly too early? I haven't done that yet
@wolfhh49268 ай бұрын
@@houndofculann1793 it makes the game end later for sure, and tends to make ambition victories, (which only human players can do), the easier way to win. It also tends to make a late game "superpower" clash more likely, especially against runaway Persia, Assyria, or especially Rome. Its also the only time I've ever gotten to the very last civics, and even then if I get to them I usually have won. I personally find I have more fun not modifying them generally.
@Caio220118 ай бұрын
I actually do think the end game of Old World is slightly imbalanced, but that's because it likely has the best AI from any 4X game I've ever seen

When I tried this game, I think I saw a setting in there about some civs getting more starting cities. Apparently it defaults to 'older' civilisations getting 2 extra cities. That doesn't seem fair to me, but I guess it makes for a challenge like Assyria in this vid shows The game is neat, but I think I prefer watching it over playing it at this point

Not sure if you completed the tech - but if you had you could have peaced Egypt and then just declared a Holy War on them to fulfill that ambition which I believe would have accounted for your last point. Otherwise this was a fun series.

yes. the starts are imbalanced. i like to lean into it. i don't play on the hardest settings for that reason. i guess the "game ends right after you get the cool stuff" is something i'm used to from the boardgame world. most euro style games I play you get like 1 round with the powerful stuff and then its scoring time

If this had the war mechanics of that game with the tomes (name please?) the layout strategically of Civ vi, world maps of Vic 3 and Civ 6, and keep the graphics of Old World and we have the perfect world exploit game with economics, war, and individual conflicts controlled manually

The base game is decent, is this expansion worth half the game $? A bit irrelevant for a content creator that gets for free i guess. Feels like stellaris style extortion again. I think just using Revan's mod pack has more content added.
