@dont normally "Blessed" Basically gives you max luck. If your leader is blessed, you're less likely to receive negative events and even when you do there might be an option to just avoid it. Good events happen more often and can get even better with blessed. Sometimes you'll just get free stuff (one time I got 1.5k gold and a few hundred resources from a trade mission). Blessed characters also live longer and can cheat death (one blessed character I had reigned 75years).

Alternatively a blessed character might get assassinated by jealous aunts. However it led to an AMAZING reign by the 6 year old heir and her uncle kind regent, so maybe that was the plan all along

Hmm.. this only goes to "late antiquity" tech wise, you say? Well that peaks my interests now for sure. The main reason I don't play civ is because you'll have people fighting between cannons crossbowmen. The tech gain is so fast that I can't enjoy specific ages. Also, I'm a huge fan of the ancient world. I'll try to check this out soon.

Only half way done this part, but can't imagine this will lead to victory. 1) Civics- Crucial, nearly as important as orders as the #1 most important thing in the game (followed by Stone). Higher civics can also accelerate the acquisition of getting more orders via training specialists quicker that provide Orders, like Acolytes from the Shrines, or rural specialists on Horses and the like that boost orders. There are also numerous Urban Specialists that increase orders. In a macro scale, no Civics means no Laws, Council Appointments, Council actions among other things. The more relevant aspect though is that Civics is (by far) the most important thing for Cities. One needs Civics for specialists and projects. Everytime for instance one passes on Forum and instead starts another project (like Library, without Gnosticm on a State Religion city which grants +2 Civics for the Library), one is slowing down the cities curve of potential and relevance, and delaying the time it takes to complete all the future actions of the city. Civics can even compensate and solve for growth, since if one has a good amount of Civics, one can complete Festivals in as little as 1 turn, drastically pumping raw growth for the turn (usualy enough to get a new Citizen) and helping significantly reduce discontent (which eventually leads to more Growth once the City has positive happiness levels), and permanently boosting Culture. There are also a host of other projects that can tackle things like Science and the like, all of which one needs good Civics to make feasible. A Judge Governor can try to perma-rush to compensate, but nothing competes or equals raw Civics as the most important stat, in the long run. One should view Civics as similar to Production in other 4x games. Production is King, and Civics is King. No Civics, No Win. Simple. 2) Besides the game ending horrific city management and neglect of Civics, that all but surely dooms this game at the highest difficulty level, there are plenty of other unforced errors. One example is @1:42:30 with Levelling up. For a ranged unit like the Slinger/Archer/Longbowman line, Eagle Eye into Marksman is King. Those are the 2 best upgrades for a ranged unit, unambiguously and by a huge margin. The second best level up for them is the Combat line, which is overall the best promotions in the game for the vast majority of units, since at Combat II one is already ahead of other stat boosters in raw benefit, and Combat III clears anything. We pick a drastically worse upgrade in Focus I, portending disaster for the likelihood of success for this game. Its nice to see Max Difficulty, but Potato is well below the skill threshold needed to win barring a fluke or blessed fortune.

I completely disagree with the argumentation that counterattack is a free order and it would not be fair if counterattack was present. If attacker can deal damage without consequence it makes the combat ridiculously skewed towards the attacker. It is not 'free' for the defender, because unit suffers losses. 1) if multiple units attack single unit it might die without inflicting any meaningful damage to the attacker. And it is a great trade - a few orders for a unit. 2) Even if it does not die - it is wounded, so if you now want to counterattack - it attacks with a lower strength inflicting less damage (another cost). But often you will want to retreat the unit and/or heal it - well, that costs orders + orders - if the unit is severely wounded you will spend multiple orders just healing it. Suffering damage without counterattack is NOT FREE. Such claim is ridiculous. I don't buy it. The orders system is an interesting idea, but it has consequences that are not that well handled by the creators of the game. One way to fix the 'free counterattack' non-issue (if one is so concerned with it) would be to make the attacks not require orders. The order cost for moving units is enough to reflect the cost of launching an offensive. Orders represent the ability of the empire to organize resources for various activities in the empire: building infrastructure or moving troops. But it should not be like that that a spearmen unit is in the field being attacked and the soldiers will stand there and let the opponent slaughter them, because they did not receive a paper from the capital saying they should defend(!). The no-counterattack combat system combined with the excessive movement of the units allowing to attack from beyond the horizon and flank defensive formations with ease is the reason I don't play this game despite it having so many great ideas in other areas.

1 turn in game is 1 year, so it makes sense units can move long distances. It is possible to replicate the campaigns of Alexander the Great in Old World, unlike in Civ. No counterattack does seem weird at first, but it is just the civ system spread out over multiple turns. Games like D&D have attacks separated out over turns. Units with low health still do a lot of damage compared to full health units, so you can't neutralize a unit until you kill it.
@erykczajkowski8226
@erykczajkowski8226 Жыл бұрын
@@jessel3621 Game turns are a simplification, you can not say that a turn is a year and therefore huge movement is fine. In Civ the initial turns are equivalent of 50 years or something, but it's just a convention. This huge movement might make some sense for transporting units between cities (I wouldn't mind it that much for this purpose), but not for the actual battle. Humankind actually addressed this problem to some extent by taking the battles out of the strategic map turns. But OW mixes two distinct concepts - travelling with battles. It makes sense enemy can attack you from places outside of your vision range (in OW movement is easier and faster than sight). It makes no sense in a battle context that no unit in the formation is safe, even if withdrawn to the back, because enemy can EASILY go around and finish off whatever he likes. It makes no sense that formations do not matter, placing melee units in front does not matter, because you can go around and attack the archers in the back anyway. Or you can concentrate archer fire in a barrage bombardment because of how much range archers have too. Warfare in OW is just a meat grinder, you kill a few units then lose a few units, then kill a few, then lose a few, until someone runs out. If you have more units and start the attack - you basically won. It is a win-more mechanic. Promotions don't matter, because of how easily units die. You had experienced troops? After a few turns of this madness you have them no more. It is not a game of tactics, just of production potentials. And this is boring. And of course, you can do to the opponent the same that he does to you (except you can't really if you want to play on high difficulty, because AI will SERIOUSLY outproduce you), you can adjust to these rules, it just gives me no pleasure then, because of how wrong ALL of this feels. I have not played D&D, but I played multiple Civ games, Humankind, Panzer General and it's multiple clones, HOM&M - combat there made much more sense and there are tried out and WORKING standards of warfare in the industry. But creators of OW want to kick the open door and propose something very different in areas where it is not needed.

@@erykczajkowski8226 game turns in Old World are literally 1 year. It's not a simplification or a superficial number, like it is in Civ. Every turn your leader and other characters get 1 year older. Old World isn't for everyone, no game is, but I think it is the best historical 4x so far. My previous favorite was Civ4.
@erykczajkowski8226
@erykczajkowski8226 Жыл бұрын
@@jessel3621 From the perspective of leader turn is 1 year indeed. And it is pretty well reflected. But from the perspective of battles it is different. Battles usually lasted 1 day, not multiple years. So having battles spread over multiple turns is a simplification. Building a farm or lumber mill in 3-4 years is a simplification. Waiting for peace treaty 2 years after you just fought the guy in the field is a simplification.
