I am back in East Sussex exploring the landscape, heritage and nature. This time I am taking a church to church walk from the rural hamlet of Chalvington to Eckington Corner in Ripe.
I am in search of what England means to me. Others will have another concept of this country and that is for them. These videos are about My England.

Thank you Richard for another lovely video! I so enjoy seeing the gorgeous old churches you go to! We don't have anything so ancient here in the states. You do such a wonderful job sharing the English countryside and heritage! I also love your new spacious studio. All the best to you, the lovely Julia and little Joe from Massachusetts!

I always enjoy your church to church walks (series) Richard! Chalvington & Ripe had two very lovely, old & charming churches. Both you can tell have been very loved & well maintained by their communities. Just loved the arched carved windows of both of them. Though the 2nd one, I really loved how much light was allowed in by their vast windows. Also was really nice being able to hear the bells ring as you approached the 2nd church!

Thanks Richard for today's walk, talk and video. Another lovely part of East Sussex so peaceful and picturesque! Interesting to see the old K6 Telephone Box at the beginning of the video, still looking almost as it was when last in use.

Fantastic filming of your walk in the beautiful countryside & churches thankyou for your sharing. The peaceful ambience is felt on your video inside two churches. Fab springtime Shorts🤩. Stay strong, fit & well. Keep on walking & filming🙏👍 (nay mind about the grammar police, its only their banter and fun. 🙂☺ ) Our Dry UK in April, showing in that field you crossed. Church Bells heard on your video at Ripe Church, Eckington corner 😍🙏👍and your footsteps heard inside on the floor, just perfect. AMSR Thankyou. Keep Exploring.... Baldly.

Whoops sorry Richard, I became so engrossed with the 'grammer police' earlier that I clean forgot the reason for being here in the first place ! Smashing video old chap and a pity we don't have a representative from the 'innit' police force amongst the viewers!

Wonderful walk and 2 such different churches, so close to each other. I wonder if the church at Eckington corner was built near the manor and the village grew up outside the manor lands on a cross road?

Hi Richard ..... how about personalising the Vobes Van, the Vobesmobile ..... a modest logo or a simple 'V' at least. Best wishes .... I did a Scout hike to Ripe and Chalvingto to Selmeston .... from the A23, probably in 1965. My co-hiker was seriously chased by cows and we discovered the remains of a railway bridge in an embankment in a forest. Thanks for all the fab videos and helping us all appreciate Sussex. Much love.

I know of three places where there are churches within sight of each other. Two of the churches are on opposite sides of a steep rugged valley and were built at a time when no one had cars. Two more were built on opposite banks of a small river but to get from one to the other you had to travel quite a distance to cross a ford as there were no bridges. The other two are really different; they are in a small town, both Catholic, but built by two different ethnic groups, one Polish and the other Irish. Today one priest with one assistant holds services in both churches. It's strange but true but some villages competed to see who could build the best church even though they should have combined the two parishes to build one church for everyone.

Interesting to contrast the two churches. That field looked like you were crossing a desert its been so dry. Ripe is not huge but does (did?) have a pub and a very good village shop / cafe. Why not go explore?

Great video Richard, you never normally see two churches so close to each other and they both look so different but both look so lovely. Both of them lovely buildings, music is very good too, will you be visiting Ripe to have a look around or is it more towny then country ? I think a church to church series would be quite good. :)

I love the smell of a medieval country church. Not far from me is an 11th century church with wonderful though faint wall painting of Heaven and hell. It was whitewashed during the reformation but during the last century has been restored.

The local pronunciation of Chalvington is or was "Charnton". Would be interesting to know whether any descendants of the old families still live there.

Lovely to see you exploring some of the churches of East Sussex Richard. One you might like to put on your list to visit is the "Church-in-the-Wood" at Hollington - St. Leonards-on-sea - What3Words address ///remain.crowd.twigs I sang in the choir there as a boy but now live in Essex. Keep up the good work Richard! 👍🙂👍

Grammar police told me that it's either "more humble" or "humbler" not "more humbler". Of course, one could go the whole hog and say " more humblerer". I know, I don't have a life. Loved the walk by the way !

Would the grammar police like a day or two off. Finding faults doesn't inspire one to carry on making the videos. It does the opposite in fact. I end up thinking, what is the sodding point!
