I am brand new to the Fountain Pen community this holiday season. After countless videos and blogs, I decided on a Lamy and a Kaweko. I really wanted Twisbi, but was too afraid of the whole buying inks and filling the pen. Maybe, next year I will be ready to take that leap. I do love a cuppa green tea hot/cold no additions, coffee with anything peppermint mocha & my Dutch Blackberry tea. Thank you for all your helpful videos! I can't wait to start journaling with fountain pen(s). You've inspired me to look at life through a different lens and see teasure in everyday paper products, using them to write about joy and gratitude within my day. Happy holidays!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! First of all, welcome to the fountain pen community! 🙌Starting with a Lamy and Kaweco is a solid start. They're reliable and easy to use, perfect for beginners. And trust me, once you feel ready to explore inks and filling, TWSBI pens are a great next step! It can feel a bit intimidating at first, but trust me. It's really easy to use them! And then you'll have so much fun with ink color pairings!❤Oh, and congratulations on winning my fountain pen giveaway! I'd love for you to experience this pen. Have a feeling everyone will be recommending an addition to your collection…and I am no different. 😊 For practical reasons, I think everyone should have a glass dip pen. Okay, well most people. First, it would look beautiful on your fabulous desk top. They are relatively inexpensive for beautiful, colored, fancy glass designs. Practically, they allow you to make ink swatches without have to fill then possibly clean a fountain pen once you change your mind. As for writing, there is just something nostalgic and special writing with a glass pen. Probably not for extended long journaling sessions, but it will slow your world down if/when need be. The smooth feel of the blown, molded glass that gently warms with use. The occasional pause to ink your pen allows you to collect your thoughts while writing or drawing. It’s a very unique experience. BTW, love your videos.

Well, you just sold me because I've been thinking of trying one. However, I'm new to the journaling world, and I only have one vintage fountain pen that I started using recently. Do you have one you would suggest or are they all pretty much the same?
@kich617211 күн бұрын
@@kstari i'm no expert on glass pens. I bought mine so long ago I don't even remember where I bought it. When I started looking into them I don't recall any huge differences. I simply looked for one not too expensive and that looked nice. Good luck!

Chatty videos are where it's at, always love them! I'm new to fp's. My favorite cuppa is just black coffee (nothing else added), pourover made from McCafe brand coffee. I've tried all kinds of expensive whole bean coffees and nothing is as delicious to me and my hubby as the McCafe brand, don't know why...they must sneak something in it to make it so addicting! 🙂 I love your deskspace, it looks so serene and calm.

I’m a fountain pen user for several years. I also use “regular” pens for grocery and task lists. I love smooth pens too! Don’t own a Lamy Safari. First was Pilot Metropolitan in white Tiger. I have never bought a Sailor because I don’t like scratchy feedback. Hemingway Jones put out a video recently on what he’d do if he started his pen collection all over. He had done insightful ideas. As always, I am enjoying this video.

London Fog all the way! I especially like London Fog lattes when I can get them. As for fountain pens, my first pen was a vintage sailor that I bought off eBay. I love the look of it, purple with silver, and the nib size (I like fine pens) but after watching your video, I know now that the scratchy feeling frustrated me to no end. I have a couple of Pilot Metropolitans that I’ve been using instead, but am not in love with them. I so appreciate your reviews! I’m looking up your picks for sure. Also, if you haven’t done these videos already (I haven’t been watching super long), I’d love to see your ink testing process! And, one more question, how are you selling your unwanted pens and ink? Thank you for the lovely and relaxing video!!! ❤

Hi Michelle, You and I have similar taste and you're an ENFP, I'm and INFP. My ink collection is almost identical to your collection, so I would like to make some recommendations: 1) Diamine Autumn Oak = orange with a brownish undertone ❤ 2) Akkerman SBRE Brown = brown with a warm orange undertone (worth the extra cost!) ❤ 3) Diamine Meadow Green = a happy green, without being overly bright ❤ Runner-up: Diamine Brandy Snap = similar to SBRE brown but maybe a little browner Pilot Iroshizuku Yama Budo = red-violet Herbin Larmes de Cassis = a slightly pinker red-violet

I am new to fountain pens, but love the idea of a conversion piston. Purple is my favorite color. My first pen is a Sailor Profit Jr 10+ with an extra fine tip. It has a TON of feedback - quite scratchy, but it writes quite small if desired. My only ink is the teal ink (Sailor Mizutama) that the Sailor came with as a set. I often write small, so I appreciate an extra fine tip. I have also been experimenting with some glass pens. But yes, a fountain pen does seem like it makes me want to write more.

Wow! You’re so sweet to gift a fountain pen! I love my clear Pilot Kakuno-great nib and affordable. It’s my only fountain pen. I have tried the Platinum Preppy, but it was too scratchy for me and the cranky sound it made inside the barrel bothered me. My kid broke the nib so I had to toss it, otherwise I would not have tried the Kakuno. When I’m feeling spend-y and want to treat myself, I love Philz Mocha Tesora, iced, lightly sweet, medium creamy! SSOOO good! I’m so curious to try your beloved London Fog, though....

I’m so looking forward to this video. I need to really explore other fountain pens, I have only ever owned and used two and both feel quite scratchy and not very pleasant to write with so I can’t wait to hear about your collection. 7:48 Lamy Safari - this is one of my scratchy pens, I hate it 😂. I would say it was not a good introductory pen for me because it turned me off of FPs for a while.

Great video! I started my journey in 2019. I can honestly say I love my Pilots and TWSBIs. I would recommend the Pilot 823 - there’s just something about it. Pilot nibs have to be the best! However the 823 is a vacuum fill pen. So if you didn’t like the TWSBI Vac 700, you may not like the 823. However - the Pilot Custom 743 is the 823’s brother. Same pen but it is a cartridge/converter pen. I have this one in black - chef’s kiss! LOVE EVERYTHING about the 743 and 823! Also, these nibs are swappable! 😊. But it’s a matter of personal preference. The 823 holds a whopping 2.55ml of ink. I use this for journaling. You cannot go wrong with either one. Thanks for the video! God bless you.

My favorite inks so far would’ve to be from Ferris Wheel Press. They have such a wide range of beautiful colors and shimmers. I said so far because I must’ve had 20 or so of their inks and haven’t tried others yet lol. Would love to add another FP to my collection. Right now, I have a caffe bronze TWSBI like yours, a Sailor Every Rose has its Thorns, and HongDian Green FP.

I fell down the fountain pen rabbit hole maybe 40 years ago. Bought a Waterman that I still have but I had trouble with it and didn’t know as much about feedback and different nibs. So I didn’t use them regularly until I went to Germany about 10 years after that. Fountain pens everywhere for cheap and wonderful writers. Still have those two cheap ones but after I got back I found a pen store in my area and bought a Lamy and a Pelikan. I still have them both and like them both for different reasons. I think the Pelikan is an M200 in the sort of brownish yellow color. It’s a piston filler and I really love it. It’s the most expensive pen I have but it was still under $200. I think you would like a Pelikan. The Fine nib is really more between a Fine and Medium so it does well for people with big handwriting like you and me 😊 I’d love to know where you sell the inks and pens that don’t end up working for you. My local pen shop has a swap area that is also a fantastic way to pass things on that I may use. Really enjoy your content because it IS chatty and longer. I don’t like quick content as much so thanks!

You got me hooked onto twsbi. I bought 1 Eco, then another 1 two weeks later because I loved it so much. I just bought a third twsbi, but this time the diamond in smoke rose colour. It is Gorgeous! I know some people say the twsbis look ugly, but I dont find so. I love the look. And I love being able to see the ink inside. it's so satisfying to me. I haven't seen any benu for sale over here (not in US) and shipping from overseas is often a problem, but I'd definitely try one if I come across it. I currently have 3 inks, pilot iroshizuku tsukiyo, diamine writers blood, and kwz cappuccino. The pilot and diamine are definitely my favourite so far.

Thanks for sharing your collection with us! You have some lovely pens. I have not tried Twsbi, but I do have a couple Benus that I purchased about half price. I feel that they were definitely worth the price. Purple is one of my favorite colors. I've especially been loving Troublemaker Foxglove, Diamine Shimmertastic Lilac Satin, and a mix of inks I call Faux Dark Lilac. I'm currently on the hunt for a light purple ink with shimmer. I have been using Diamine Memory Lane this year. It's not what I'm looking for but I will use it till it's gone. I enjoyed my time with you this morning. It's warmer here in NP today, 10° or so. Still cold enough for seasonal favorites of peppermint cocoa or St. Nickerdoodle coffee. 😋

I think you would feel a difference in writing experience with a gold nib pen…especially the Pilot gold nibs. I’ve been resisting the Vanishing Point/Decimo for so many years. But I tried it this year and I LOVE it! I do love my TWSBI pens too, but there really isn’t anything quite like Pilot gold nibs. I prefer the standard nibs vs their flex ones (not avail on VP/Decimo). Speaking of…if you have smaller hands, you might prefer the Decimo over the VP…same nib, just a slightly slimmer pen. (Cheaper too)

I think matching inks to pens is actually pretty common. I do it too, and I know a lot of other people do, as well. For your bespoke pen, Sailor Seiboku would match the bluish sparkles, and it's pretty dry. But if you're looking specifically to match the base color, J. Herbin inks are usually pretty dry -- you might try Gris Nuage by them. Callifolio Gris de Payne might also work -- or another Callifolio gray, most of their inks are pretty dry, too. If you go to a pen show, Pilot shows up at most of the big ones and lets people test their pens. I think the 823 writes better than the TWSBI's, though I love TWSBI's too. And you might not get *that* much more enjoyment out of it, especially because you don't like the look of them. The pilot nibs I like the best are those on the Falcon, though, but that has a pretty standard look, too. I don't like the Vanishing Point. I feel like the nib is tiny, and not as smooth as on most Pilots. The clip also gets in the way of my grip, and I feel like the filling system is so complicated it would be exhausting long-term. But your mileage may vary.

Also new to fountain pens. I do tend to like writing very small and I like dark but very fine so I’m thinking maybe I need to try out the sailor pens. I also kind of like a decent amount of feedback. If it’s too smooth my handwriting gets messy. I had a hong Dion pen that I really liked but it would dry out quickly if I didn’t use it often enough. I have the twsbi 580 now and aesthetically I like it far more but it may be too wet for my liking. But also NEVER goes dry. As far as inks go I tend to like archival inks for journaling so I use de atrementis. But aesthically my favorite ink is Apache sunset from noodlers. You’d hate it 😂. Well, I don't know if you will remember any of my comments of late. I've never journaled as much as I have since I found you. Not nearly. I did share the story of how I found an old fountain pen and had never used it for the 15 years it's been just going drawer to drawer, until recently I did put ink in it and it automatically became my favorite pen. I asked for a suggestion of my first time buying a fountain pen and I wanted it to be slim. Someone replied to me about the Lamy Safari so that is what I have still in a box that I'll open on Christmas. I realize in this video you are not a fan so I can only cross my fingers. At some point I will try one of the Twsbi pens that you like so much. This being said, I haven't tried any inks save for the old Parker cartridges that came with that old pen I just mentioned. As for tea, I like a breakfast tea or earl grey, with honey and French vanilla creamer by Califia (plant based). I'm so glad you mentioned where you got your little desk friends as I had admired them. Thank you for all you do! It's a pleasure following you. ~Rachelle in Maine

Recently visited a Korean book store and find a fine point nib fountain pen. Got it o try it and i love the feel when you write. I always love pens, but never really tried the fountain pens because they scared me 😂. Thanks to your channel I’m learning more, including the correct terms and new products used in this community.

Just invested in a Benu Talisman, I love it. I think I'll only ever spend a lot on a pen if it really speaks to me, for the same reasons you mention.

ooooh!! SO happy to hear you love your Benu! Yeah, they're such fun pens! I always think of them as "magic writing wands." 😅🪄

I haven’t used a Pelikan but the Custom 823 is by far better than any TWSBI! The 14k nib is a large smooth #15 & lives up to the hype. I ffwd through your video in certain parts but I do not recall seeing a gold nib pen. If you haven’t tried one yet then you’re due. The writing experience is quite different from a TWSBI (& I own a few of those).

I have a TWSBI eco caffe bronze inked with Kaweco caramel brown and like it so much I've ordered another one; this time a TWSBI diamond 580 white/rose gold. My fav coffee is French roast with Italian sweet cream. Thank you for sharing this informative video of your favorite pens and inks, and also your generosity in the giveaway! I'd love the opportunity to win.

New subbie hear! I love all the things stationary and you! Your awesome! I've had an interest in fountain pens but have yet to buy one! Lol oh and I'm a coffee and cream girly. Plain.

Pilot, Pelikan, Sailor make their own nibs. So the e xxx percance Will be different for each brand. It's not like you're buying another Jowo or Schmidt nib.

Love love this video!! Birmingham Ink Tiger Lily would look gorgeous in your Estebrook Honeycomb! Ooohhhh I would adore a pen! Im only a month into my fountain pen journey but I really love Birmingham Inks. I love the shades in writers blood, so that’s on my next buy list now😅 (Right after one of those leather pen holders)I’m a huge coffee fan with heavy cream and skinny syrups- right now peppermint mocha lol

You have to write with your Esterbrooks Estie. They are very comfortable pens to journal with. Pelikans are very wet writers. I only own a M200. I ve heard M800 are the sweet spot. Just expensive for pocket book. The Pilot vanishing point is a nice pen. I personally didnt like the clip at the nib end, it takes getting used to. The Pilots are very nice writers in general. I have both an Custom 823 and 743. They both write great, but the 823 downside is cleaning it.

My entry for the giveaway: my favorite ink brand has changed since I started in this hobby. It went from J. herbin (too dry 😢) to Diamine (❤) to now Pilot Iroshizuku (wetter inks ❤❤). As for my favorite color, that would be brown. Hands down. You’re the one that put me on to Noodlers when I just started in this hobby & was looking for a black ink. Your test of the blackest blacks led to me purchase a Bad Black moccasin & that has been a staple since. But I do love my browns more & so I did snag a Noodlers walnut around the same time. I do have other variations of browns (& recently oranges) in my pens constantly so as you may guess, I don’t have a whole lot of inks or color variations.

this might not qualify me to enter the giveaway... but I don't like coffee and I am a COMPLETE newbie who has never hada fountain pen and is scared to commit due to the price. But I can definitely list my favorite pens in general. As a lefty, I get very picky. Luckily though, I don't write fast enough where my hand smudges the ink while I use these pens. My top favorite is the Uniball One F pen! It's great for my Hobonichi weeks. For other heavier gel options, the classic Pilot G-2 in 1.0mm. And the Uniball Vision Elite. It's inky and I need to choose my paper wisely haha!

I am interested and am brand new and have no recommendation’s! 😬 My cuppa at the moment is coffee with just a dash of sugar and a splash of chocolate/caramel creamer. Which is fancy for me because I am capable of drinking it black? A very unpopular opinion perhaps 🤔 but I once consumed coffee at an alarming rate and didn’t want the extra calories of the sugar and cream and learned to like it black? It has to be good coffee for me to drink it black though, I became a severe coffee snob once I started drinking it black? 🤔 And after that tangent, thank you SO much for the chance! You are too kind! 💕

Oooh I can’t wait to see what pen is in there… i opt out of this giveaway 😊 but it is much appreciated! However, my favorite ink is diamine polar glow. My favorite cuppa is coffee. Light to medium roast w cinnamon 😊.

Beautiful pens 🖊for a lovely lady 👧I have one Pink Hello Kitty Kaweco that takes cartilages and is clogged but this inspired me to check out how to get it clean it out and make it a goal to use it in 2025. Yes, the Heart of Darkness has been one of your long time favorites and I would like to give it a try as well. I would love to win the giveaway but I would also love to buy the Little Black Witch Kaweco from you should you decide to ever part with it. Lots of love always our sweet friend 💕🌹🎄💌✍

Hello, new follower here! I like Robert Oster too, I would recommend Sydney Darling Harbour for a calm green, Australis Rose (pink-brownish) and Grey Seas (moody blue grey) from this brand :) My other favorite inks are Diamine Amazing Amethyst (dusty violet), Lamy Turmaline (teal with nice shading), Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-Budo (reddish purple), Kaweco Ruby red, Monteverde Rose Noir (dusty purple with nice shading) and Kobe Maiko-West Pearl blue (dusty teal). Hope those inspire someone :)

Oooh i loved your video so much. I also have the twsbi eco but then in rosegold cream, it write heavenly 🎉 i also have the pilot prera m nib. Also a smooth fountain pen. I am not familiar with a lot of inks because i am still newby. My first pen was an kaweco and I bought cartridges. For my twsbi i bought Rohrer & Klingner a bit of an wet ink but not expensive. Just to try. The color is Verdigras. Very beautiful dark blue color. Depends on the paper how the color comes up. I like to participate for the giveaway. 🎉 so kind of you. Oh and i e-mail Moleskin Holland for you and they said that there was an year that the paper quality was bad. So maybe that is why there is better papers now. Whoop….long answer. ❤🎉😊 see you in the next video.

TFS your thoughts & collections. 🖋 I've been using fountain pens since I was in elementary school bc my grandparents introduced me to them. I wish I could've inherited at least one of theirs. I have many fave inks but mostly love using the blue blacks or black mixes for everyday use. Same w/coffee & tea. My treat coffee is usually iced vietnamese or ☕ Fave teas are black coconut, chai or Moroccan mint 🍵

The TWSBI 580 isn’t made of glass. It & the Eco are injection molded clear acrylic.

Entry: I have a pilot Metropolitan and use noodlers black ink...coffee with pumpkin spice cream :) Thanks!
@Ari-zf3dk7 күн бұрын
The 580 is still a plastic pen I believe, just a thicker plastic than the eco? I'm not actually certain there exists any glass fountain pens. Though with how people are, there's always a chance. (I can't believe you managed to got the yukitsubaki! that's actually discontinued so it's rare to fine. I'm a fiend for those pens. The nib and the feedback is exactly what I want from a writing experience)
