The “sap”/honeydew being secreted from your Hoya Macrophylla is called ‘Guttation’. Hoyas in particular are prone to doing this but many other kinds of plants do it as well. (My Philo Florida Green does this constantly and I even found an ant that got in my house clinging to the petiole and feeding on the sap once) and that’s actually precisely why the plants do it is to feed insects oddly enough. It’s a type of symbiotic relationship between the plants and a whole host of predatory insects such as ants and predatory wasps. The plants release the sweet sap as food for these insects and to attract them and keep them around the plant because they will also kill and eat any pest insects that would potentially damage or kill the plant. Pretty cool in my opinion although the stickiness is quite annoying when repotting, cleaning the plants leaves, etc. 🪴🍬🐜 hope this helps ☺️

Your lacunosa is definitely 'royal flush' 😍😍😍 royal flush has purple stems and purple/dark new growth! Snow caps stems are green but can sunstress to a reddish color (as well as the new growth) but they aren't that dark purple color like royal flush is! My royal flush and snow cap lacunosa are probably my two most prized hoyas! Your royal flush is stunning!

I love all your Hoyas. I’ve got about ten. Right now my Hoya bella is struggling. After I moved it out of my west facing window it started losing leaves. It’s under a grow light now and it’s still losing leaves. Next I’m think of transplanting it S the soil is packed down and hard. Stays moist too. I’m just not sure what to do. Any ideas?
@dena99682 жыл бұрын
The little clear droplets you see on stems are called floral/flora nectarines. It is harmless, it’s very common especially in the philodendron family. Sometimes you will even see it on the foliage. 💛💚🧡
@sonjablade39762 жыл бұрын
You’re correct you can figure it out by touching it. If it’s sticky then it’s nectarines. There is a chance it could be guttation but that’s usually on the leaves themselves and that’s your plants way of sweating out excess water. Good luck your Hoyas are Beautiful.
@houseplusplant2 жыл бұрын
It’s 100% sticky and dries into sugar crystals! So good to know, thank you! I thought that may be in and from what I read some thing it stimulates growth along the vine-not sure if there’s any science to that though.
@dena99682 жыл бұрын
@@houseplusplant There is some science behind it. Basically your plant produces the nectarines to attract ants so ants can attack the pest. This does not mean you have pests though….it’s a sign of the growing season, or your plant is going through a growth spurt. Glad I could help! Happy Growing 💛💚🧡
@brooklin_bernek2 жыл бұрын

@@houseplusplant It's been awhile since you've talked about this. I've had them on my Hoya Macrophylla for a long time but now they are all over the blooms to the point that I never get a full flower because the sap doesn't allow the petals to fully open. Does this happen to you too? If so, is there anything you can do to prevent it?

Could those crystal droplets be mineral salts. Do you use tap water. Usually that can cause them. Or it could be fertilizer salts if you fertilizer too much. Just my thought. I can do some research if those wouldn’t be the problem.
