I just recently learned about why seaplanes have a step in their hulls and it looks like that Thai riverboat has it as well. When a boat or plane accelerates through water the front end lifts and the rear get pushed down with increases hydrodynamic drag. This drag makes it difficult for planes to gain enough speed to take off so there is a step in the hull that the plane can pitch forward on and ride on and since there is less surface area there is less drag and more speed. I think when these riverboats dig the propeller deeper into the water it pushes the rear of the boat up and then you only have two smaller points where the hull is contacting the water and it can gain speed. That has got to feel sketchy as hell since you are basically a giant skipping stone
@mytube9182 Жыл бұрын
Those water plants are invasive species. They're actually from Java, Indonesia. Just around 150 years back one of our princes had them in his palace ponds for decoration. But to his unawareness Thailand's occasional great flood in Bangkok had set loose these invasive plants into our canals and rivers. They spread all over central region of Thailand till today. Our ecosystem had perfectly adapted to welcome them. But our original visuals of freshwaters had gone forever.

I remember going on a tour to the bridge over the river Kwai back in 2004, there was 2 boat loads of us and the guys appeared to b dragging each other down the river with the tourists in the boats. I remember turning to my mate and asking him how fast he reckons we were going. It seriously felt like 200km/ph. Its only now I realised that we were probably on one of these part time drag boats. I've never seen one again until I seen this vid and always questioned myself if my memory was right until now.

Your first few videos on these made me want to build a spiced up longtail like these. I finally built one last summer. Used a 75hp two stroke jetski engine, a 100” long tail; and put it on a 14ft jon boat. It’s certainly not as fast as these, but it goes much faster than my boat was meant for🤣. I’d love to ride in one of these. One day I’m going to build a 13b rotary one. Great video as always!

That Black Label Whisky will goes a long way in term of friendship. As for the Euro girls, their number continue to increase year after year and yes, i do find them interesting also. now for the boat, i think a long tail design needed some modernization to align with new tech/ innovation. improvements on aeros and build materials could be ground breaking upgrades that increase speed, stability, drivability, safety and overall experience.

Camera seems an ideal choice for this activity. That side on shot would be like a scfi-film if not for the wind flexing the boom. That dancing the boat does, makes sense at high speed - it gets air pockets out from under the boat, so you don't end up with a high pressure zone flipping it - Compare Donald Campbells Bluebird, to Ken Warby's Spirit of Australia - There a reason Warby was the last man to take the waterspeed record and survive it, his boat also rocks side to side...
