Klättermusen is neither German, nor Austrian, but a Swedish brand. And yes, the direct translation would be "climbing mouse". The hatchet, from FISKARS, is a Finnish brand.

Using gear that you have (or receive) is more ethical than not using it and buying ethical gear instead ;)
@beetooex4 ай бұрын
I reckon the most sustainable outdoor gear is army surplus since it's already been manufactured and used. It's half the price of equivalent civvie gear in 'as new' condition. Much cheaper if you don't mind some obvious wear. There's always options in browns or greens if like me you don't like cammo. My picks are; Austrian army goretex waterproofs, Dutch army softshell fleece and British army base layers.
@jackmorris49514 ай бұрын
that sounds like a fantastic option mate, do you know any websites that are good to look on for army surplus gear? cheers
@beetooex4 ай бұрын
@@jackmorris4951I've shopped at a fair few but my two favourites are 'Surplus and Outdoors' and 'Forces uniform and kit' FU&K has a dedicated 'distressed' range where you can get some very good deals if you don't mind what it looks like but I usually go for 'Grade 1' since it's still pretty cheap. Just remember that military gear always prioritises toughness over low bulk and weight. It doesn't really matter with clothes but sleeping bags/mats, tents and backpacks are big and heavy Vs quality civvie gear. No brand Chinese gear or cheap high street crap has it's place if you know exactly what you need from an item eg The £5 CCF sleep mat from 'The Range' (put it under your decent mat) or the BRS-3000t gas stove (boiling water only). It's easy to become a gear nerd lol.

well I wrote you a long detailed reply but it got deleted because I used the word cr@p in it. Thanks KZbin. Basically my two favourites are 'Forces uniform and kit' & 'Surplus and Outdoors'

You can repair fallen arches with foot strengthening exercises!! I had to do this myself and it helped me dramatically! The transition was gradual over time to build the strength not only in my ankles but also my feet! It’s doable in a sustainable way and a lot of them you can do at home and for little to no cost at all!!

I heard from an insider that Patagonia has refused to go transparent about their carbon dioxide foot print and they don't meet some kind of standard or something. Since then I don't praise the brand so much about what they do like I used to. I just thought.. okay they are business after all.. I'm just saying. I have no problem anyone using brands that fit their circumstances and I still do love their 'mend your things and use them for your life' narrative so much... But are there that many people tell you about what you wear is ethical or unethical?? I'm surprised how people on the internet wouldn't let one thing go. hmmm.. OH GREAT VIDEO. I design menswear and outdoorsy items too but I haven't seen the color schemes you are wearing so often so it was refreshing ! (It's very Irish color scheme I thought...😅and it suit you so well ! I love it. )

Also looking forward to all future videos! Also also, I don’t think your videos are too long; I think the 20 to 30 minute range is perfect. 🤘

Great video! Living in the contradictions of capitalism is exhausting. Corporations aren't going to save us, we shouldn't be putting so much stock in being perfect consumers in terms of brands (targeted boycotts aside). What we are much more able to do is focus on the things we can control like reducing our consumption and overall impact, recycling and buying used and recycled items, and sharing/community programs.

The problem i personally have with Patagonia is that a very big group of people who wear it are just people with money who are the opposite of good for the environment. Techbro vibes. Bit like a wearable Tesla. And that's such a shame and i feel like it's something that needs to be addressed by the "real" users. I also feel that's the main reason why it's so ridiculously expensive, because it is used as a wealth signifier by people who when it really came down to it don't care about the environment, and sit in an office most of the time. Same problem i see with many workwear brands. But yeah, that's just my point of view on it, and i live in the Netherlands, can't speak for other places ofc.
@rubenskiii4 ай бұрын
And obviously the brand can't vet everyone (and i honestly don't think we would want that as a society) but they surely can see the trend and react to it. Idk, make it uncool for posers to wear Patagonia or something. I don't hold it against them that some people wear it to look "green" but it's their image, their believability. People don't see the factories, designers and stuff. They see the customers. If they become a meme because of this it can have bad impact on them i think. And if they have done something against that that would be cool!
