Hi Lynnie! This has got to be one of my favourite moments in life! Hearing my cacti and succulent role model say my name! I kid you not, my heart was racing with joy! Hahaha. Thank you so much for the shout out! I'm so touched by your kindness and really appreciate it Lynn . Your collection of Euphorbias is out of this world! Gosh, it's like being at a Euphorbia museum. Incredible! The Euphorbias that were around 25 years are spectacular! There's something that only age can do to succulents that elevates their beauty. The Euphorbia Baioensis looks gorgeous especially with the backlighting. The Euphorbia from Nelly is so unique and the E. Obesas have just raised The I could seriously go on with no end about the many beauties I saw, because there are so many in your collection. And so diverse! Euphorbias are one of my favourite genus and this was beyond words, it was an experience! Thank you once again for this wonderful video and the shout out Lynn, i truly appreciate it. From the garden city of India to the Emerald Isle, may you and Hans have a fantastic Sunday! Cheerio Lynnie!!!

Love your cactus wind succulents you really got me addicted to them. For your air plant do you soak them once a week in water for 30 minutes are do you just mist them. I have bought two and scared to loose them. I put them under. Grow light and I soak them once a week for 30 to 30 minutes but not sure if I’m doing the right thing.
@desertplantsofavalon5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Diane so happy you love Airplants too they are incredible plants and so unique :-D I give all of mine a good thorough soaking with rainwater every other day with the water spray, I soak them until the water drips off them, but you can also soak them in water for 30 minutes once a week too and that is a brilliant way to keep them hydrated, I would prefer to soak them once a week in water too but because I have a lot all hanging up its more convenient for me to give them a good soak with the water spray every other day, but both methods work very well and it sounds like you are doing everything perfect for your new Airplants, and they love the grow lights too

Beautiful collection. One of the things I love about both cacti and euphorbia is they can be so varied in appearance even within the same type sometimes. I only have one euphorbia (meloformis) I misidentified as a cactus when I got it. I normally avoid euphorbia as much as I like them because I have a cat and even though he's good and ignores the plants (except spider plants which I've had to move to hanging baskets out of his reach) I still worry about the sap, but until ...well to be honest just now lol, I actually thought euphorbia was a a genus of cactus like ceres, astrophytum etc so thankyou for teaching me they aren't . 🙂
@desertplantsofavalon2 жыл бұрын
So happy you love the collection :-D and so many people think Euphorbia is part of the Cactus group as so many Euphorbia look so very much like a cactus, and a lot of them are sold as Cacti due to their appearance, LOL! at your cat with the Spider plants, we have our spider plants hanging out in our front garden for the Spring and Summer, and our neighbours cat always loves to enjoy a nibble on them haha, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Friday XXXX

Loved, loved, loved the video. Im love seeing your cactus collections, there is always so much to learn and so many beautiful things to see. What is the top dressing you are using in this video, it really enhances the color of the cactus.
@desertplantsofavalon4 жыл бұрын
So happy you loved the video and the collection Debra :-D the top dressing is a special 100% molar clay and a brand of cat litter called Sanicat, its 100% molar clay and non clumping and is a great grit alternative as it keeps the top of the soil dry and adds a nice touch to the top of the soil, and its great o use as a grit alternative in the soil too as it much lighter than grit, here is a link to a Blog I have wrote on my website where I talk about this special brand of cat litter: I think that other brands in other countries would work the same too as long as the cat litter is 100% molar clay and non clumping : desertplantsofavalon.com/uncategorized/how-to-use-sanicat-sophisticat-cat-litter-made-of-molar-clay-as-a-soil-addition-for-cacti-and-succulent-plants/ thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a terrific Thursday XXXX

What a beautiful Euphorbia collection Lyn! Thanks for the video! May I ask please, does your poinsietta flower with the grow light on? Because we had an enormous one in our front garden and used to flower every year, then they fixed a big pole with lights exactly near our wall and stopped flowering. I was told that the poinsietta want both light time and dark time to flower!!! Hope you Lyn and Hans will have a wonderful afternoon!
@desertplantsofavalon3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sylvia :-D yes we have our Poinsettia in the house under the grow light and it flowers for us every year, we only have the grow light on for the exact same hours that it would be outside, as any extra lights on after the normal day light time would stop them from flowering, I think the pole with the lights on is making your Poinsettia think it is a longer day and stopping it from flowering, what you could do is cover your Poinsettia with a dark cover when the Pole light comes on, and then remove it when the pole light goes off, this should help to make your Poinsettia bloom again for you, thanks so much for your wonderful comments and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to Malta for a brilliant afternoon XXXX

Since we’re both in the northern hemisphere. What do you suggest for care of euphorbia over the winter months? Do you continue to give them the light they’d get in the summer and growing months? Mine are just in a north facing window during winter and get as much natural light as possible. But they could use more. Who knows.
@desertplantsofavalon2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joshua :-D the good news is with Euphorbia as long as they have light in Winter time and are kept at a minimum of 10c /50F they will overwinter perfect in a north facing window without any sunshine, as long as you move them to a sunnier position in Spring and Summer they can overwinter in a sunless window for Winter with no problems, when you move them to a sunnier position in Spring its best to let them acclimatise slowly to the higher light and sun levels, I cover mine loosely with a shade cloth for the first few days when I move them outside in the Spring, just to prevent the possibility of sun scorch, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Friday XXXXX

Nice. I have drosera binata and capensis and the white version of capensis as well as pitcher plant, sarracenia x wrigleyana and two vft’s. I was thinking of doing a terrarium to put them together but I’ve been told they don’t like humidity and need dormancy period. What would you suggest as an alternative?
@desertplantsofavalon3 жыл бұрын
Hi Johno :-D Carnivorous plants grow well in Terrariums as they love the high humidity, its best to keep the Nepenthes pitcher plants separate as they don't have a winter dormancy like the other carnivorous plants do and Nepenthes like higher winter temperatures as they are tropical, but the Venus fly traps and sundews and Sarracenias can all go together, they will grow well in a Terrarium if you can give the Terrarium a cool and wet overwintering at a temp of 5c / 41F and a warm sunny and wet Spring and Summer, rainwater and high humidity but with ventilation is great for thee plants, thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful plant powered Tuesday XXXXX
@johno33263 жыл бұрын
@@desertplantsofavalon thanks. I keep them in a tray in their original pots, surrounded by pea shingle, the sarracenia is separate in bowl in the same environment. They are all situated in my conservatory/greenhouse which faces east. They are all thriving. I just wanted to put them all together in, for example, a terrarium. If I put them in one, how would I keep them watered? And would they still be able to catch flies?

@@johno3326 Hi Johno :-D yes they will still be able to eat flies if you keep the Terrarium open without a closed lid, an open Terrarium is a must because its best to provide plenty of ventilation and flies will be able to fly in, you can water from the top of the Terrarium and if you provide plenty of moss inside the Terrarium it will help to keep the humidity high for them, XXXXX

Is there any way to encourage Euphorbia ingens/trigona to branch? Amazing collection! 😍
@desertplantsofavalon9 ай бұрын
So happy you love the collection, yes pruning off the top part of the Euphorbia will encourage them to side shoot new branches, I have pruned the tops off some of my Euphorbias in the past and they side shoot new branches over time, cutting them back a few inches from the top will encourage branching, its best to protect your hands when pruning them with gloves as Euphorbias give off a milky sap that can be irritating to the skin, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and wishing you a fantastic plant powered new week XXXX

Why is that happening, because of my watering schedule or stress or something else I need to know if that is normal, or not to be expected. Please give me your advice. Thx

Help! My neighbor gave me a tubular euphoria. Don’t know it’s exact name. She gave it to me in a plastic bag with its wet dirt. It looked like it had either root rot or watered to much. It was yellow not green! I immediately cut it away from the root and in half, since it had a brown spot in the middle. I put the ends in root hormone growth powder. Will let the ends crust over. Have read to let it rest for at least 2-3 weeks before I plant it. Can it be saved?

Since when i bought it n put it outside it started to suffer, so i put it in a bigger jar, but nothing particular happened..maybe it doesn't want to stay under the sun light? N even doesn't want to feel the hot wind ? Do you think it would be better to put iit inside my home next to a window where it can takes sunlight but not so directly!? What about the water? Pls help me i didn't find anything on internet n i dont want to make it die!! Thank you!!!

Hi Carlo, I think it may be best to move it inside the house where it can get some sunshine but not all day sunshine, some Euphorbias like more sun than others but many prefer a few hours of direct sunshine but not all day sunshine, I find that my Euphorbias like a little bit more shade than some of my Desert cacti do, I would water your Euphorbia every time the soil in the pot has totally dried out during the spring and Summer, but no water during the Winter time, I hope this helps, thanks so much for watching and have a wonderful Monday today XXXX
