My Everest Base Camp & Island Peak Gear List (Pre Trip)

I'm off to climb Island Peak in Nepal!
I've done plenty of research and preparation and I'd like to share some of what I've learnt. This video goes over all the equipment I'm taking with me to Nepal, what I am choosing to hire over there, and my thoughts behind each decision.
Having never trekked in Nepal before, this video shows my perspective before I gain firsthand experience - which will be interesting to see what I get right, and what I get wrong.

Thanks a lot mate for your review of Island Peak expedition, it was very helpful! Your words "higher camps are full of viruses" couldnt be more true, so i suggest to everyone that wants to go high in Nepal, bring lots of flu medicine, diarrhoea prevention and zinc....

I had an Osprey too for my Annnapurna Thorong-La Pass trip. And a porter to carry my duffel bag. Recently I’ve got a Talon 33 to get me to Thailand on lightweight travel. The next time I return to Nepal again I’ll go more lightweight and save more $ after learning some experience. Good review 😊

Great video! Thanks! I am going to Mera Peak this autumn. Whats Your opinion about Rab Borealis softshell jacket? I have bought one last week and wonder if it is not to light for 6000m? Should I change for bit thicker like Rab Torque? I will be very thankfull for Your opinion. Thank You😊

Hey mate. I use the Rab Borealis as a lightweight climbing shell for when it isn’t too cold and isn’t raining or snowing. When I climbed Island peak I used a Goretex outer shell instead of the softshell.

For EBC in September, what combination of water bottles and hydration bag do you suggest? Wondering whether to carry thermal bottles forbwarm water or not for the hike itself rather than at nights only.

The ones you carried don't fit very well on the side pockets of the bag, did you put them inside your day bag?

I used a hydration bladder along with a 1.5L bottle. I also like the small 400ml Nalgenes to shove in pockets. I took a variety because I was also expedition climbing. 1 bladder and 1 bottle will be all you’d need.
