Hard to understate the importance of the Garmin InReach. I had to use mine this July in Yellowstone when my car broke down outta service between Madison jct and Norris basin. Within minutes my Garmin got me in touch with loved ones to contact the park to send a tow. Even got to enjoy a roadside beer or two watching sunset waiting on the park tow. (Don’t assume someone will stop to help just because your in a NP. I watched hundreds of cars drive for 20 minutes without anyone stopping. Eventually an off duty radio operator pulled over to ask if I needed help and we got to hear the park dispatch relay my Garmin msg id sent to my mom earlier)

Hey brother, I’ve been watching you for a while now and don’t really comment much but, today I thought it was necessary. Don’t sell yourself short on comparing yourself with other big KZbinrs, because brother, running your channel the way you’ve been running it is better quality and much entertaining than some of those bigger channels! And it’s not that I’m knocking any of them by any means. . . But come on, you’re doing this almost all by yourself about 90% of the time. The content that you’re putting out is freaking awesome! 🙌🏼 I love today’s episode, it was very helpful and informative. Thanks for the helpful tips on every topic! 🤙🏼 Tight lines, ~ Manny ~ 👊🏼

Agree on the day pack stuff. I've started designing my own stuff and hopefully will be trying to make my own backpack because every brand seems to miss the ball. I've tried Simms, orvis, fishpond and none fit the calling. I use osprey bags for the most part. I love the grayl bottle. Works great and easy to change filters when needed

Building out your own kit seems to be the best for those of us getting a bit outside the normal parking lot excursion.. When you have that new bag drafted up send me one to stress test!

I just want to say, thank you, thank you. I thoroughly enjoy watching and salivating over all your videos, and destinations, which reminds me of fond memories exploring riparian creeks deep in the back country in perceivable forever ongoing wilderness. This was long before the age digital age of PLB,'s internet and smart phones. I was in my prime, 20's, invincible, winkled map, compass, iodine, first and a a few core provisions on external frame pack. Never a worry crossed my mind trekking across unknown territory with desire and ambition. It was a carefree, pure, super stellar time in my life. I share your freeform and uninhibited pursuit, passion and enthusiasm. I must admit, I live a little vicariously through your adventures. Keep getting your adventure on every chance you can! Recon, Release & Remember!

@@FLYALLSZN Peace! I had a old brick of a rod, it was like throwing a rope attached to rebar "Wonderrod". I would fish in Tevas, socks, and canvas backpack, bushing wracking around with tights and bandana on my head, I was quite a rambling wild child angler. These were some grand o ridiculous days indeed!

I agree on the fly fishing backpacks. I want a backpack with a great hip belt but kind of like a minimal vest on the front straps. It should Hold one or two fly boxes, dry shake, tippet and such. I bought an REI bag this summer and it marginally works. I have an old Gregory backpacking bag that could be used on really long trips but it is like 6000 cubic inches. I used it on 8 day backpacking trips.

Thanks for the info. I do solo trips a lot as well and presently looking for a better bag as well as essential gear for those times things don’t work out as planned. I watched some of the other vids and was curious what you were using luckily you’ve covered the questions I had. Appreciate it.

Morning Mike, on average what are your GoPro underwater settings? You do a great job on your video audio, always great. Videos settings always clear. Production and editing outstanding. As a rule if I’m not captured in the first 15 seconds of a video. I simply move to another channel just because of its production equities. “I don’t know how you do it, it’s your calling.” Also love how you give us hints on each fishing location like road signs, trail signs and so on. 🎥🎞🎙✌🏻👊🏻

I think I just use the stock settings for the GoPro! I try not to mess with it much and just use it for what it is (as dumb as that may seem) I really appreciate that! I feel the same way about most videos so I try to make something that I would be able to sit down and stomach myself..

Your first video of the Kuiu pack, convinced me to get a hunting bag. Mystery ranch scree. I love it. Not super high end but it’s functional, durable, lots of room and distributes weight very well. Not bad for $150

A firearm is a tool. As of right now I do not have the time needed to get comfortable and proficient with it. I have personally used bear spray and have seen its affects (even at close range). It takes little to no skill to use in a high pressure situation and is extremely cheap and light in comparison. Everyone thinks they have a plan until they get punched in the face. Plus with how far I go I tend to not see too many two legged critters.

@@FLYALLSZN Dude I was never a believer in the "dorky" sternum straps but holy crap are they comfortable. Add that with padded hip straps and you can carry 10 pounds more gear but still feel lighter than a sling or waist pack. So it's a little more work to get stuff out, but I consider that a fair trade for all day comfort and saving my back.
