This is the best house I’ve ever seen for the “before” in this show. It looks much better than most other houses’ “afters”. I would buy it even in the condition it is immediately. I am blown away.

It is called a mudroom because it takes all the dirt from the outside so it won't come into the rest of the house. Carpet is a no no. They should have put in tiles that are easy to clean. The rest of the finishing touches are great.

Should have put either vinyl planking floor in the sunroom, or laminate floors. Pale carpeting is going to quickly get filthy, wet, and moldy, and require constant cleaning. However, the house is beautiful. I'm surprised the owner couldn't see for herself how the shabby, run-down exterior would turn people right off.

Her house was much nicer than the 1st sample one they looked thru. Definitely agree about the need to improve the front porch and fix the back sunroom. Other than that .. the owner had a really great house and had done great work on the inside. I would have bought without the changes but definitely like the fixed.

Glad they finally did some work on the exterior of a house. Wouldn't have taken much more to paint the second floor front of the Dutch Colonial Style house. That would have taken the house from the 70's to the 2000's.

Didn't know that, it just looked like a cyclops at first glance to me. I used to be in a house like that when I was going to college, it was built in 1928. Of course it had a lot of issues, one so called bedroom felt like an ice box (barely bigger than this mudroom) with dirty flooring and the spider web infested covered stairwell down to the equally creepy basement scared me, I didn't like having go down there for laundry. Also it was one of those split level basements so a wall of dirt was visible through a busted up cheap wall in that basement. More of the creepy "I buried bodies in here" type of vibe.

Although there was no way to know it at the time, that simple home, in today's market in Toronto, would be over $1M. It's too bad she couldn't hold onto it a little longer. I do hope she purchased another piece of real estate, even if only a small condo, because it's very difficult to get back into the housing market if you are a renter. It's out of reach for most people. :(

Imagine if HGTV gave you a list of where to buy everything they used, along with product names, paint color names and brands, etc. They would move fortune of merchandise for their advertisers and could charge a premium. I've never understood why these shows don't come with a buyer's guide. I am looking at the drapes and wondering where they got them for $170, which seems quite reasonable. I just looked at some similar drapes that cost the same for a single panel.

Hahahaha! Bless your heart. Not unless you are renting a luxury unit in a very desirable area then buy a modest home in a less desirable neighborhood. Even then, if you need a new roof, landscaping, exterior painting, whatever, you are the one who pays for it all. My last water heater cost me $1200 due to requirements for earthquake safety here in Washington state. I am now renting in a building with decent amenities including a washer and dryer in my apartment. My electric bill is very low $25-$40 a month, and my water, including hot water, is included in my rent. But I surely would love a house in Bella Italia! Enjoy to the max!

These days is no difference between own and rent. If you are an owner, you spend less on monthly costs but huge on maintanance and if you rent it’s vice versa. We calculate it many times for 5, 10 and even 20 years time frame, it’s no difference. If you don’t have children, it makes no sence to buy.

Cost me a lot more to pay for and adequately maintain my house than rent an apartment in a secure building with nice amenities, including a balcony and washer and dryer in the unit. Same. I bought a new sofa. Everything else is passed down from family members, or bought at antique and thrift shops, often redone by me to upcycle it.
