Hi! New subbie from Tampa Florida 🌴… I really like your channel.. open and honest… I was stationed in Crete in the 80s… have traveled back to Greece & Crete many times. I’d give anything to be able to move back. I’m not Greek, but my life was peaceful. America is a hot mess now. I’ll keep looking for a way to take my pets and get outta here🥰…I’ll sell my house and move there🙂 because I want my life back. Thanks for giving me the inspiration to not give up. Take care.🌴

Thank you so much Lorena!!! ❤️ I hope your dreams to return to Ελλαδα will come true. I know the life in America can be so messy, my family and I lived almost 9 years in Arizona. Next year I am moving to Rhodes island, apparently it is also a spectacular place in Greece to live with enough expats living there to feel like you have an international community!! And over 1 million tourists per year. I wish you the best of luck for your future ahead & hope that our paths in greece will meet one day! 🌿

I would say do it!!! The jump from America to Europe will be a huge change but very rewarding. You’ll have to adopt the mindset of less is more. Slowing down consumerism that America is built off of. But the slower pace living will make you much happier 🩷

Spot on! Greece's beautiful islands and vacation places are for tourists, but actual life there is extremely difficult for foreigners, also for Greeks. I have been in Thessalonica helping my daughter care for grandsons for 6 years. I am originally from the US, married in Austria for 24 years. The people here are, generally speaking, very rude and impolite. Yes, I am constantly being overcharged, cheated in change, cheated by landlords, exactly as this young lady describes. I paid double electric bills for 3 years, because the landlord put the neighboring apartment on my bill. The landlord also wanted to add on extra expenses for what he should have been paying for. 11 taxis passed me by on a Sunday morning after I attended a non-Greek Orthodox Christian service, had a sling on my arm because of a broken shoulder. No one would give me a ride, but when a Greek came, they took them. Men will always push their way first at a store, and have no respect for women. I have been spat upon about half a dozen times, simply when walking down the street! (The is a custom here for people they consider "evil".) Strikes are often. The post office is miserable. People are angry and hateful because of the years of austerity, coupled with covid and the war, but that doesn't give them a right to blame others or to treat them badly because of it. I have rarely ever been refused service in my life, but it has happened on numerous occasions here. I traveled a lot in Europe and the US and I have never experienced anything like this. They say that once one gets into the Balkans, things are even worse. By the way, in order to open a bank account in Thessalonica, they told me I had to pay $10,000, although I am an EU citizen. In the US anyone can open a bank account for $50, or sometimes for even $1. People in the government agencies and hospitals are also equally as rude and simply want to refuse service to "foreigners" while, in contrast to that, hundreds of thousands of Greeks have left to other countries where they earn well and are treated fairly, with respect. I understand this young lady's frustration. Unfortunately it was her first excursion as a young woman out into the "big, wide world".

As a Greek person born in Athens and lived there for all my life I have to agree with everything you said on your video. I had to move to the UK in 2018 and leave my family behind, parents, siblings and friends. There was no future for me in this country, getting paid 544 euros net every month, not able to move out of my parents, counting every penny when going out with friends, not able to buy my own car, start making dreams for a better future. Greece is perfect for holidays and the best place on earth if you can afford to visit islands, enjoy the beautiful weather, beaches, food. It’s a nightmare though if you live there permanently and trying to survive day to day.

I think Crete has a definite better energy of people than the centre of athens, and the old city of Piraeus. Unfortunately people who live in a rat race in dirty run down cities, often lose their sense of compassion and willingness to be decent human beings. I hope you have a wonderful holiday in Greece. It is a beautiful country with much to offer. But as a foreign young female moving here alone, we have to be extra careful as women to not get taken advantage of by some bad apple of Greeks.

Every country has its dark side. Personally, I loved Athens with everything and its graffiti and I have been to other European countries as well as the USA. In Greece I rented a rb&b and it was very good and super clean. What you mention about the toilet paper, in Mexico it is the same system and at least where I was in Miami it is the same too, you throw the papers in a bin. I don't remember if it was the same in France, Spain and the UK, I went there many years ago. And back to Greece, I know people without money who went to live there and at least they are happy. Unfortunately, you had to live on the dark side of the country, adding that starting from scratch anywhere will never be easy. I wish you the best wherever you are.

It is really a huge adjustment leaving a first world country and then coming to Greece, which functions more as a third world country in my opinion with the way things are going and the way the government keeps exploiting people right now. I hope you are able to make the best decision in what you choose to do. It is a beautiful country with a lot of beautiful history, but life here has literally drained people mentally and financially. Of course I am generalizing. But in my option I feel at least 60% of the population feels this way. On another point of view, I do admire village life of the concept of "slow living" and growing your own food and having a peaceful village town to live in. But it is an extremely difficult adjustment for those of us expats that have grown up with foreign mindsets etc. Maybe we should be ok with less stimulation and less distractions as people. I sometimes don't know what is better for us. Anyways thank you for supporting my channel & i wish you the best of luck for whatever you decide to do. America has its own issues, I understand your reasons in wishing to leave. The artificial rat race and poor health care system, its also falling apart as a country in its own way. I think the whole world is going through crisis.

So I was born in Greece. Left for the USA when I was 3. I am now in my late thirties. My parents already have a house in northern part of Greece so I don’t have to worry about housing but I was wondering how much do you need on average to survive? I don’t think I would need a car as most places like the supermarket and pharmacy is within walking distance. How much would you need to survive for one person? Would 1,000 euro a month be enough for one person?

Hello!!! Thank you for your question. Yes, 1,000 euro is most definitely enough to survive as a single person without needing to pay rent. Food & outings are really affordable. Keep your electrical bill low though by not leaving lights or the water heater on unnecessarily because they put heavy tax on electrical bills. If you don’t have to worry about finding a job here, and can have a form of income coming in, then you will be perfectly fine. Hello Kleopatra, if that is your name. I have listened carefully to your video. Honest and real. Thank you. You are brave to move there like you did, but your youthful enthusiasm offsets your innocence. I am not sure if there was a crisis that spurred your move. I am now a bit older, speak Greek fluently and live in an Australian city. I have to move to Greece. I have had enough of this world of progress and trade. My family will sort itself. Have no friends here because everyone works all the time. I suspect I can afford to live in Greece on passive income even if I don’t sell my house. I know I’ll make friends. I have close family there. But to move there the fear is dealing with the … public who only have enough to eat and therefore are looking to steal a euro wherever they can without being too overt. I suppose that is good, otherwise everyone would be there. Greece’s relative poverty protects it from the hoards staying all year.

You better get a guide or a tent, even though this is a special place nature and history wise you should not have many expectations. Plus why in Kipseli that is too central....go to some suburbs..Norths are always more'logical' anywhere in the world..just a purely biochemical reason evolved due to the temperatures mainly..

If they are paying you, they own you. You have a really good idea of what greece is all about work wise. Coming from a Greek with a Polish mother. I have seen both worlds. The north of Europe even colder will actually make you happier. Greece is perfect for 2 weeks of vacation....

You should move here to Wyoming in the United States. It is only the winters that are harsh. Plenty of jobs, low crime and for the most part the police are nice. It is the best place to start a business.

I consider Athens a very different world from the rest of Greece. It's one of Europe's most dangerous cities. If you have discernment you can tell the spirit in Athens is very different than other Greek cities or villages. I would consider visiting Athens again for it's beautiful history but I would never move there.

Agreed 100%.. Athens city is deteriorating badly, BUT that does not include the southern seaside area, the more south you go, the quality of life improves 🙏🩵

It's not in the top 20 for most dangerous cities in Europe so a slight exaggeration from you! I have never felt unsafe there!

@@liszaf3976 yes it's in the top 20 of every list I've found, I even double-checked to make sure my information wasn't outdated. I can't say I felt unsafe there either but I never went out at night. I've also lived in some of the most violent cities in US and so my point was about avoiding unsafe feeling areas because of using street smarts and not being naive. Athens is a magical city.

Well why not using Uber? Application works, but that probably outsources some taxis through Beat, a native Greek application. I lived in Athens, I totally agree with some things said, but being in Bulgaria at the moment I understand Greece was a paradise 😅 I would never go to Kipseli or Patisia. Just walk there feels very bad energy. But there are nice areas, though expensive. The system in Greece is indeed quite bad and the infrastructure is lacking in many ways.

Uber is not yet available in Greece. But taxi beat is better and I later on discovered the app only after 2 years of living in Greece. The system in Greece definitely is backwards and needs upgrading. I hope one day this can be improved!
