I’m also using Windows almost 90% on my MacBook Pro, but when it comes to photo editing, I can’t thrust the colors on Windows under bootcamp, since they can’t be calibrated properly, and they are a bit off! That is when I’m switching to Mac to do my photography works! Well, I’m photographer might be a bit picky about colors! What do you think about the colors on Windows under bootcamp? Cheers from Japan!
@kimwa00

Totally agree with you. I usually feel those color issues when I edit my video. I personally think that MacOS is just plain better at those things. I love to run windows on my macbook, but there are some downsides for me when it comes to mobility. As a college student, I usually bring my mac with me all the time, but battery consumption is always a problem. I always have to bring that fat charger with me. Such a shame.

It might sound counter-intuitive at the start but when you think of it, Apple does get the best build quality and aesthetics among other laptop makers. Even though the cooling and affordability are kinda questionable and the touch bar is horrendous in Windows, it still makes one of the best options out there even if you run Windows on it.

Which says a lot about the alternatives. Apple's keyboard//trackpad ribbon cables that fail every two to three years due to tension, delicate screen ribbon cables that quickly wear out, cracking screen chassis due to a design flaw (screw placement), internal power ribbon cable design that's been used for years now that can send 50v to the CPU, the glue that holds the screen assembly together wuthering under system load temperatures leading to frame snapping, dust, the faulty lid position sensors, the infamous keyboard issues, soft cases that dent on hard floors, soldered SSDs and RAM, the anti-repair and anti-consumer OEM practices, OS X's built-in spyware, firmware hardware part paring, the cooling systems designed with heavy thermal throttling in mind because they're largely unchanged from 2015 to keep weight and thickness down because of aesthetics, the one intentional design flaw that plagues all Macbooks from the decade... and they're still better than most everything else but the likes of Framework. But at least you can repair them unlike Macintoshes. You could be doing and spending a lot depending on whether you bought a laptop from the majority of the major companies that manufacture laptops you plan to keep for the long haul. Actually, just buy a low high end Dell, reinforce the hinges, rectify the non-existent quality control issues during assembly and reinstall Windows and be prepared to replace the fan every two years, but Dell might've sorted that now. And it'll still be far cheaper than a Mac. You know, just without all of the wonderfully great thinks you get with a Mac. Yet the Mac's less likely to see fewer potential issues cropping up over a longer period of time I think (unless it's a 2023 13'inch Air).

I'm here 4 years later specifically to find out how Windows 10 or 11 scales, and how it works with Macbook screens. Here's some background to my enquiry: in the old days, if you deviated away from your screen's native resolution on any Windows machine, the resulting text was slightly blurry. And although many people could accept that, I definitely can't. The problem is that I want a new laptop and I've been used to using a relatively low-res 1366x768 screen for years, but they're quite rare now and I really don't want to go higher i.e. up to 1920 (aka Full HD) or 2560 (aka QHD/ 1440p). As this is a work and browsing machine only, the resulting text would be too small for me, and even though I understand that scaling has improved in the Windows operating system in recent years, deviating so far from the technical native resolution is probably going to bug me... unless it's an exact 2:1 scale. By that, I'm referring to the way that Apple laptops have, say, a 2880 screen, but display the desktop at half that resolution, meaning everything is much bigger than it would be on a 2880 res Windows machine, presumably by using two pixels to one (i.e. retina display). So, I want to know if the latest Windows o/s can scale down to exactly match the current 2880 or 3072 res Apple laptop screens, and if so, is it pin sharp and have the icon-scaling issues from a few years back been solved now? Alternatively (and it has been impossible to find anything at all about this), will the latest WQXGA 2880x1800 laptop screens such as those fitted to Samsung's Windows laptops scale in the same way/ perfectly if I just forget MacBooks altogether?

I am a relatively new Mac user, I have been a Windows Admin (IT field) for the past 15 years and recently took a position as a Mac Admin about 6 months ago. Just about all of the ease of life "frustrations" you mentioned like the two finger click and keybindings you wanted to change to make things to your liking are the things that are driving me nuts the most with MacOS lol. We all seem to like our interfaces that we are used to :). I really wish command shortcuts were not bound to the application, like if I want to hit command K to map a SMB I dont want to have to click in to finder or in the desktop first. On Windows you can hit Win+R no matter your application open, and control+key is more so your shortcuts that are bound within a specific application where for the Mac Command kinda does everything unless its Unix based like terminal where Control still does a lot. I personally find the ergonomics of Ctrl+key (like Ctrl+C for example) to feel better with reach ability, I feel Command+C (for instance) is so close together its hard for me to do it comfortably. This is probably due to that interface I am use to thing. For the cursor speed, it feels like the cursor on MacOS is extremely slow when compared to windows and I noticed Windows has a much higher Mouse DPI range the MacOS so that is probably where you noticed the uncomfortable sensitivity, I always have to crank the Mouse cursor speed on MacOS for my liking. It seems we are on opposite sides on this which I find interesting, I am using Mac with as many of the Windows "defaults" I can get and you are on Windows with as Many of the Mac "Defaults" you can get but I think we can both agree the hardware is great and that trackpad does not have any competition on the market by anyone. Any who great video and it was exactly what I was looking for.

So, what do you think about the recently introduced M1 macbooks?
@ajfromca
@ajfromca 3 жыл бұрын
@@alex.maxwell It depends. If you are like the majority of Mac users that get them as a status symbol, facebook browser, or the apple echo system they are fine. If you are a power user it’s probably best to wait unless your research shows your specific use case has been migrated to or works well on Apple Silicon. Lacking dual minor support, officially at least, is a massive downside. Keep in mind the majority of applications are still x86 and are virtualized on Apple Silicon which is ARM, most virtualize very well but not all and some virtualize very poorly. At this point in time it all really boils down to what you need and mac for and what you do it with, me no I will not switch to Apple Silicon at this time as what I do does they dont fit well for. M1 is an amazing product to be sure, but it is not a finished or final product. I myself dont fancy partaking in a pay to join public beta as apple figures out this Apple Silicon thing. I generally advise others of the same thing. It’s best to wait for Apple to refine the product, then get onboard.
@alex.maxwell
@alex.maxwell 3 жыл бұрын
@@ajfromca Thanks for sharing this! I find it very sad that new Apple's products force its users to do "research of specific use case". It means that the ecosystem is becoming a more closed "walled garden" even for PRO users. And nobody knows where this path will lead. Nowadays my use case is not compatible with ARM macs. And I'm not alone. Time will show.

I would love a look inside the MacBook Pro 16" 64gb, using virtual box for Windows 10. I currently have a 2015 pro Retina 2.2 GHz Quad-Core i7 16GB. I use IOS mostly for updating calendars and pictures but I use Windows 10 on a daily also for work. I love the way Virtual Box runs Windows 10 and continually updates any firmware/drivers without me needing to do this manually. For those that use bootcamp and do not like the updating and running only on OS at a time, I highly recommend Virtual Box. Over time I have used up more memory with the amount of applications I need to run on both windows OS and IOS. I split the memory in half 8gb each which for 8gb it runs great!

There are quite a lot of niggles that I have found over 3 years of using Bootcamp on my Mac. Most of these are due to Apple's refusal to improve drivers for Windows. * Bluetooth is very unreliable. Wifi keeps interfering with BT signals. * Chrome KZbin playback is very CPU intensive and heats up the laptop far faster than a windows machine. * Dual monitor setup is iffy. You have to downgrade Intel drivers for it to work correctly. * VM virtualisation also not seamless as that in MacOS. For all other purposes, it is fantastic to use. Way better trackpad experience than any other Windows Machine I have used. If you are a power user, I would recommend you to get a dedicated Windows machine, if you find any of the above use cases critical to you. Everything else, you should use a Macbook. It is completely VFM. I am currently using a four year old MBPro. It will be my daily workhorse for at least 3 more years.

There is a much better way of doing this. 1. Open bootcamp assistant 2. From the menu bar, click on bootcamp assistant --> Action. Click on download windows support software. You can specify where you want to download it. 3. Save the bootcamp's windows support software on a separate usb or hard drive. 4. You can now install a fresh copy of windows 10 on the mac (erasing the whole disk, putting windows 10 only). 5. Copy the windows support software that we saved on a separate usb, and run the bootcamp installer. It will install all the drivers for you.

Bootcamp has an option in the menu bar to download the Windows drivers. It's easier to just make a Windows 10 USB and then hold the option button and format the SSD in the Windows options. Then run the Bootcamp driver installer.

Please that's exactly what i want to do. I got a 13" MacBook pro in 2014, and its been serving me till now though I've had to change its battery and power charger...so in essence I'm thinking cheaper option for me is to upgrade its hard drive to like 512gb/1TB to install a dual boot settings for windows and MacBook os. My mac specs are: MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel Iris 1536 MB, 121gb hard drive. so what do you think about this?

When you create a partition for boot camp initially, you can view that hard disk (the created partition) on the macOS side of your computer, and access any of the files you have running on the windows side. The files are totally independent of eachother as they exist on two different partitions of the SSD, but you can still view and transfer things from the windows partition disk (accessible in macOS) right to macOS. To view all available hard disks (partitions) on your Mac desktop, simply go to Finder>Preferences>”Show” Hard disks, and you’ll see the ‘BOOTCAMP’ Hard disk appear with all of its windows data, drivers, software, and any given files you have on windows. Hope this helps!

@Jayde P. For me, it was called "mac partition", but honestly you could just delete every partition other than the one that says "Bootcamp/Windows/whatever your windows partition is called". Some people say to back up the mac partition, but that's your choice.

Hi, I've got a MBP 15" early 2013, tried the Boot Camp assistant to install the Windows 10 with an external hard drive 320gb, downloaded 5gb Windows 10 and load up using the BCA, but unable to proceed as it says I don't have enough disk space - I've got 320gb on external and 500gb SSD internal only used maybe 50gb or less. How do I go about this? I only need to use Internet Explorer 11 for a particular Finance software which is not compatible with Any other browser, frustrating... and i bought a HP x2 G2 612 Pro last year and already the battery need replacement and it's extremely slow with multi chrome and Outlook running, character building machine is all I could say. I'm looking to buy either the Mac Air top spec for $1849 and install the Windows 10 to use Explorer as my ultra portable replacement for the HP. Any thoughts?

I've done this myself but on an unsupported Mac, as bootcamp for the early 2011 pros only supports 7 and 8.1. I installed 7 just by booting up on the DVD (I already owned a copy) and installing it like you would on a clean install PC. I had previously downloaded all the bootcamp drivers onto a USB using the option in bootcamp. I then downloaded the media creation tool from MIcrosoft and was able to upgrade to Windows 10 without having to buy a license. Most of the 8.1 drivers worked in Windows 10, and even before the drivers were installed I still could use my keyboard and mouse, but the screen was base resolution until after the graphics and everything else was installed. I did notice the trackpack was very sensitive when two finger scrolling but I don't have the trackpad tab in bootcamp control panel. I may look at downloading some of the tools you mentioned to see if I can fix things like the volume keys not working on my keyboard. Luckily I have a dell blutooth keyboard that is the windows layout so I have all the windows keys and cntrl_alt_del, etc. Even when I'm not using that and using the built in keyboard I can do everything I need to one way or another. Blutooth wasn't working until I tried another bootcamp driver I downloaded. Looks like even with a supported Mac you may have some issues. Glad I can use an OS that will continue to receive security updates beyond 2020 which is why I switched to Windows and didn't bother with dual boot since High Sierra was going to be obsolete in a year anyway so I wouldn't be using it. Of course, I can't get my iMessages and SMS on my Mac anymore but I actually found that that was a little distracting (I know you can turn it off in MacOS).

I have a windows 10 macbook air 13inch and it works wonderfully. My machine boots up more quickly than my MacBook pro actually and it is rigged without having to hold down two buttons to decide whether to use os or win10. Great stuff. I also am able to run two additional monitors that the cursor can drag across. Do you have any suggestions about the best splitter to use? Thank you for your great presentation.

This will be inevitable on your Intel Mac once the Arm transition is complete, unfortunately. All of my Macs are dual-boot; the installation process with Mojave was a cinch compared with previous versions of macOS because all you needed to do was put the contained .iso on the hard drive, tell Boot Camp where it was, and it would do the rest. With older versions, you had to use a flash drive or DVD-R that was formatted JUST SO and fast enough for the installation process to complete. The performance of Winblows, which I despise anyway, was far superior and stable than any comparable Winblows-only machine. Peace.
