Been on it for 4-5 years with no real side effects that I know of At 38 years old, I have retained most of my hair and arguably, it's a little better now than it was 5 years ago While in comparison, i have cousins and friends who have had hair transplants and one thinking of doing it, and none take or want to take finasteride afraid of the side effects. My hair is better than theirs by a long shot. One in particular is 30 years old and is in a bad shape, resorting to various hair styles to try and cover it up. Says no to fin instead is looking into hair transplant, and it plays on his mind and confidence a lot All thanks to the negative internet stories. Not even realising that without fin a hair transplant is more or less worthless you hust buy a couple of years and the recession makes it look even worse (with grated alive hair at the front then a cm or two behind blad...

I already got some hair growth with rosemary oil, vitamin E, castor oil, and black seed oil. I use a clean shampoo without chemicals and add these oils to the shampoo. This has helped; I see many new small hairs growing I do wash my hair 2x a day and let the shampoo for 5 minutes before washing out. I am sure Finasteride would help much more, so let's see where it goes. I have been using Minoxidil for two days now and have already contacted a compounding pharmacy to add Finasteride to my Minoxidil. I will use it in a few months, as I need to A/B test with and without Finasteride.

This will only work on areas where there's miniaturized hair. If there is no hair in an area there cannot be regrowth. In these cases I would guarantee there was existing week hair to act on. They took Finasteride/Minoxidil and got improvement within the subsequent anagen cycle in these follicles.

So, here’s my question. Is it possible that if I take Finasteride, I won’t get side effects? Does getting side effects on Dutasteride necessarily mean I’ll get side effects on Finasteride?

27M, Im a diffused thinner, mostly around the midscalp and crown area. Have been on fin for 1+ year and dut for 1+ year, but Im still losing ground (scalp more visible) and shedding over 100 hairs daily. The weird thing is I started treatment quite early but my hair has still regressed over the span of 3 years. HT wont work as well for me since Im mostly losing hairs in the midscalp and crown, not hairline. I tried oral min 2.5mg for 7 months as well, but stopped as even that did not work for me. What should I do now? Im at a loss... Also to add: I have done a blood test for any vitamin deficiency or thyroid issues, but didnt have those issues. Im not stressed out or anything as well that could trigger a Telogen Effluvium.

Strip surgery is always a resolution to cover ground lost should your occipital donor be intact. The only issue is with diffuse loss you'll be chasing transplants. While we might hear acceptance is key it's not always an option and surgery should be looked at as a potential avenue for quality of life.

Hello, thank you for sharing your experience. I would like to ask about one thing. It turns out that the period of effectiveness of finasteride is limited, and depends on the predisposition of a particular person to alopecia, right? What should be done in this case if finasteride loses its effectiveness. I will be grateful for your answer
@TheHairChemist
@TheHairChemist 5 ай бұрын
Finasteride doesn't lose effectiveness over time as long as the product is manufactured consistently. As hair loss is progressive and mediated primarily by DHT, Finasteride does not inhibit the conversion of testosterone to DHT fully thus we continue to miniaturization but at a slower rate. Those individuals with aggressive hairloss will have increased sensitivity to DHT thus more DHT will bind to the androgen receptors and even though we may reduce serum DHT by 70% on Finasteride there will be greater miniaturization in these individuals. It's ultimately about androgen sensitivity for binding DHT which is genetically predetermined and case dependant. Those with less predisposition respond better to Finasteride therapy over those with greater predisposition.

Women also lose hair. How many 70 year old women do you know with a fantastic full head of hair? Almost none Finasteride just brings hair loss rate down closer to a women's hair loss rate. Or say half way between a man and a women loss rate So on average you'll probably keep your hair 15-25 years longer using the drugs than not using them It's not going to keep your hairline forever. It's just going to slow, sometimes greatly slow, the rate of hair loss And that's the best we can Realistically hope for. No one has the hair of a 20 year old at age 80. Not men not women. Maybe one in a million super genetically blessed but until genetic engineering becomes a thing Finasteride is the best tool we have

The outcome you see here is down to Finasteride + hair transplant surgery. Without my fussiness there would be no video as there would be no hair worth showing.

@@TheHairChemist It's the truth. Think about it, you're blocking the most androgenic hormone and multiple neurosteroids for years and think it will only affect the state of your hair? Don't be naïeve. But you will learn sooner or latee

I will say one thing. I do agree blocking a hormone is not good, and that includes DHT. That is why I'm anti-dutasteride. But what's the alternative reality to not taking Finasteride? That guys bald quicker and become mentally consumed/depressed? It's a case dependant balancing act.

@@TheHairChemist the alternative is getting transplant(s). Most have enough donor hair. I've seen enough people irl who did transplants any many not taking fina or even on minox. All had great results. But yes you will need multiple transplants if you're not on fina, but totally worth it imo.

The thing with transplants is most people who do not take Finasteride will have an expanding demand where the supply won't be met. Finasteride reduces the recipient and increases the donor. There are few people who get away with not taking Finasteride. And if they took Finasteride through their surgeries the results would be better.

When/if finasteride stops working you can always go to dutasteride

You can but I think this drug over steps the line. I've tried it

@@TheHairChemist side effect risks are slightly higher for 0.5mg compared to 1mg fin. It should definitely be the next choice after fin stops working, if it’s too much for some that’s fine, but better try it and risk the marginal potential increase of sides than spend a lot of money on HT.

You are not concerned about inhibiting DHT to such low levels? Even for me, I draw the line here, and I am as obsessive and fastidious as they come. Personally, I choose Finasteride as the beginning and endpoint.

@@TheHairChemist given the side effect profile is seemingly not that much higher compared to fin, it’s 100% worth a shot.

Oh I get it believe me, sounds on paper perfect. But to inhibit DHT to such low levels just doesn't sit right with me.
