Great tips Batavia! I am pulling plants out gradually rather than all at once. My fall plants are growing slowly.. can’t wait to see how you put your plants to bed.😂

Love your garden and your videos!!🥰 To get sweet potatoes to sweeten up, pull them, let them sit and dry a couple of days then try this: put a large tub/container on a grow mat, place SP in single layer add glass or bowl w water, place lid on tub. Humidity sweetens those babies up in about 10-14 days or so Afterwards store in a cool dry place.

You've been busy! I'll be rubbing some errands this weekend and will stop by a few stores. I am expecting them to be filled with Christmas decorations though 😊

Thank you for sharing. I am in zone 7b and first frost is scheduled for November 1st. I checked out Lowes and Home Depot for clearances of plants and purchased two raspberry and a lemon plant for 50% off. I have also been on the look out for gardening items on market place, Walmart, and Amazon that have discounts this time of the year. Gardeners are also stocking up on soil and fertilizers that are on sale. I like to collect extras and store for next season. Do you do anything to your beds in preparation for the winter like put down cardboard or a cover?

Heya Sylvia! The frost hit us on Oct 30th and then a freeze Oct 31st. And then we had a few nights of freezing temps but this week has been beautiful! I ~try~ to cover my beds with shredded leaves. I have used cardboard for a couple of spaces in my bed previously but it was kinda on accident..the next season there were plenty of good worms but also a bunch of rolls pollies (pill bugs) which have been a pain. Thanks for watching and commenting!

I guess it's too late to plant my Brussel sprouts and kale. Well next year then.
@BBettaGarden Жыл бұрын
Heya! In Chicago it is, but in other areas where the weather is milder, there is still time, especially if you already have the plants (versus starting from seed).

Your kale looks amazing! What am I doing wrong? How much sun do you get? I’m about three hours south of you.
@BBettaGarden Жыл бұрын
Heya garden neighbor! Sorry to hear you haven't had good luck with kale. The kale plant that I'm harvesting from probably got 6 or more hours of sun during the height of the season.

When should i harvest turnips mustards
@BBettaGarden Жыл бұрын
Hi- you can harvest mustards and turnips (if you are only harvesting for leaves) at just about any size. Maybe, saucer size to dinner plate size. I hopped this helps!

I’m also in Chicago and new to gardening. Can you provide some tips on what type of compost you use when you put your garden to bed for the season? Also, do you cover your containers during the winter so that they aren’t wet from the snow or winter rain?
@BBettaGarden Жыл бұрын
Heya Chicago garden neighbor! Sure, I use Moo-Nure compost (www.homedepot.com/p/25-lb-Organic-Compost-with-Cow-Manure-BG25-CMM/202255549). I don't normally cover my containers but many of them are a bit water logged in the spring. So I would say, it's not required but if you can do so easily, cover them.

I have cut and cooked my sweet potato leaves. The bed I covered with cardboard until I pull the potatos will another week hurt them?
