Todd saying he was content with letting fans wait 18+ years between titles destroyed any last gopd faith I had in him and BGS. I don't understand how these studios can sit on literal gold mines and not do anything with them. Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Blood born, Titanfall, Killzone, so many more, all sitting on the shelf for years collecting dust while fans are are literally BEGGING for new entries. There's a popular saying in customer service, that the customer is always right, while it's not technically true, the idea is that if you give your customers/fans what they want, they'll be a lot more willing to give you money. It really shows you how out of touch these studios are.

It’s bugs are incredibly frustrating, but i started playing it on Xbox after feeling disappointed with 3 (to the point I didn’t want to finish it) and it’s become one of my best gaming experiences. The game freezes, crashes, and people warp into black mountain, but the game is a great deal of fun, and even with all its flaws of which there are many, it stands head and shoulders above fo3, Skyrim, and really most other rpgs I’ve played in the last 5 years

I’ve been saying this for years, even prior to Microsoft’s acquisition of Zenimax (and thereby Bethesda). Have 2 dedicated teams; one for Fallout and one for Elder Scrolls. All under the same company so developers can move between the teams if they choose (for example; make a fallout game then move over to make an elder scrolls game if the developer wants to do something different) or if they just prefer one series, they can stick with it. If they want to do a brand new IP (such as Starfield), work out which studio to handle it from there.

Weird as it is, think part of the 'creative process' that's missing from well financed games is that dark depressing desperation that comes from being on a shoe-string budget and a fast looming deadline.

I just want to say that as someone who played New Vegas for the first time in 2020 without mods on Xbox, it really isn't that bad. A lot of the time, people like you who played it when it came out or played a while ago and have lots of nostalgia for it tend to talk about it like it's super hard to get into now or is insanely buggy, but it really isn't. Not to say it can't be, but especially on consoles where it isn't very buggy, Fallout: New Vegas is actually not super hard to get into. This was also the case for my brother and friend, who had a similar experience. I tend to realize this view gets pushed onto people who haven't played the game, and it has just spread. Not to say it's perfect and that there aren't issues with starting it, especially on PC, but it really isn't that bad. and also a lot of the problems you face get exponentially better after even like 2 or 3 hours of playing which I know isn't nothing but still not that much

I’ve seen something recently that apparently Larian Studios have expressed interest in making a fallout game. If that’s the case if it has at least the same care and love that Baldurs Gate 3 received it would be at least a 9-9.5 /10 . Microsoft needs to override Todd and make this happen. Microsoft could also pull some staff from other studios to give them more manpower to get it out as soon as possible instead of 10 years away. And then let them do Fallout New Vegas style dlc also to keep it alive and going full throttle for a couple extra years.

A Larian Fallout would be amazing. They’d really be perfect for it, and I can see them abandoning fully turn-based for it. I could see them doing like a very extended VATS system for combat, where instead of just focusing on the enemy, it incorporates elements of the environment to pull off the kind of tricks you can in BG3, but from a 1st or normal 3rd person view. Maybe it would pause time to make your move like BG3, or maybe it would be like normal VATS but slowed down a bit more, so that you can take a good look around the environment before pulling the trigger. I can’t even imagine all the craziness Larian would do with a Fallout game, it’d be fun as hell, though, that’s for sure.

If New Vegas got a remake in the current climate it would be an extremely watered down version. There most likely wouldn't be prostitutes in vegas. The Legion would no longer be sexist towards female characters. Half the characters would be gender and race swapped. It's hard to say just how much they would change when updating new vegas for "modern audiences." Ask yourself If you actually want a New Vegas remake because even IF obsidian themselves made it. Most of the devs who originally worked on that project no longer work for Obsidian. It's like that at most game studios who released games from almost a decade and a half ago. Even though it's buggy and barely even plays on my PC i would much rather appreciate what we have then see the bastardization of New Vegas.

Shit just hire the Fallout: London guys to do offshoots and expansions of Fallout and Bethesda games. Those guys *clearly* know exactly what they’re doing, and they added something to the franchise that makes the whole Fallout universe way bigger in showing what happened to London (I really think that game should be canon). Plus, they wrote a better story than Bethesda really ever has, at least for Fallout (I’m not even considering Starfield on my mental list, that game doesn’t really even have a story, it’s such a joke). They used BGS’ own tools *better* than BGS does, ffs, and all on basically *no budget*. Imagine what they could do for Bethesda *with* a proper budget. I dunno if they could pull a “New Vegas in 18 months”-type of scenario, but I’m not sure anyone is expecting that in this day and age. I’d hate to see those guys get rolled into BGS and then just have all their great work left behind, though, so if they can work out a deal to essentially stay independent contractors that are working for BGS or Microsoft, that would be the best bet. I just think BGS would be stupid not to try and properly utilize that team after seeing how amazing Fallout: London turned out, cause really, it’s infinitely more interesting than any of BGS’s Fallout stuff. I bet that team could make an incredible New Vegas follow up. I’d honestly be just as happy if they made Fallout: London an *official* release, though, and they could literally have that out by the end of year. Imagine all the people on console who don’t even know there’s a Fallout: London that just released, and then imagine their excitement when they find it’s coming to console very soon and it’s the best FO game since New Vegas. That would be wild, but it makes good business sense. Wayyy better business sense than just putting it up on the Creation Club or whatever. Make it an official release, use the lore they’ve already come up with to show a little of what happened across the Pacific, I mean COME ON. It should be SO. SIMPLE.

My strategy would be to yes, have another studio create a Fallout spinoff in the same vein as F:NV in the interim but at the same time, top down iso games have really been popular and quite successful for the past five years and would require probably less work than a full 1st/3rd person open world Fallout experience and there are smaller studios under the corporate umbrella that could handle an iso Fallout in the vein of Fallout 1/2.

Something to take into account with a New Vegas remake or Fallout 3 remake is the music rights. Those can get pricey. They'd have to draw up new contracts, likely set up royalties/residuals etc. And what if someone doesn't want their song in the game? Dion's Wanderer song was used in the marketing for Fallout 4 and he threw a fit because he didn't like how his song was used.

The smart thing to do would be New Vegas 2, released to coincide with season two of the tv show, since that's going to New Vegas, maybe even a tie in, AND new console release. But is Xbox capable of that kind of coordination and forsight? Are the five million or whatever a year execs capable of that?

Fallout 3 and New Vegas desperately need a remake they are amazing games stuck on a crap engine they are so buggy. My first playthroughs of both had game breaking bugs. In New Vegas couldn’t enter Camp McCarran without the game crashing, and in Fallout 3 I had to use console commands to delete a Gate that wouldn’t open so I could beat the game!

Can you imagine Larian making a cRPG Fallout like the originals? The Van Buren that never was. How can Bethesda and Microsoft not be taking advantage of the fact that they can be developing both styles of Fallout? They could probably even get a hybrid style working and it would be revolutionary.

I have a few thoughts about this. First off, nothing we've seen from Microsoft suggests they have enough of a brain trust left to recognize the market for what is or isn't a good game. The Xbox has essentially failed in the market in their own words, and many if their major IPs like Halo and Gears have so badly burned their communities that their customers regard new announcements with suspicion at how their going to get ripped off in the cash shops. Next, is turnover. People like Chris Avellone and Josh Sawyer no longer work at Obsidian. New Vegas succeeded largely because it was a case of getting the band back together for one last good time. It would be a hell of a lot of work to hunt those people down again and get them to agree to work on a new game. And if you don't, you're going to get the monkey's paw version of it, like Warcraft Reforged. Same thing with any attempt to remake the original, there's no faith that the talent is there. Finally, there's the issue of even having another generation of consoles. Xbox is dead, and their selling their IPs to other teams, going all in on game pass. It's incredibly unlikely that they're going to go the route of console exclusives like a New Vegas 2... And even if they did, it would be a disaster. Console limitations and jank hardware are what gutted many of the dreams for New Vegas originally. Putting a sequel or remake on a console again is just going to create the same problems. Consoles will always be too weak, and too far behind on the tech to do truly expansive RPGs justice.

My theory on it is there's no way that they can make a Fallout New Vegas 2. I think a majority of people don't want that. They would much rather have a Fallout New Vegas remaster just enough to where you could play vanilla and it doesn't crash and with additional content that it feels fresh or some people want a remake where it is on a completely new engine and they could have the opportunity to add more stuff to the game that they had to cut due to time constraints, I feel like Xbox really wants to do it and some people who work in Bethesda and obsidian want to but I also feel like it's a higher up issue like they don't want to do it cuz they don't see the the value in it. But then again, we live in a time where major game companies care more about how much money you spend than actually making fans happy. Unfortunately, I think that thought process Died somewhere mid-2010s

Good point about the Obsidian team not being the same one that made FNV. Imagine a Larian (fresh off bg3 team) made fallout entry, or one from the CDPR post phantom liberty team. If BGS is not available, daddy xbox/ms needs to get another talented dev team involved with the Fallout IP. Paying so much to acquire the studio and IPs but not really doing anything with it is dumb. Also please please please do not use BGS's game engine.

Well, Todd Howard said, in an interview with Matty, that he didn't see much reason why he would direct a manpower to make a remake of Fallout 1 or 2 for example (Crpg). So, I think, maybe they don't want to waste time and effort on these types of remakes or remasters, and they see Fallout 76 as an option to keep updating for fans of the world of Fallout, until they make the leap to Fallout 5. I think they'd rather play it safe and make $ on top of these types of games.

To expand on a point Luke made, if Bethesda are convinced they're the only team capable of doing Fallout justice, maybe the reason they haven't been overruled as yet is because they managed to convince Zenimax and now Xbox that that is the case. Now, the whole industry is seeing that that isn't true.

I always found it interesting that people are so firm that Xbox would do anything about Bethesda's stubborn hoarding of IPs. Nothing stopped Halo from being made by other studios outside 343. Yet despite numerous blunders, 343 still holds the rights to the IP. I would love to see fallout be free if both Bethesdas development and their cursed 10 year production cycle, but if Microsoft didn't care about Halo getting dragged, I doubt they'll do anything here.

Honestly Obsidians engine or whatever gave us a really smooth Fallout-like game with Outer Worlds. I just didnt like the dialogue or setting or story of Outer Worlds. I think Obsidian should do the remake (maybe with support from one of the MANY studios Xbox owns). Definitely should be a remake of the original game with REALLY updated graphics, maybe expanded story-lines, no soft-modern BS keep it grim with its dark humour. I think it would be good for Obsidian to have to remake something that has teeth too, their recent games are really soft. Go back to the roots ya know? I also think the guys behind Wasteland should do a remake of Fallout 1 and 2, call it like... Fallout: Legends and have remasters of both story-lines updated to modern day etc. There is NO REASON Fallout should be on ice for decades, that's insane. Then Bethesda can make Fallout 5 when they're ready. But these games would keep the franchise alive, strong, and chugging onwards.

Finally someone brings up the fact that that game was almost 15 years ago. Neither company is the same, Bethesda hasn't been the same in a long time. They seem to be more milking off prior success when they want money. Like re-releasing Skyrim every generation.. Why wouldn't you just make a new one it's been over 15 years.. Same with Fallout 3 they milk thise franchises they haven't actually made a game that's been a hit like thise two. They release buggy messy games that look unfinished and dated.. That goes back on Todd Howard he wasted a lot of money and resources on Starfield and it's just awful. As far as Todd Howard sitting on New Vegas? No. I think he wishes that game just didn't even exist..

I don't think the present day Obsidian is going to be able deliver the new 'New Vegas' that we are all nostalgia with. The Outer Worlds doesn't give any similar vibes to New Vegas and doesn't resonate with me at all. If they are really going to do New Vegas 2, they need to do an audition for it to find the studio that would potentially give the best story possible.
