I traveled to the farm today, to finish planting our crops. With the help of my friends and family, I will be working around tractors, other large equipment, making on the fly repairs, working a 24 hour shift, and realizing we have spent $927,900 on this year's farming season, and made $0.

I’m 77 and when I was a kid living in NY my father would send me to North Dakota to his sisters farm every summer. I remember sitting on an old Minneapolis Moline tractor plowing fields 10 hours a day at 15 years old. My aunt and cousin ran this over 2000 acre farm ,wheat,oats,flax by themselves with a couple of hired hands plus livestock. I am totally blown away by the complexity of your operation . People have no idea what it takes to be a farmer today, should be required viewing in all schools . I am in total admiration of your entire family.

You must have had a wonderful youth. Every boy should live on a farm. The adventures never cease, tractors, trucks, all sorts of machinery, seeing the earth produce plants that give food.. Streams to fall into, ponds to go swimming in, animals to take care of. Toads, frongs, snakes and hay-fields filled with fireflies.

@@sshumkaer That was before the time when people left home and left the farm to be gobbled up by developers - forever destroying fertile fields and forever blighting the land with cheap, ugly houses and sprawling ugly industrial buildings. Look at what happened to Andover, Massachusetts when the techies started moving in.

Never apologize about filming. Farming is your bread and butter; it comes first. I am always amazed by how much you do film and how calm and patient everyone is during the process. Cole it not the only real story. SASDUTCHKID, Millenial Farmer, Pennsylvania Dairy Farmer, Berning Farms, 10th Generation farmer all give the same insight into life on Dairy and agricultural farms. Cole is a charismatic individual, part of a close knit family who have developed a small farm into a major enterprise. He went out to get an education to help him manage the farm and bring prosperity rather than just scraping by. He's an intelligent young man. His goal, which he is certainly accomplishing, is to educate the general population of City Folk, about what it is like to produce food, farm, dealing with the cost of production and the brutality of nature. He is only on of many farmers on the plains that face the same problems. Other farmers have not taken the time or made the effort to follow in his path. By the way _WE NEED PBS. We can well do without the HISTORY CHANNEL that turned an educational channel into rigged situations. There isn't one of those stupid programs that isn't carefully scripted including the gold mining series, ruined by the policies of the stupid woman who changed the format of that formerly educational outlet.

Might want to invest in a third seed tender so you have two in the field and have one getting loaded up and rotate the tenders.

Quick tip: if you don't want the truck to roll on you when you're hooking up the trailer, then set your emergency brake before you take your foot off the brake pedal. 😎👍🏼

Cole, y’all could save so much time and money by having a grease gun and a basic set of tools in every truck or tractor instead of having to go get one at a shop or borrow one from someone else. Also having a farm truck equipped with a larger toolbox and supplies such as hydraulic fluid and engine oil, water maybe an air compressor that Roman could drive around to help service the equipment instead of having to constantly go to a shop and get the tools and supplies every time something happens. All that time looking for tools or tracking down a grease gun is expensive when you add up all that time at the end of the year.

This is a great and constructive comment. I see many areas where time and money could be saved. The daily lunch runs are a waste. Someone, like a wife, could make these trips or even better do the cooking. Cooking or preparing sandwiches at home could save the farm operation a lot of money.

@@bamaman6297DC's wife MC work's away from home. Cole's wife is at home with 2 baby's under 2 years old. They mostly eat like this during planting season. Right now Cole and his wife Heinava are living with his parents while their house is being remodeled. But they work just as hard after planting season because they start working on all their equipment for harvesting. But they can go in and eat leftovers or make sandwiches in the shop. They are constantly going trying to stay ahead of any problems with their equipment that could come up.😊

Hey Cole, would it be possible to add actual real dates at the end of, or start of the day when you film. I'm glad you see the beauty of Iowa, especially the rural areas. A lot of people look around and are astounding by "the nothingness" of the view, wondering what we find so beautiful. That is the beauty! You can tell what season it is by looking at the farm fields. We have 4 very distinct seasons in Iowa. Though unseasonably warm, the nights have been cool. "That ain't going nowhere" means it isn't going to move around on the trailer ie: the load isn't going to shift. the in the bed / on the trailer is dropped / implied. It's the farmers' (and truckers') theory of special relativity.

Hi from oz Cole. Congratulations on getting so far ahead with your operations. It is so satisfying when you hit the nail on the head. Those 24 hour shifts are what got you there. The biggest shift ive done was 51 hours. Only because of bad weather coming in and had to get the work done.

@@greghamann2099You underestimate what it takes to be good at gopher in this operation. It requires both following directives and independent action on all levels. It requires problem solving and attention to detail. It involves anticipation and follow through. And Roman has a wide range of skills and is a fast study. We have no idea what he makes, nor is it our business. He's there, so it must be beneficial for him. As to gopher being a job anyone can do... I've known many people who couldn't manage in a much less complicated situation.

It astounds me that all 5 of you, doing different things, knowing how every piece of each machine work, and how to fix it. Then dealing with the computers with the GPS , seed type, and how to change or adjust those. Wow! The 5 of you make a great team, and it's still a family farm. Kudos to Cooper and Zach for not only being filmed, but speaking on camera! I always notice you both running when Cole and Roman are filming. We've had more rain this month than we've had all last year. It is all soaking in so far. The other night I did notice some run off from the field next to my home. But, we need the moisture so badly in South Central Iowa. We've had rain during the night, sunshine during the day. But, we've also had 2 very strong EF3 tornadoes. No farm damage yet. One was late afternoon, the other was about midnight, one week apart. I noticed you got heavy rain instead of tornadoes. I was thinking of you all, hoping you weren't in the fields. 😊
