Hadley, I love your enthusiasm. Thanks for sharing with us. I used to go to the books store and look at The Art Book a lot. It helped me to learn a lot about art history.

Dear Hadley I bought a second hand copy of The Principles of Uncertainty after watching your review of it. Very very very weirdly, this morning, TED delivered to my email box it's weekly recommendations which included a talk by Maira Kalman which I watched drinking my morning coffee. And then when I opened the front door, her book was on my doorstep. And until I watched your art book recommendations, I'd never heard of her! And I've been sitting here reading it and admiring it and wanted to say thank you for putting it out there! I love it ❤️. Thanks again. Ruth

Hi Ruth! What a funny coincidence! That sounds like the perfect morning. I'm really happy to hear that you've been enjoying Maira Kalman's work so much. I'll have to check out her TED talk. Another one of her books you might enjoy is called Women Holding Things, and I love it. Best, Hadley

I have a feeling that Swedish books are something that you're not seeing a lot of, so I have two tips: for book covers, there's a Swedish graphic artist called Lotta Kühlhorn, she's made tons of book covers, most of the time they are colourful and retro, and I really like them. A Swedish author and artist I love is Johan Egerkrans, he's written and illustrated a few books about Norse gods and mythology, they are gorgeous and they are translated into English. But what I actually was going to recommend, is his books about dinosaurs - they are children's books, and the illustrations are amazing! Oh, another tip as well - the books about Mademoiselle Oiseau by Andrea de la Barre de Nanteuil, I don't know if all are translated to English, but I saw at least two. The stories are beautiful, but the illustrations by Lovisa Burfitt makes them magical!

I really appreciate your recommendations! Thank you!! Lotta Kühlhorn’s work is super fun, and I always love to find new book cover designers. I really enjoy her cover of Zadie Smith’s Swing Time. I haven’t heard of Johan Egerkrans before, and I was not expecting to see such fantastical drawings after Kühlhorn’s retro and pattern-y designs. Super cool! I love the variety of your taste. Egerkrans creates such an immersive universe. And I love the way he draws those dinosaurs! Then your recommendation of Mademoiselle Oiseau surprised me again with its fashion illustrations! I really love all the variety you shared with me. Thank you!

thank you so much! who’re some of your fav artists?
@rowleyzero7 ай бұрын
@hadleyqueen no problem! When it comes to fine artists/ illustrators I like Durer, Gustave Dore,William Rimmer, Heinrich Kley, and Frank Frazetta those are a few of my favorite. I enjoy comic book artists as well like Katsuhiro Otomo, Richard Corben, and many more. I like all different types of art not much of a fan of “modern” art though it’s a bit… crap most of it at least lol. Do you have any favorites? Ones that really stand out to you? Besides those you mentioned in this video. I’m pretty much into anything art because my goodness is it a difficult skill to learn. I’ve been doing it for 15 years or so and still struggle with it from time to time.

Great video! I haven't heard of most of these books. I want to sub to that magazine for my daughter and myself! I was so excited to hear you mention Vromans in this video. I grew up with that being my main book store. Vromans and the Pasadena Public Library main branch have a special place in my heart. I'm looking forward to your map video! Have you heard of Lynda Barry? Her book What It Is is my favorite art book. Collage and thought provoking text! It changed my life and perspective on art and writing. You might enjoy it. ❤
