I don't have "favorite" art supplies for 2023. I retired in 2023 and feel like I'm at the beginning of my art journey. I spent a lot of time trying stuff. Pre retirement I basically used watercolor and markers but this year I tried colored pencils and I had a lot of fun trying water-soluble crayons - those might be my favorite new thing I tried because they are like magic with you see them change under water. Have a good year.

It's really good to experiment with different materials when you're starting out. You don't know what you like until you try it :D

You are one of my favorite KZbin artists of 2023! I really feel joy when I see your work. Even this page you made showing your favorite supplies is fun.

I love the sketchbook page you made demonstrating the materials. You also inspired me to buy the Art Philosophy water soluble oil pastels...

I do watercolor and drawing with pencil and fine liners. My favorites are Etchr Watercolor Sketchbook, Micron Pen #8, Canson Pen and Ink Sketchbook, and Daniel Smith paints.

I never really think about Daniel Smith watercolours as being my favourites but they are great paints.

I don’t know about favorite, but Etchr makes a great beginner set of artist-level watercolors. The Inktense pencils are great, you can use them with colorless alcohol blender pens if a waterbrush doesn’t work for you. CretaColor does a “Mega” line of large pencils and watercolor pencils that are good quality and easy for bad hands to use. Stabilo does the “3 in 1”, which is a jumbo sized water-soluble oil pastel in a wood casing. Meant for children and only comes in fifteen colors, but it’s good quality and a smart spread of colors. Because of the wooden casing, pencil style, they’re much neater than regular oil pastels if that’s a thing that bothers you. For water-based markers (not meant for watercolor-type work, just nice water-based markers), Ohuhu makes a double-pointed type, with a fine tip on one end, and a brush tip on the other. (Yes, they make alcohol markers, but I’m talking about their water-based line.) Enjoy the new year, of new art!

You mean the Woody 3-in-1 crayons? I really love using them but always forget about them. I should get them down off my art shelf so I remember. And I didn't know Ohuhu make water based markers. I've never looked at them because alcohol based markers aren't my thing.

@@sketchingtheworldwithkat Yes, the Woody 3 in 1. I forget mine, too. And yes, Ohuhu makes water-based markers. With color numbers so you can tell them apart, and everything.

Hey fella Aussie here just thought you might like to know that the luminance pencils are actually cheaper at the Art Shop in Bayswater Victoria, then they are in either the Australian or US Jacksons store. It’s the cheapest that I’ve been able to find except when they’re on sale in the US that is the only time they beat the Australian store

Thanks. I've used the Art Shop a few times and they are great :D

@@sketchingtheworldwithkat they are a fantastic store. They’re actually a family owned business and the women that they employ their absolutely beautiful people. Not that they don’t employ men. I have come across a couple and they’re very awesome to but they’re not normally behind the counter there normally doing deliveries and packages and a lot of the heavy stuff. It’s wonderful to be able to support a home grown business in this financial climate and actually come out on top yourself. It’s quite rare as you know buying art. Supplies is normally cheaper overseas than it is to buy locally so it’s a great change.

A bit late to comment, and didn't go trough all the comments, but if you keep your finliners nib upwards, they will dry. Turn them around, maybe dip the dried nibs in water if water based and try again after couple of days. Great channel, new sub

ok, I had to give this a thumbs down and I wanted to like it, but you showed a really cool pencil with multi colors, but then you didn't even say what it was.. goodness... I was really interested in this pencil, but all you did was scribble, you didn't even say what it was, not helpful
@sketchingtheworldwithkat Жыл бұрын
Sorry about that. TBH I've sharpened that poor little pencil down so much it no longer has the brand info on it! But I just did a search and it's Cretacolour brand, mega quattro. It's a water soluble pencil. I also have one by Koh-i-noor that has more colours and isn't water soluble.

LOL are you serious? Have you ever heard of Google try looking up? Multi coloured pencil or rainbow pencil and you’ll get 1 billion answers. Do you know how many orders show us things and don’t tell us where it’s from all you had to do was nicely ask in the comments.
