As a Lie-Nielsen employee, it's always great to see talented people who genuinely enjoy our tools and put them to good use! As a musician getting into guitar building, I really appreciate all of your videos! Thank you!

Hi - I've been making guitars for 45 years and have had a Stanley 60 1/2 block plane for over 50 years which has served me very well planning every sort of exotic hardwood imaginable. The beauty of the 60 1/2 is the adjustable throat which means you can get great results in the curliest of grains. For shaping bracewood I have always used a Kunz No 100 squirrel tail plane which is made in cast iron with a very tight mouth and is a joy to use being about 55mm in body length and can be worked even inside an acoustic body with relative ease. I agree Lie Neilsen tools are great but rather overpriced. The other ones worth checking out are the Quangsheng Luban versions. Easily as good quality at half the price. Keep on luthiering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello! I am planning on buying the Lie-Nielson no 102. I wonder if the sides are square to the bottom so that I can also use it on a shooting board to help me when I match the sound board and bottom plates before gluing? I am new to luthery so I am aiming on buying few but good tools to start with.

No, for a shooting board you need a plane with planar sides. Also this one is too tiny. I suggest you a medium sized low angle plane.
